Abstract:
En las tradiciones antiguas bíblica, grecorromana y egipcia, los pares de hermanos varones más conocidos son enemigos. ¿Qué pasa con las hermanas? Este artículo da protagonismo a la figura de la hermana mítica y destaca cómo el carácter polisémico y dinámico de la sororidad genera significados diversos que van desde la rivalidad hasta la alianza. Desde este punto de partida, propongo dirigir la mirada hacia las reescrituras de los mitos de sororidad en la Hispanoamérica del siglo XX. Investigo sobre las nuevas formas que la dinámica rivalidad/alianza toma en las reescrituras y reflexiono sobre los nuevos significados que dicha dinámica adquiere en contextos sociopolíticos hispanoamericanos del siglo XX. Un estudio de caso de Cuba sirve como ejemplo de la resignificación de la figura de la hermana mítica en el campo del género. Leo la novela Las hermanas Agüero (1997), de la escritora cubanoamericana Cristina García, en diálogo con el mito griego sobre los hermanos Helios (el Sol), Selene (la Luna) y Eos (el Alba). La novela concede el papel de Helios a una mujer que se caracteriza por la transgresión de las normas de la femineidad tradicionales. Al poner énfasis en la transformación de la rivalidad entre hermanas opuestas en una alianza basada en la hibridez, la novela pone en entredicho un sistema que encasilla a la mujer en un sistema dual de modelos opuestos y muestra un posible camino hacia una percepción más matizada y ambivalente de la femineidad. La novela revisa, así, el antiguo concepto de la hermana mítica para dotarlo de un nuevo significado relacionado con las construcciones sociales y las normas de la femineidad en la sociedad cubana y cubanoamericana del siglo XX.

RESUMEN: El artículo ofrece una propuesta para la definición genérica de la novela corta (it. novella) de acuerdo con tres rasgos básicos que, al menos en sus orígenes renacentistas, combinan el predominio de la peripecia, el propósito del entretenimiento y la adecuación al marco (it. cornice) donde se interpola. De acuerdo con la anterior hipótesis, se analizan varias novelas interpoladas como la de las hermanas moriscas en los Coloquios de Palatino y Pinciano, El Abencerraje y la novela del buldero interpolada en el Lazarillo, entre otras compuestas desde mediados del siglo XVI. ABSTRACT: This article offers a proposal for the generic definition of the novella according to three basic features that, at least in its Renaissance origins, combine the predominance of the adventure, the purpose of entertainment and the adaptation to the framework where it is interpolated. According to the previous hypothesis, several interpolated novels are analyzed, such as that of the Moorish sisters in the Coloquios de Palatino y Pinciano, El Abencerraje and the novel of the buldero interpolated in the Lazarillo, among other composed since the mid-sixteenth century.

Abstract:
Las obras de Goethe están pobladas por numerosísimas mujeres. En este artículo presto atención a algunas de las que aparecen en el Wilhelm Meister a lo largo de sus andanzas con el objetivo de situar la subversión que encarnan en la narrativa de Goethe. Argumentaré que estas figuras femeninas actúan como contrapunto a lo que se expone en el marco narrativo. El texto de Goethe está compuesto por subtextos y unidades diversas, y está repleto de una multiplicidad de voces y perspectivas. Al concentrarme precisamente en las relaciones que entablan entre sí los textos y las voces mostraré que los personajes femeninos son esenciales a la compleja configuración del sistema de oposiciones y la multiplicidad de niveles de la novela. Concluyo con unas reflexiones sobre la proyección utópica de las mujeres.

Abstract:
Este artículo se centra en el análisis de la novela de Anne Brönte The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (1848) considerando el fin didáctico propuesto por la autora y tomando como referencia uno de los principales modelos literarios del siglo XIX: el künstlerroman o novela del artista. Se propone aquí una puesta en valor de la menos reconocida de las hermanas Brönte, siguiendo la línea argumentativa de relevantes estudios sobre el tema, como Hirsh y Langland (1983), Losano (2003) o Ellis (2017). Si bien la novela de desarrollo tradicional es esencialmente masculina, en el que el artista se recluye en su “torre de marfil”, este no es el caso en esta obra, en la que la heroína artista decimonónica ha de debatirse entre su rol femenino y su pasión artística. Es más, Anne Brönte articula la lucha interna de la protagonista como modelo sutilmente transgresor de la encorsetada sociedad decimonónica. Para profundizar en el modelo de conducta transgresor ejemplificado en la figura de Helen, la protagonista de la obra, se realizará en primer lugar una breve contextualización de los géneros narrativos en los que se enmarca: el bildungsroman y el künstlerroman. A continuación, se analizarán tanto la estructura de la obra como los pasajes más determinantes que inciden en la representación de la mujer como artista para, finalmente, validar la tesis inicial.

La premisa principal de este texto es que el discurso social común, expresado en las artes y las humanidades, ha sido crucial para el proceso de construcción de lenguajes y cosmologías tecnocientíficas. Se examinaron los fundamentos y las correlaciones de este argumento tomando como referencia disciplinas científicas establecidas de manera reciente, como la epidemiología, con la ayuda de dos obras de arte: la novela Todos los nombres, escrita por Saramago, y la trilogía cinematográfica Matrix, escrita y dirigida por las hermanas Wachowski. Ambas alegorías son ilustrativas del mundo virtual posibilitado por la tecnociencia. La propuesta consiste, entonces, en establecer un paralelo entre los primeros observatorios sociales que encapsularon poblaciones enteras para su observación sistemática (lo que permitió el perfeccionamiento de la metodología epidemiológica) y el “sueño epidemiológico”, casi cumplido con la introducción del procesamiento electrónico de información y potenciado ahora por el avance de estrategias de modelado y simulación y por la organización de megabases de datos de salud, enfermedad, vida y muerte.

Este artículo explora cómo uno de los autores del llamado New Latino Boom, Luis Hernán Castañeda (Lima, 1982), ha construido en Mi madre soñaba en francés (2018) una novela que, gracias a la pesquisa sobre el pasado familiar llevada a cabo por el narrador, responde a las características de lo que Dominique Viart ha denominado relato de filiación. Desde un lugar ambiguo, a caballo entre lo autoficcional y lo novelesco, Mi madre soñaba en francés somete a la figura del padre a un claro proceso de deslegitimación, mientras se proyecta sobre la figura de la madre el doble proceso de restitución al que Viart alude, problematizando y llevando hasta sus límites las posibilidades del relato de filiación. El artículo analiza cómo la investigación del narrador no únicamente tiene repercusiones en el plano personal, sino también en el nacional, al abordar el problema de la violencia sexual ejercida contra las mujeres en Perú o el movimiento #MeToo en los Estados Unidos. Esta doble dimensión (individual y colectiva) también se proyecta sobre el uso de la lengua, el español, y la condición fronteriza de los migrantes en Estados Unidos, pues si bien el texto escenifica una vuelta voluntaria a la lengua materna por parte de los personajes, representa igualmente un gesto político por parte de Hernán Castañeda, en tanto que escritor latino en los Estados Unidos, que coloca en el punto de mira al español como lengua contestataria ante la cultura dominante, con amplias posibilidades para renegociar las relaciones de poder y ampliar las propias fronteras de lo latino.

El dibujante David López (Las Palmas, 1975), conocido internacionalmente por su trabajo en las editoriales DC Comics y Marvel Comics —en las que ha dado vida a personajes como Catwoman, Lobezna o Capitana Marvel—, retoma su faceta primera como autor independiente y da la vuelta a los estándares del cómic de superhéroes destinado al público adolescente con una obra que se sitúa a medio camino entre la comedia y el drama familiar: Black Hand Iron Head cuenta la historia de una superheroína y una supervillana poco convencionales que descubren que son hermanas, y tienen que lidiar con esta situación cuando todavía están construyendo sus propias personalidades. El libro, en un primer momento, se publicó en formato electrónico por entregas en Panel Syndicate (2018), y más tarde en papel bajo los sellos de Panini Comics (Italia, 2019); Astiberri (España, 2019); Urban Comics (Francia, 2019); e Image Comics (Estados Unidos, 2020). En la actualidad, David López está trabajando en la segunda parte de la historia, por lo que aprovechamos este buen momento creativo para realizarle algunas preguntas sobre su nueva entrega, así como acerca de su visión del mundo del cómic en general y del público adolescente en particular.

El libro en cuestión se divide en 6 capítulos en los que, desde la teoría feminista del arte, se realiza un recorrido histórico por los múltiples obstáculos (familiares, sociales, educativos, profesionales, historiográficos, museográficos, entre otros) a los que las mujeres han tenido que enfrentarse para desarrollar su carrera artística y que las han limitado enormemente impidiendo su reconocimiento por derecho propio como parte de la historia del arte.

Abstract:
Fundador del movimiento poético infrarrealista en México, en el plano narrativo, Roberto Bolaño se ocupa constantemente de la representación de la dictadura y postdictadura chilena de los setenta. En el año 1996, Bolaño publica su novela corta Estrella distante, considerada como una de las más logradas según la crítica. Esta novela nace del último capítulo de otra novela del mismo escritor, La literatura nazi en América. Dicho texto está conformado por capítulos que relatan la historia de personajes latinoamericanos que, a través de la literatura y el arte, exponen un discurso fascista que surge y se fortalece a partir de las dictaduras militares que se viven tanto en Chile y Argentina del siglo XX. El último relato de La literatura nazi, ‘Ramírez Hoffman, el infame’, narra la historia de dicho personaje quien anticipará la existencia de Carlos Wieder en Estrella distante. La historia es casi la misma, excepto por su extensión y la variación de alguno de los nombres de los personajes. Es, por ese motivo, que el narrador deja clara la intención de retomar el relato y convertirla en una novela: “Arturo [Belano] deseaba una historia más larga, no espejo ni explosión de otras historias sino espejo y explosión en sí misma” (11). Es por esta razón, que desde el inicio de Estrella distante ya se plantea el tema del doble no solo como la relación entre ambos textos, sino también como el motivo en el que se basa toda la estructura textual. En Estrella distante se reconoce a uno de los personajes más recurrentes de toda la obra de Bolaño, Arturo Belano, -ya unánimemente considerado el álter ego del escritor, su propio doble- quien se encuentra tras las pistas del impenetrable poeta Carlos Wieder. La novela se construye a partir del golpe de Estado del 11 de setiembre de 1973; acontecimiento a partir del cual se revela la representación de ideologías en Chile durante la dictadura de Pinochet y cómo, después de ella, Belano adopta una óptica melancólica, crítica y desencantada que se difunde a través de toda la obra narrativa de Roberto Bolaño

Abstract:
This thesis focuses on the novels of Hermann Burger. It considers the experimental nature of Burger's writings as a form of opposition, or 'Verweigerung', to the restrictive discourses of Swiss nationhood expressed in the notion of 'Enge'. A central tenet of the argument advanced here is that Hermann Burger is both a very self-consciously Swiss author, and, at the same time, very self-consciously experimental; a constant tension between these two aspects of his writing is manifest in all his work. Burger was not a provincial Swiss writer. Rather, he was an eclectic writer, and this thesis will examine the manner in which his work is framed by a broad spectrum of literary and philosophical ideas current in the wider international context of literary debate which serve to challenge the narrowness of intellectual discussion and forms of representation in Switzerland. To extend the discursive possibilities of the individual within the cultural space of the nation, Burger's novels involve a radical play with form and language which blurs the boundaries between the real, the unreal and the surreal, in order to challenge notions of the 'real'. A conflict between normative modes of expression and the desire for self-expression develops which is thematically central in Burger's work. His novels present the reader with a complex set of inter-related issues: national identity; national culture; Art; nature; literature and representational strategies; art and life. The methodology adopted in this thesis reflects the belief that Burger's work is best appreciated as an eclectic mix of ideas. As Burger engages with the multifarious aspects of life and seeks to give them form, so his work is considered in relation to a broad range of theories which, taken together, provide insights into his work.

A pesquisa consiste em aproximações aos Sonâmbulos, de Hermann Broch, e privilegia aspectos históricos e construtivos dessa trilogia composta de Pasenow ou o romantismo, Esch ou a anarquia e Huguenau ou a objetividade. Está dividida em duas partes. Na primeira, predomina a discussão do contexto literário e histórico, do pensamento do autor e de questões teóricas do romance como gênero. Aqui, tomamos a trilogia por um comentário sem igual à crise do romance de seu tempo, as ideias de Broch por uma ética da totalidade, e propomos uma retórica realista e metafísica como recurso-base do texto dos Sonâmbulos. Na segunda parte, prevalecem observações sobre a configuração da narrativa e investimos no jogo das semelhanças e diferenças dos três títulos. O objetivo é organizar um quadro para o entendimento do lugar dos Sonâmbulos e de sua especificidade literária. Impaciência do conhecimento, em Broch, significa poesia apta a se adiantar à ciência, romance capaz de se adiantar à filosofia.
This research is devoted to Herman Brochs trilogy The sleepwalkers. The focus of our interest lies on the historical and constructive aspects of the novels Pasenow the romantic, Esch the anarchist and Huguenau the realist. The study is divided in two parts. The first one contains a discussion on the literary and historical context, on the authors thought and on theoretical questions about the novel as a genre. In our view, the trilogy offers a unique commentary upon the crisis of the novel around 1930. Moreover, we take Brochs ideas as an ethics of totality and we propose a realist and metaphysical rhetoric as a key device of the text of The sleepwalkers. The second part consists of observations on the narrative composition, in which we analyze the dynamics of similarities and differences among the three titles. Our aim is to provide a framework for the understanding of the trilogys literary place and specificity. Impatience of knowledge in Broch means poetry capable of anticipating science, novel being able to anticipate philosophy.

This dissertation takes the many existing, predominantly Jungian psychoanalytic approaches to Hesse as its starting point and then proceeds to an original recasting of some of Hesse's key novels (particularly Demian and Per Steppenwolf though a brief outline for Das Glasperlenspiel is provided in the concluding chapter) in the light of a Lacanian psychoanalysis and philosophy and a generally 'structuralist' understanding. My aim is to uncover how strategies of narrative signification in the complex architecture of Hesse's novels retroactively produce the spark of meaning which Jungians consider evidence of an intrinsic, archetypal essence at the core of the self. The Steppenwolf chapter in particular is also devoted to an investigation of the way in which meaning and mourning as functions constitutive of the subject crystallise in the use of metaphorical and allegorical devices. Lupton's After Oedipus: Shakespeare in Psychoanalysis which outlines a comprehensive paradigm for the interrelation of tropic narrative devices and their psychoanalytic undercurrents is a constant point of reference in this thesis, along with the works of Slavoj Žižek, arguably the most creative and influential contemporary Lacanian critic.

I hold that Melvillean society consists of paradoxical relationships between civilization and barbarianism, evil and good, the corrupt and the natural, the individual and the collective, and the primitive and the advanced. Because these terms are arbitrary and, in the context of the novels, somewhat interchangeable, I explore Melville's thoughts as those emerge in the following groups of novels: Typee, Omoo, and White-Jacket demonstrate the paradox of Melvillean society; Redburn, Moby-Dick, and Mardi illustrate the corrupting effects of capitalism and individualism; and The Confidence-Man, Israel Potter, and Pierre depict a collapsed paradox and the disintegration of Melville's society.

Abstract:
Herman Melville’s final novel The Confidence-Man destabilizes conventional Western models of ethical behavior, particularly Kantian notions of moral agency, by exposing and challenging their basis in rationality and a progressivist model of history. The Confidence-Man shows rationality to be nothing more than one way, among many other possible ways, that human beings attempt to fix the world in their understanding and justify their moral choices. I use these insights from The Confidence-Man to illuminate Melville’s opposition to the missionaries’ work of civilizing and Christianizing the South Seas islanders in his earlier travelogues. In Typee, his first novel, Melville demonstrates that layers of existence—in fact, real human lives—are denied when the story of human relations is framed as a narrative of progress. This thesis concludes by proposing that Melville reworks the idea of failure as a potential strategy against the totalizing narrative of advancing rationalism.

Abstract:
This work states that the comic book Hermanas (Sisters) (2021), by Paulina Ramos González, is the result of a productive consumption that retakes Japanese manga elements: ways of creation, philosophy, and imageries, thus resulting in a hybrid that transposes references and imageries from similarities and conflict. We base our argument on a methodological proposal based on the paradigm of indexica l inferences proposed from the microhistory of Carlo Ginzburg and Giovanni Levi; from which we analyze the details present in the comic’s graphics and narrative, to make interpretative inferences about the context of creation, and the socio-cultural and historical processes present in the author’s visual culture. Our primary sources are the Hermanas graphic novel, and a series of interviews made to the author. Secondary sources are the background resources used in this analysis.

Abstract:
Beginning with a profile of encyclopedic aspirations in Don DeLillo’s novel Underworld, this chapter extends the analysis through Moby-Dick by Herman Melville and The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann. These are among numerous instances of cultural and intellectual audacity characterized as the encyclopedic novel after the publication of Gravity’s Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon. The analysis expands by recounting the history of the encyclopedia as a form emerging from the earlier genre of the anatomy. This legacy, pioneering the cross-referencing system familiar from reference works in general, is now thoroughly integrated into our computational search engines. The novels characterized as encyclopedic, however, turn out to resist the sense of instantaneity and rapidity evident in digital platforms, going so far as to find value in indigence, revealed as the art of non-compliance with compulsory forms of “progress.”

Abstract:
The article considers the problem of representation of gender identity in the novel by H. Hesse Demian: The Story of Emil Sinclair’s Youth (1919). The characteristics of the main female figures are consistently analyzed, and on this basis the conclusions about the evolution of the narrator’s perception of the feminine ideal are drawn. There is a connection between the change of understanding of “femininity” and formation of the narrator’s own moral and ethical views. The protagonist’s rejection of conventional representations and perception of the world through binary oppositions, as well as his assertion of necessity to appeal to individual nature as the basic elements of his worldview, are applied in the novel not in the least for the reflection of gender. The issue of gender identity is placed in the novel on the same level as the ethical issues, thus overcoming both the idea of biological or other deterministic identity and the strict differentiation between the masculine and the feminine. The perception of the category of Jungian archetypes in the novel is also considered. The dynamics of construction and representation by the narrator of his own “I” is analyzed through psychoanalytic concepts. The problem of gender in the novels by H. Hesse has been underresearched by Russian scholars. This article offers a new approach to the writer’s legacy, allowing to read his texts from the relevant methodological perspectives.

Abstract:
First results of the excavation of the medieval castle of Dos Hermanas (Montemayor, Cordoba)In the south of the kingdom of Córdoba, there is the castle so-called Dos Hermanas, located in the municipality of the current town of Montemayor. It has been considered that the construction of the castle of this stately town was the result of the first moments of decline of the fortress of Dos Hermanas, located on the bank of the Carchena stream. Currently, a first excavation campaign has been carried out that brings us closer to the anthropic occupation of the site. At the same time, the archival research gives new information to the history of the site, exceeding the date of 1340, when Don Martín Alonso de Córdoba partially destroyed the Arab fortress of Dos Hermanas to build the castle of Montemayor. The first data extracted from the field work support the written sources, providing us with new data that allow us to make a more complete and novel interpretation. The survival of part of the facilities of the Dos Hermanas castle with an occupation from Roman times to the sixteenth century that shows the total non-depopulation of the place in the fourteenth century, as previously thought. A high degree of conservation of the structures found inside the wall enclosure appears a southern bay with stables with nine mangers. To the west, there is a vain and an angled staircase that allowed access from the parade ground until the round pass over the main door, which is also preserved. The objective of this proposal will be to present these first results of the archaeological intervention centered on the southern wall of the castle. These research works are accompanied by a consolidation project of the main structures, all financed by the Provincial Delegation of Cordoba and Montemayor Town Hall, whose continuity is developed in 2019 and 2020.

Abstract:
When Michael Hart initiated his ambitious Gutenberg project of computer re-writing essential literature books, in 1971, sure it was very difficult to imagine our today dependency of digital devices and social media. To type on the those time typewriter devices the basic scholarly novels it was a difficult option for a 24 years man, proven a visionary thinking to the people future access. It was ten years before the lunching the IBM PC's, and Internet Protocols, in a time of the firsts text editors... Twenty years before the first World Wide Web real demo ... But Michael Hart succeeded to build a community of volunteers, delivering free the project results, digital books (through floppies, diskettes, tapes, and later on CD-ROM, or DVDs. Gutenberg project arrived as a model for many libraries to save their depots and manuscripts. Networking and Internet services (email and FTP) already gave new solutions for distribution and visibility of Gutenberg project, for access to digital books. For scientists it was another need, the better access to the scientific publications, an easier way to publish their results. Consequently, quite in the same time when CERN accepted to finance the Tim Berners Lee proposal, the firsts signs of a movement for open access publications are registered. As a nice example, PACS Review (Public Access Computer Science Review), at the Houston University, prepared and announced in 1989, with its first 3 numbers in 1990. A journal delivered as ASCII file, by email, later through a Gopher server, and finally-from 1995 on-line, through the Houston University Web server (HTML, or ASCII format). PACS Review publication stops in 2000. Since 1995 a really peer revue, quality, open journal was launched by Cristian Calude, Herman Maurer, Arto Salomaa at Graz University, called JUCS - ,,Journal of Universal Computer Science". A journal with very regular publication till now. There are, of course, a lot of other interesting examples of electronic (digital) open access journals, in different fields. A new step in this evolution was done through the development of the open source tools for the management of such digital journals into the Web server infrastructure. It was done by the initiative and efforts of John Willinsky, through his PKP - Public Knowledge Project - a multi-university initiative developing free open source software and conducting research to improve the quality and reach of scholarly publishing. PKP was founded in 1998 at the Education Faculty of UBC, with the aim to improve the research quality. Another important steps necessary to count of are the 2002 Budapest Open Access Initiative, and the MIT university decision to publish their course materials, generating the corresponding consortium. As an answer to Budapest Open Access Initiative, it is the developing of an on-line catalog of Open Access Journals - DOAJ (build and maintained by Lars Bjornshauge from 2003 until 2013 at the Lund University, recently moved at Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association - OASPA. Into this catalog there are included now about 10.000 Open Access Journals. Of course that in such a paper it isn't possible to escape the competition, more a less a battle between Online Open-Access journals and traditional ones. As well to discus the issue of fake publishers or publishers not living up to reasonable standards both in terms of content and of business behavior. Does all this Open Access movement change a bit the perspectives concerning the transformation of the teachers role in the "Web 2.0 Era" ?
