BACKGROUND A hernia is the abnormal exit of tissue or an organ, such as the bowel, through the wall of the cavity in which it normally resides. Hernias come in a variety of forms. The abdomen, specifically the groin, is most frequently involved. Incisional hernias and other ventral hernias are common surgical problems. A prosthetic mesh should always be used in ventral hernia repair (VHR). Now, the polypropylene mesh (PPM) has become the prosthetic mesh of choice in the repair of hernias, including inguinal hernia. Hernioplasty using mesh implants is a modern method of treating hernias of the anterior abdominal wall. The most common complication of hernia surgery is hernia recurrence. The main reason for the development of recurrence is the discrepancy between the size of the implant and the hernial defect, which may occur due to a decrease in the size of the mesh after its installation. Because of the thin hernial sac and adherent nature of the skin, approximately 3 cm of the hernial sac was preserved. As a result, many affected patients are managed non-operatively. Abstract:
Review question / Objective: To compare the clinical outcomes of utilizing biologic mesh versus synthetic mesh during ventral hernia repair (VHR). Eligibility criteria: Inclusion criteria were randomized controlled trials comparing biologic and synthetic mesh in ventral hernia repair. Studies were included if they were focused on adults (over age 18), human subjects, and were published in the English language. Studies were limited to only VHR and needed to compare biologic with synthetic mesh. Repair could be done open, laparoscopically, or robotically. Exclusion criteria included: (1) article

Abstract:
Herein we evaluate using a robotic arm with an attached camera to investigate objects of interest in simulation. Specifically, a Husky unmanned ground vehicle with a Panda Powertool was used in the simulation. The code enabled an operator to initiate a preconfigured set of motions when an object of interest was identified. The scan was stored in a database file that was used to generate a 3D mesh of the scanned object. The report describes both setting up the simulation and the code used to scan objects of interest.
