Abstract:

Our world is moving towards ubiquitous networked computing with unstoppable momentum. With technology available at our every finger tip, we expect to connect quickly, cheaply, and securely on the sleekest devices. While the past four decades of design automation research has focused on making integrated circuits smaller, cheaper and quicker the past decade has drawn more attention towards security. Though security within the scope of computing is a large domain, the focus of this work is on the elimination of computationally based power byproducts from high-level device models down to phys

Abstract:
High-level disinfection is employed throughout the health services in the disinfection of medical equipment, such as endoscopes, to prevent patient-to-patient infections. The likelihood of an endoscope transmitted infection occurring is rare, providing strict guidelines are followed for effective decontamination between procedures. Endoscopes are subjected to rigorous cleaning and high-level disinfection within washer-disinfectors. However, poor decontamination protocols and inappropriate use of disinfectants can lead to can lead to incomplete disinfection and resistance. A number of bacterial

Abstract:
To combat widespread infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, mupirocin was introduced at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tennessee. Soon after introduction, high-level mupirocin-resistance emerged. The rapid emergence was hypothesized to be due to conjugative transfer of the mupA resistance gene from S. epidermidis to S. aureus. Results have shown that transfer of high-level mupirocin-resistance from S. aureus donors commonly occurs. However, transfer from naturally-occurring S. epidermidis donors was not attainable. Abstract:
Bacterial isolates from Malaysia and Thailand were obtained, characterised and tested for their MIC of ciprofloxacin (Cip). Some were found to be extremely resistant including three Acinetobacter baumannii (MIC of 128 mg/L). GyrA and parC are homologous genes and are subunits of enzyme DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, respectively. Three E. coli (MIC of 128 mg/L) had two mutations in GyrA (Ser-83 to Leu and Asp-87 to Tyr) and one mutation in parC (Ser-83 to lle). Another E. coli (MIC of 32 mg/L) had the same three mutations except at gyrA

Abstract:
Abstract:
Specific bacterial commensals demonstrating multidrug resistance (MDR) are opportunistic pathogens for immunocompromised patients, including Corynebacterium species (spp.). Severe infections due to MDR corynebacteria are being increasingly reported where several MDR phenotypes have been described. One such phenotype, the macrolide-lincosamide-streptogramin B phenotype (MLSB), is characterized by high-level resistance to macrolides, lincosamides, and streptogramin B. Resistance is thought to be attributable to acquisition of the ermX gene, a methyltransferase that alters the ribosomal macrolide

The study was conducted in the secondary schools of Vhembe district. Five secondary schools were selected for study. Data were collected by interviews. Interview involved asking questions, listening and recording answers and then following up with additional relevant questions. The findings revealed that lack of training regarding change influences people to resist change. Therefore, before the initiation of any change, the Department of Education should train all stakeholders involved in the day-to-day implementation of change. This will minimize resistance during the implementation sta
