Image steganography involves hiding a secret message within an image for covert communication, allowing only the intended recipient to extract the hidden message from the “stego” image. The secret message can also be an image itself to enable the transmission of more information, resulting in applications where one image is concealed within another. While existing techniques can embed a secret image of similar size into a cover image with minimal distortion, they often overlook the effects of lossy compression during transmission, such as when saving images in the commonly used JPEG format. Often associated with optical illusions, its history and viability for application to product design are reviewed. This includes an assessment of different designs’ impact on the overall recognition of hidden anamorphic objects, focusing on their design attributes to determine the best at conc

Here, using a sampling design that included populations covering most of its distributional range, we investigated the spatial distribution of genetic variability of this species, and we tested the hypothesis that P. bicolor is composed of deeply structured genetic groups, constituting mor

Engineering patternmaking is an industrial craft that remains almost invisible in design history, despite the design-related nature of patternmaking, and its centrality to many industrial manufacturing processes. Abstract:
Chemical process models often involve high non-linearity due to thermodynamic and kinetic relationships, with non-convex bilinear terms adding complexity to process optimization. Recently, data-driven models, particularly artificial neural networks (ANNs), have gained traction for representing chemical processing units. The predictive accuracy of ANNs depends on data quality, variable interactions, and network architecture, the latter being an optimization challenge itself. This study proposes and evaluates two strategies to optimize ANN architecture for modeling a propylene glycol production

Abstract A fast algorithm for rendering three dimensional geometry as wireframes is developed. The algorithm employs a constructive solid geometry (CSG) model as its underlying geometric representation scheme, set membership classification for the removal of non-boundary lines, and a finite-point backward ray tracing method for hidden line removal. By eliminating conventional polygon surface approximation and its associated surface topology representation, requiring high information overhead, the algorithm demonstrates speed and simplicity. The primary purpose of the algorithm is for expeditio

Over the last two decades, a trend has been developing in the design community to promote social equity and emphasize the ethical responsibility of design. Community participation, programming, and post-occupancy evaluations have cemented a more democratic design process in which users, clients, and community members are given a voice to affect the final architecture product through a process called participatory design. This modus operandi becomes more vital when dealing with subcultures that historically have felt marginalized from the dominant culture. In the United States, there is great d

The Kalman filter has been widely applied for state identification in controllable systems. As a special case of hidden Markov model, it is based on the assumption of linear dependency relationships and Gaussian noises. The classical Kalman filter does not differentiate systematic error from random error associated with observations. In this paper, we propose an extended Kalman filtering mechanism based on generalized interval probability, where systematic error is represented by intervals, state and observable variables are random intervals, and interval-valued Gaussian distributions model th
