This study would propose the development of innovative devices, in vacuum electronics field for high energy and high frequency applications. Design strategies for the improvement of electron devices are proposed in order to reduce size and increase efficiency of these devices, in particular referring to high power sources. As for high power sources, vacuum tube oscillators capable to generate simple sinusoidal signals or more complex signals are intended. In order to increase efficiency and frequency range of vacuum tubes, a new design approach for the development electron sources is proposed.

Batteries have been used to store energy and supply that energy for starting. Batteries need maintenance and their low efficiency is a problem too. The principle aim of this thesis is to extend the use of low pressure plasmas to the whole HPM system. Abstract:

Abstract:
The International Thermonuclear Experimental reactor (ITER), the world’s largest experimental facility in the realm of nuclear fusion for energy production, requires two Neutral Beam Injectors (NBI) rated for the total power of 33 MW for plasma heating and current drive. The ITER NBI includes an ion source which can produce 40 A of D¯ ions beams for 3600 s, accelerated at the energy of 1 MeV. The requirements for the ITER NBI are quite demanding and have never been achieved before all together in a single device. This specifically called for a development of the ITER Neutral Beam Test Facility

Power electronics are becoming established in ever broadening areas of industry. The transition from previous generation technology is driven by the oportunity for improvements in controllability, efficiency, and longevity. A wide variety of power semiconductors are available, however power handling capacity is still a significant limitation for many applications. An increase in the capacity of a single device is usually accompanied by a drop in switching frequency, and hence achievable system bandwidth. Increased capacity can be attained without this loss in bandwidth by using multiple lower

Abstract:
This research concerns an investigation into the application of Power Electronics to high performance power sources for precise and efficient control of the pulsed-current metal-inert gas (PCM) welding processes. The physical processes of the welding arc are reviewed and the characteristics of a number of power sources are considered prior to preparing the operational specification for the PCM power source. From a number of possibilities the high frequency switching regulator operating in the secondary side of the power transformer was selected for detailed study. The power source was based on
