The battle between Hezbollah and Israel can be categorized as post-modern warfare because it has hybrid and irregular elements of warfare. This article applies symbolic convergence theory (SCT) to the type of symbolism used by Hezbollah, a Shia terrorist organization. By and large, SCT posits that sharing group fantasies contributes to symbolic convergence. The success of symbolic convergence hinges on three important concepts: symbolic cue, fantasy type and saga. An example of a symbolic cue is Hezbollah’s yellow-and-green logo that symbolizes global militancy against infidels. In regards to the organization’s fantasy types, eight of them were identified (e.g. Al-Quds Day, definition of enemies and individual self-sacrifice). Ap

Hezbollah has been an important political and military actor in Lebanon and the Middle East since the mid-1980s. Its popularity grew especially after successfully deterring the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 2006. With the emergence of the so-called Arab Spring, however, the party’s popularity declined for many reasons. One of these was its military intervention in Syria on the side of the Syrian government. This event has been interpreted in various ways, sometimes explaining it as religiously-motivated decision, due to Hezbollah’s strong affiliation to Shia Islam. This empirical research fin

Abstract This paper explores the evolution of Hezbollah following Israel’s 1982 invasion of Lebanon. Initially established to counter Israeli aggression and occupation, Hezbollah transitioned into a significant political and military entity in Lebanon post-2001. The organization has gained prominence as Lebanon’s leading political force, receiving substantial support from the Islamic Republic of Iran and adhering to the doctrine of Wilayat al-Faqih. Its transformation into a regional entity, coupled with a significant security role beyond Lebanon’s borders, has been noteworthy. However, Hezbol
