Abstract:
AbstractReading messages from the past to fi nd their implications for the present is a difficult task of interpretation. Certain hermeneutical skills are needed to prevent failure to bridge the gap in perspective between writers andreaders, and to meet the contextual needs. The focus of this article is the framework of Hans-Georg Gadamer’s hermeneutic theory. Studying Gadamer provides important benefits for contextual hermeneutic studies. This article suggests that Gadamer’s hermeneutics is beneficial for theological education struggling to overcome the diversity of horizons in the process of discovering the meaning of scriptures.

Abstract:
Pagrindiniai žodžiai: hermeneutika, genealogija, tradicija, ontologija, valia galiai.Towards a New Account of Hermeneutics: Genealogy versus Hermeneutics Andrius Bielskis SummaryThe essay analyses the difference between Hans-Georg Gadamer’s and Alasdair MacIntyre’s conceptions of hermeneutic philosophy, on the one hand, and Nietzschean genealogy, on the other. It argues that Ricoeur’s famous distinction between ‘hermeneutics of faith’ and ‘hermeneutics of suspicion’ in the light of the ontological reading of Nietzsche’s genealogy is misleading. Rather than trying to understand Nietzsche’s philosophy as the hermeneutics of suspicion, it is more accurate to see Nietzsche’s and Foucault’s interpretive philosophy in terms of genealogy. The contrast between Gadamerian hermeneutics and Nietzschean genealogy, the one hand, as well as reading Gadamer hermeneutics in the light of MacIntyre’s conception of tradition-constituted and tradition-constitutive philosophical inquiry, on the other, allow us to formulate an alternative conception of hermeneutics. The essay argues that hermeneutics is inevitably linked to tradition: hermeneutics depend on and draws its moral and intellectual resources from tradition as well as determines and continues tradition further. Keywords: Hermeneutics, genealogy, tradition, ontology, will to power.: Calibri, sans-serif;">

Abstract:
This paper studies John 4: 1-26 in a post-structuralist hermeneutical perspective. Hermeneutics is the art of understanding, namely understanding a text, aiming to reveal the meaning contained in the text. In this case, what is meant is a post-structuralist hermeneutics which assumes that the meaning of a text lies not behind the text but in front of it. With this assumption, the meaning is beyond the author's interests, thus opening up the possibility for the polysemy of meaning found by the reader today. Four successive contextual concerns that can be examined hermeneutically in the narrative of John 4:1-26 are the context of injustice, poverty, radicalism, and ecological damage. These four context challenges are also the challenges facing the churches in Indonesia, which they grapple with in the 16th Session of the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (CCI) in Nias and the 17th in Sumba. The results of the hermeneutics study arrived at the praxis of the holistic liberation of Jesus to overcome these four challenges. They can be used as a praxis for the holistic ministry of the churches today.

Abstract:
Pardes (sometimes written as 'PaRDeS') represents an abbreviation for: Peshat, Derash, Remez, and Sod apart from having different levels of search for meaning, but also unique in their way of interpretation. The advent of Pardes' hermeneutics has given direction to the world of Jewish hermeneutics. Pardes was the benchmark for hermeneutics in the Jewish tradition. Pardes becomes the standard in the steps of interpretation, mainly to examine the literary structure of the biblical text by considering the text as a whole based on their source language and combining relevant secondary and tertiary (third) background materials. Yet many theologians consider Sod, the highest level for interpreting the "hidden meaning", as an incomprehensible endeavor. The Sod approach in a unique way, namely esoteric interpretation, is regarded as something that cannot be revealed with certainty. Sod is doubtful about the level of accuracy in interpreting the biblical text. This article wants to review the extent of this hermeneutic interpretation polemic, and whether the esoteric approach of Sod in Pardes is still relevant for biblical hermeneutics today? This article will review it based on library research.

Abstract:
This paper discuss about the practice of hermeneutical interpretation by a nineteenth-century scholar, K.H. Ahmad Rifa'i in his works. Some of the books he wrote are an attempt of interpretive practice that is organized thematically rather than an orderly mushafi, fiqh-style using hermeneutic principles that always connect between text, context and contextualization based on socio-cultural conditions and realities that occurred in the era of colonialism. The use of hermeneutic principles in each of his works aims to produce a contextual, modernist, reformative interpretation, and in accordance with the needs of the society at that time. The existence of works and da'wah K.H.A. Rifa'i became an intellectual weapon against and rebelled against colonialism. The patterns of thought, attitude and behavior of noncooperation are passed on to Jam'iyah Rifa'iyah generation until now.[Tulisan ini membahas praktik penafsiran hermeneutis yang dilakukan oleh seorang ulama abad ke-19, K.H. Ahmad Rifa’i dalam karya-karyanya. Keberadaan karya dan dakwah K.H.A. Abstract:
This paper seeks to see how important pre-understanding is in a contextual hermeneutic process. Therefore, by referring to the concept of pre-understanding in modern hermeneutics, both developed by Schleiermacher, Dilthey, Heidegger, Habermas, Ricoeur and Gadamer through a literature study, the author tries to see their constructive significance for contextual hermeneutics in Indonesia. In the end, it must be recognized that as a hermeneutic creature as Heidegger said, humans are not free from pre-understanding and pre-understanding is a prerequisite for doing hermeneutics. However, this pre-understanding must be criticized too, because not everything of it is emancipatory for life or even destructive tends to live.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
This essay is interlaced with the exhibition Alien Beauty by Fredrik Odénius, and is to be seen as a reflection of and upon the presented works and their becoming. By focusing on the role of interpretation in various stages of the creation process the essay tries to distinguish Odénius sculptural practice as a hermeneutical activity.  By tracing one of the main strands of thought in hermeneutics, from exegesis, via Heidegger to Gadamer, interpretations treated as a means of existence, an ontological activity in its own right.  One can understand art as an act of interpretation by the way of gestaltung, to interpret a thing through matter. Another way to define art is through its institutions and the concept of the artworld. By accessing art through both these definitions simultaneously, a new idea of how a work of art operates is revealed, both as an autonomic being and as a man-made artefact. By giving primacy to the open-ended structure of creation, with curiosity and association as driving forces, it is argued for that the act of gestaltung draws a line between the inside and outside that allows a dialogue between material and creator. Through this process the material is given a possibility to make itself heard, and as the artist steps back, the bond between motif and work remains and establishes a continuity outside the human realm.

Abstract:
In the philosophy of architecture, phenomenological aesthetics has acquired particular relevance. It focuses on the problems of perception, atmospheres, and physicality. However, along with phenomenology, the hermeneutics of architecture plays an equally important role. The purpose of this report is to identify the common starting positions of phenomenological aesthetics and hermeneutics in the analysis of architecture; to point out the various tasks of the phenomenology and hermeneutics of architecture. Phenomenology starts from the description of space and its impact on a person. Hermeneutics proceeds from the experience of understanding space as reading and simultaneous self-understanding by a person of himself. The hermeneutic formulation of the question of the space of architecture in the future goes beyond the boundaries of the original experience of perception, expands the problem of understanding to the problem of multi ple interpretations and historicity of meaning.

Abstract:
A living understanding (according to Losev) of the topic studied in the lesson for the student is associated with the personal experience (according to Stanislavsky) of its semantic context. The individuality of the tempo/rhythm of this process guarantees the emotionality of the student's mastering of the studied. To provide teachers with the ability to design such a “lesson direction” from the situational-business conjugations of theatrical, hermeneutic and pedagogical spheres of professional activity, drama hermeneutics arose in didactics. Switch super task of which is to provide teachers with a system of figurative prompts: which of the well-known methodological techniques it makes sense to involve in their next lessons, building out of them one of the modern versions of the “hermeneutic procedure”.

Abstract:
This article is about defining Philo’s place in the history of philosophy and biblical exegesis. In this connection, his own self-identification as a “hermeneut” in his treatise De Animalibus should be important. In this treatise, which is one of the “purely philosophical works” of the author, Philo himself twice explicitly states that he is a hermeneut (Alex. 7; 74). In this case, it is unlikely that he means “interpreter of Scripture”, and the question is to what extent does the translation “interpreter” cover the meaning of hermeneut (ἑρμηνεὺς)? An attempt will be made to read this statement of Philo in the context of his understanding of ἑρμηνεὺς in other places in his work related to biblical exegesis, as well as in the context of the overall ancient understanding of hermeneutics.

Abstract:
Philo of Alexandria (ca. 20 B.C.E. -50 C.E.), or Philo Judaeus as he is also called, was a Jewish scholar, philosopher, politician, and author who lived in Alexandria and who has had a tremendous influence through his works (mostly on the Christian exegesis and theology). Today hardly any scholar of Second Temple Judaism, early Christianity, or Hellenistic philosophy sees any great imperative in arguing for his relevance. After the research (contribution) of V. Nikiprowetzky in the field of philonic studies, it seems that the prevailing view is that Philo should be regarded above all as an “exegete “. Such an opinion in one way or another seems to neglect to some extent Philo's place in the History of philosophy. This article defends the position that Philo should be considered primarily as a “hermeneut”. Emphasizing that the concept of hermeneutics has a broader meaning (especially in the context of antiquity) than the narrower and more specialized concept of exegesis.

Ivanyshyn, Petro. BASIC CONCEPTS OF YEVHEN MALANIUK’S NATIONAL-PHILOSOPHICAL INTERPRETATION: ESEISTIC DISCOURSE. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, February 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.49.11070.

Abstract:
The purpose of the research is to outline the structure of the main methodological ideas within the frames of interpretive thinking in the essay of the famous Vistnyk’s writer, critic and essayist Yevhen Malaniuk. Considering the purpose and tasks of the studio, an interdisciplinary methodological base, related to the author’s “national approach”, has been worked out. The epistemological potential of national philosophy as a philosophy of national existence, national science as a theory of nation, hermeneutics as a theory and practice of interpretation and post-colonialism as interpretation of cultural phenomena from the standpoint of anti- and post-imperial consciousness are used in the work. The scientific novelty is that on the basis of the previous hermeneutic generalization and definition of national-existential methodology, a propaedeutic outlining of the structure of national-philosophical concepts within the frames of the essayistic interpretation of reality in Ye. Malaniuk is proposed. In the methodological sense, the writer’s essayism is structured by such concepts as nation-centrism, idealism, voluntarism, heroism, and can be considered as one of the variants (close by the experiences of D. Dontsov, Yu. Lypa, M. Mukhyn, etc.) of the Vistnyk’s national-philosophical (national-existential, nationalistic or nation-centric) hermeneutics, that is, the way of understanding, which the author by himself outlined as a “national approach”. The support of Ye. Malaniuk as a culture-philosopher and exegete on the eternal nation-centric values and criteria in his essayistic studies makes his reflections not only historically interesting, but also theoretically productive, classically important for the development of modern Ukrainian hermeneutics and humanities in general.

Abstract:

Gregory, Scott. A life of leadership, a call to do better: A hermeneutic inquiry into the lived experience of an educator - Raw Data. Fort Hays State University Scholars Repository, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.58809/qphb1840.

Abstract:
Eliciting lived experiences, we seek to identify those experiences that have shaped the lived practice of a career and desire to answer: (1) How have experiences informed a career? (2) What does the lived educational experiences of an educator portend for the future of education? This inquiry incorporates the lived past experiences of the co-authors. Additionally, we seek to offer a path forward for the future of the profession that we love and have been grateful to experience. This data was part of a hermeneutic inquiry research project involving myself and my father, Dr. Leonard L. Gregory. The data was recorded utilizing a phone recording and then setting up a zoom meeting whereby the audio was converted onto a word document. From there, the data was uploaded into Dedoose where it was stored and coded for initial themes. The journal entries that I made were from a personal print copy journal. I utilized this journal after the initial round of recordings with my father. I used it to jot down questions that I had from the previous meeting, and we utilized it to make notations of thoughts that we both had afterwards from the meetings we had. The text Conducting Hermeneutic Research: From philosophy to Practice by Nancy J. Moules, et al., was a key influence and outlines the use of my data according to hermeneutic standards.

Abstract:
COVID-19 was a great challenge for Orthodox Christians worldwide. As all natural disasters in modernity, the pandemic was explained and combatted on the basis of science. There could be no doubt that death, pain, suffering, despair, imprisonment (the quarantine can indeed be experienced as an imprisonment) are opportunities for the Church to bear witness to Christ. To be ashamed of one’s vulnerability and to neglect the communal aspect of suffering means to render oneself less capable of bearing witness. Hence, it is important to find the conceptual ground for calibrating the truthful reaction to the pandemic in terms of the Christian ethos. To achieve this, we need the proper interpretative lens through which to examine the disaster of the pandemic.

Abstract:
The article continues, for the first time in English in domestic science, to study the question of the need to create a new scientific theory – the theory of mass information. For the first time too raises the question of creating, in a place of the current theory of mass communication, a system of sciences including: a) mass information (shpuld be created now in rpoh of mass information), b) the theory of mass understanding (has created as a hermeneutics of the masses), c) the theory of mass communication (has created as a theory of the transfer of content) and the theory of mass emotions (started to create in 2017). This is a paradoxical situation – the absence of fundamental theory of mass information in the epoch of mass information. Researches in the scientific works of foreign mass communication also showed the absence of a holistic theory, as well as attempts to create it, even the lack of decisions on the need to create it as a new scientific field.

Carty, Anthony, and Jing Gu. Theory and Practice in China’s Approaches to Multilateralism and Critical Reflections on the Western ‘Rules-Based International Order’. Institute of Development Studies (IDS), October 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/ids.2021.057.

Full text
Abstract:
China is the subject of Western criticism for its supposed disregard of the rules-based international order. Such a charge implies that China is unilateralist. The aim in this study is to explain how China does in fact have a multilateral approach to international relations. China’s core idea of a community of shared future of humanity shows that it is aware of the need for a universal foundation for world order. The Research Report focuses on explaining the Chinese approach to multilateralism from its own internal perspective, with Chinese philosophy and history shaping its view of the nature of rules, rights, law, and of institutions which should shape relationships. A number of case studies show how the Chinese perspectives are implemented, such as with regards to development finance, infrastructure projects (especially the Belt and Road Initiative), shaping new international organisations (such as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank), climate change, cyber-regulation and Chinese participation in the United Nations in the field of human rights and peacekeeping. Looking at critical Western opinion of this activity, we find speculation around Chinese motives. This is why a major emphasis is placed on a hermeneutic approach to China which explains how it sees its intentions. The heart of the Research Report is an exploration of the underlying Chinese philosophy of rulemaking, undertaken in a comparative perspective to show how far it resembles or differs from the Western philosophy of rulemaking.
