Abstract A series of annealing treatments were designed to investigate the microstructure structure and surface morphology of hydrogenated diamond-like carbon coating with gradient Cr and Si (DCrSi) in different environments (argon & isostatic pressure) at different temperatures (400°C, 500°C, and 600°C). The pressure effect on the stability of DCrSi coatings was deduced from the analysis of the microstructure structure and surface morphology by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), surface roughness test, and Raman spectroscopy. Abstract Pebble Fuel is a spherical fuel for high temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGR). This fuel must have a homogeneous density distribution. Hyperelastic material is used as a pressure transmitting medium (PTM) material in making Pebble fuel using the cold quasi-isostatic pressing method. PTM material properties and characteristics were predicted using the finite element analysis method. The problem is the type of material used and its suitable composition to make a pressure-transmitting medium that has the properties and characteristics of the material as predicted. Research on rock porosity spans over a hundred years. The atmospheric circulation in the mid-latitudes of both hemispheres is usually dominated by westerly winds and by planetary-scale and shorter-scale synoptic waves, moving mostly from west to east. A remarkable and frequent exception to this “usual” behavior is atmospheric blocking. Blocking occurs when the usual zonal flow is hindered by the establishment of a large-amplitude, quasi-stationary, high-pressure meridional circulation structure which “blocks” the flow of the westerlies and the progression of the atmospheric waves and disturbances embedded in them. Such blocking structures can hav

Abstract:
The Calcine Disposition Project (CDP) of the Idaho Cleanup Project (ICP) has the responsibility to retrieve, treat, and dispose of the calcine stored at the Idaho Nuclear Technology and Engineering Center (INTEC) located at the Idaho National Laboratory. Calcine is the granular product of thermally treating, or calcining liquid high-level waste (HLW) that was produced at INTEC during the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) to recover uranium. The CDP is currently designing the Hot Isostatic Pressure (HIP) treatment for the calcine to provide monolithic, glass-ceramic waste form suitable f

Abstract:
The mechanics underlying ice–skate friction remain uncertain despite over a century of study. In the 1930s, the theory of self-lubrication from frictional heat supplanted an earlier hypothesis that pressure melting governed skate friction. More recently, researchers have suggested that a layer of abraded wear particles or the presence of quasi-liquid molecular layers on the surface of ice could account for its slipperiness. Here, we assess the dominant hypotheses proposed to govern ice– skate friction and describe experiments conducted in an indoor skating rink aimed to provide observations to
