Abstract:
This special issue focuses on recent research in interdisciplinary mathematics and mathematical sciences. For the last four decades, the Forum for Interdisciplinary Mathematics (FIM), a society for researchers in mathematical sciences, has focused on mathematics, combinatorics, statistics, operations research, computer science, fuzzy sets, rough sets, bioinformatics, etc. The 22nd International Conference of FIM on Interdisciplinary Mathematics, Statistics and Computational Techniques (IMSCT 2013-FIM XXII) was held in Kitakyushu, Japan, on November 10-12, 2013. This conference was organized by the International Society of Management (ISME international), the Graduate School of Information, Production and Systems, Waseda University, in conjunction with FIM. IMSCT 2013-FIM XXII was attended by faculty members, researchers, specialists, and graduate students from around the world. The 50 papers presented included keynote speeches by Professor Bhu Dev Sharma, Professor Milan Vlach, and Professor Tomonari Suzuki, together with five plenary talks. To promote FIMfs activities, guest editors had also planned to invite public participation in this special issue accepting nine papers, four selected papers from the conference and five papers closely related to this special issue. Each paper underwent strict peer reviews. The first paper, Crisp and Fuzzy Granular Hierarchical Structures Generated from a Free Monoid, by Tetsuya Murai, Sadaaki Miyamoto, Masahiro Inuiguchi, Yasuo Kudo, and Seiki Akama, proposes a granular hierarchy, and characterizes the mathematical structure based on fuzzy multisets, fuzzy sets, and rough multisets. This granular hierarchy includes Yagerfs fuzzy multisets and Zadehfs fuzzy sets, offering a general framework. The second paper, Variable Neighborhood Model for Agent Control Introducing Accessibility Relations Between Agents with Linear Temporal Logic, by Seiki Ubukata, Tetsuya Murai, Yasuo Kudo, and Seiki Akama, discusses a variable neighborhood model based on a Kripke framework, and applies this model to introducing the agentfs personal space. The authorsf research is an attempt to realize the agentfs personality. The third paper, Estimating Writing Neatness from Online Handwritten Data, by Motoki Miura and Takamichi Toda, considers the neatness of handwritten notes in using the authorsf Air-TransNote digital pen technology. The digital pen reports physical information, and authors estimate neatness by using this physical information. Based on experiments, the authors conclude variance in pen speed, average angular point, and average pen speed are the most important features for evaluating handwriting neatness. The fourth paper, Application of Rough Set-Based Information Analysis to Questionnaire Data, by Naoto Yamaguchi, Mao Wu, Michinori Nakata, and Hiroshi Sakai, applies the authorsf rough non-deterministic information analysis (RNIA) to questionnaire data and question-answering. Experimental results indicate the power of the getRNIA software tool developed by the authors and possibilities for new types of data analysis. The fifth paper, Analysis of Consistent Equilibria in a Mixed Duopoly, by Vyacheslav V. Kalashnikov, Vladimir A. Bulavsky, Nataliya I. Kalashnykova, Junzo Watada, and Diego Je Jes?s Hern?ndez-Rodr?guez, investigates a model of partially mixed duopoly with conjectured variations in equilibrium. They establish the existence and the uniqueness for conjectured variations in equilibrium for any set of feasible conjectures, and prove the existence theorem for interior equilibrium. The sixth paper, Mixed Oligopoly: Analysis of Consistent Equilibria, twinned with the fifth paper and by the same authors, deals with a case of an oligopoly. Under condition of the oligopoly, the authors conclude results similar to those of the fifth paper. They also provide numerical experiments illustrating the differences among partially mixed, mixed, and classical oligopoly cases. The seventh paper, Interest Rate Liberalization and Fiscal Policy in China: A New Keynesian DSGE Model, by Bing Xu, Qiuqin He, Xiaowen Hu, and Shangfeng Zhang, studies the relationships between the liberalization of the interest rate and the fiscal policy in China. The authors propose new Keynesian DSGE analysis, that handles many more factors than the previous model. The new model is applied to analyzing economic data, and the modelfs validity is examined based on experiments. The eighth paper, Mutually Dependent Markov Decision Processes, by Toshiharu Fujita and Akifumi Kira, investigates dynamic programming and the Markov decision process. The authors propose a new advanced framework, called a mutually dependent Markov decision process. Each process is precisely formulated in dynamic programming style, and simulated by using a numeric example. This paper develops a framework for complex multi-stage decision processes. The ninth and last paper, Monthly Maximum Accumulated Precipitation Forecasting Using Local Precipitation Data and Global Climate Modes, by Junaida Binti Sulaiman, Herdianti Darwis, and Hideo Hirose, considers the problem of precipitation forecasting in Malaysia, and proposes soft-computing-based analysis methods. In the four methods proposed, multi-neural network-PSO showed the best performance for previous data sets. The development of such an analysis method is expected to make precipitation forecasting more accurate. In closing, the guest editors would like to acknowledge the efforts of all of the authors for their generous and insightful contributions. We are grateful to the reviewers for their incisive on-time reviews. Profs. P.V. Subrahmanyam, D.S. Hooda, Kalpana K. Mahajan, and Tumulesh Solanky, served as co-chairs and guest editors at IMSCT 2013-FIM XXII, and we acknowledge their invaluable work at this conference. We are grateful to Professors Toshio Fukuda and Kaoru Hirota, Chief Editors of JACIII, for inviting us to serve as Guest Editors of this Journal and to Ms. Reiko Ohta of Fuji Technology Press for her ongoing assistance in the publication of this special issue.

Abstract:
With the development of technology, self-service kiosks (kiosks) are increasingly being adopted by service providers such as hotels, restaurants, airports and banks [1, 2]. However, with the increasing search for more efficiency, calculability and control by replacing people with non-human technology, service quality and a sense of hospitality can be adversely impacted [3]. Nevertheless, many seem willing to use kiosks in fast-food restaurants [4], suggesting that these provide considerable value for some segments of the hospitality industry. Consequently, this study [5] explores young people’s customer experiences of and views on using kiosks in McDonald’s restaurants. The study was carried out in Auckland, New Zealand, where interviews were conducted with 16 young people (18 to 24 years old; Gen Z)1 originating from seven countries (2 Indian, 3 Chinese, 2 Korean, 2 Vietnamese, 1 Filipino, 1 Moroccan and 5 New Zealanders). The findings suggest that kiosks provide improved customer satisfaction but can also result in reduced perceptions of hospitableness. The respondents felt that kiosks improved efficiency by eliminating the need to queue to place an order and provided more relaxed time for making their menu selections. Therefore, although using a kiosk did not necessarily speed up the service process, it allowed time for contemplation of choices and less time waiting to be served. The kiosks also provided clear food categories with pictures, simple English language instructions, and generally simple ordering and payment processes. Compared with the amount of information provided at the service counter, the kiosks provided more detailed and clearer information about menus, ingredients, discounts and promotions. Furthermore, when using kiosks, respondents felt a sense of empowerment and control over their ordering process. Kiosks provided the ability to customise meals, discuss menu choices and change orders without feeling as if they were annoying an employee or holding up other customers. This sense of empowerment and control provided relief from the pressure to place quick orders at the service counter or delay other customers. Many respondents were afraid of annoying employees or becoming an annoying customer in public. They cared about the perception of counter staff, while at the same time, they also cared about their personal image in public. The fast-paced restaurant environment and the need to be decisive with their menu selection added to the pressure and stress when purchasing takeaways. Additionally, those who spoke English as a second language faced increased stress while trying to select the right words and communicate with employees in front of others. These pressures increased their fear of public humiliation. Many respondents indicated there was no pressure when using kiosks as the kiosks offered more time and a judgment-free environment for customers. The number of kiosks available and the freedom from employee and other customer expectations had a significant impact on them by releasing them from any pressure to make a quick decision. Reduced pressure also brought enough time for discussion of food choices among friends. Using the self-order kiosk provided respondents with a judgment-free environment away from other customers and busy employees. The time-space provided by kiosks also provided respondents with a sense of safety and privacy in situations where, for example, they were upset or not confident speaking in English. Their emotions (e.g. happy, sad), skills (e.g. level of English language), appearance (e.g. lack of makeup) and eating habits (e.g. food allergy) were kept confidential in comparison to ordering in public at the counter. However, the findings also suggested that the appeal of kiosks is somewhat determined by the lack of useful and caring alternatives. This may suggest that the issue is not whether kiosks are able to do a better job than humans, but rather whether humans (service employees) are sufficiently resourced (e.g. capability and capacity) to provide both efficient and caring interactions. Abstract:
White matter stroke secondary to microvascular injury is common yet the molecular changes that accompany ischemic damage to white matter are poorly understood. MRI imaging studies suggest that abnormalities exist within the white matter adjacent to lacunar infarcts and this may lead to infarct progression through a functional disruption of adjacent axons. Hereditary subcortical stroke syndromes provide a unique opportunity to study the molecular mechanisms of cerebral microvascular disease and its effect on white matter. Here, we examined two autopsy cases of hereditary endotheliopathy with retinopathy, nephropathy and stroke (HERNS) syndrome with severe microvascular ischemic disease in the cerebral white matter to determine the molecular organization of myelin and axons within the cerebral white matter adjacent to lacunar infarcts in these patients. MRI imaging was used to identify regions of prior lacunar infarction or FLAIR hyperintensity. Serial paraffin-embedded sections within these regions were immunolabeled for markers of nodes of Ranvier and paranodes as well as neurofilaments and myelin basic protein and compared to normal-appearing white matter and non-diseased controls. Compared to controls, HERNS cases demonstrate lengthening of paranodes and disrupted nodal staining patterns consistent with a loss of normal axon-oligodendrocyte molecular interactions. These abnormalities of axonal microdomains are present beyond the region of infarction suggested by MRI and H&E sections and occur in areas of FLAIR hyperintensity without frank lacunar infarction. These results indicate there is a peri-infarct in white matter stroke marked by molecular disruption of axons surrounding the infarct that may serve as a new therapeutic target for this currently untreatable form of ischemic stroke.

Abstract:
Title: Analysis of the Tennis Serve from the perspective of the receiving player Objectives: To determine whether it is possible for the receiving opponent to estimate the direction and type of tennis serve based on the server's toss. Methods: The indirect method was used in the form of video surveillance to meet the objectives. The analyzed group consisted of five professional tennis players, who were exposed to the research model game situation. All five servers were recorded by a high speed camera in the area of the receiving player; radar was used to measure the ball speed. The key point for evaluation was the moment of release of the ball from the server's hand, the highest reached point of the ball and the moment when the ball was hit by the racket. The analyzed results were presented in the form of tables and graphs; from the statistical methods, the arithmetic average was used mainly. Results: This research focused on anticipating the tennis serve from the perspective of the receiving player. Overall, we observed five players, who served first from the right side and then the left side into the dedicated opponent's receiving area marked by lines. We established a research question whether it is possible to estimate the direction and type of serve based on the server's toss. When comparing...
