Abstract A series of annealing treatments were designed to investigate the microstructure structure and surface morphology of hydrogenated diamond-like carbon coating with gradient Cr and Si (DCrSi) in different environments (argon & isostatic pressure) at different temperatures (400°C, 500°C, and 600°C). The pressure effect on the stability of DCrSi coatings was deduced from the analysis of the microstructure structure and surface morphology by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), surface roughness test, and Raman spectroscopy. Abstract Pebble Fuel is a spherical fuel for high temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGR). This fuel must have a homogeneous density distribution. Hyperelastic material is used as a pressure transmitting medium (PTM) material in making Pebble fuel using the cold quasi-isostatic pressing method. PTM material properties and characteristics were predicted using the finite element analysis method. The problem is the type of material used and its suitable composition to make a pressure-transmitting medium that has the properties and characteristics of the material as predicted. Abstract:
Abstract The glycine combustion method combined with hot-isostatic-pressing sintering technology is an effective approach to fabricating nanocomposites. We reported that the Gd2O3-MgO nanocomposites had excellent optical and mechanical performances. The nanopowders with low agglomeration were obtained by elaborating the mole ratio of metal cation to glycine. The excellent optical transmittance (78.2%~80.8%) over 3-6 μm and the high values for Vickers hardness (9.6±0.3 GPa) and bending strength (192.7±8.1 MPa) were obtained by hot-isostatic-pressing sintering at 1350°C with 200 MPa pressure.

Powder metallurgy techniques are often used in the fabrication of finished and semi-finished articles. At the CEA, a cold followed by a hot isostatic pressing method is used to produce solid forms from various types of powder. Occasionally, during the hot isostatic pressing part of the process, buckling of the titanium envelope near to the sealed end leads to fracture of the can and incomplete powder consolidation. The aim of this paper is to investigate by numerical finite element simulation the fracture process. A 2-D shell element model with Fourier series taking into account plastic deform

High pressure processing (HPP) is a cold pasteurization technology by which products, prepacked in their final package, are introduced to a vessel and subjected to a high level of isostatic pressure (300–600 MPa). High-pressure treatment of fruit, vegetable and fresh herb homogenate products offers us nearly fresh products in regard to sensorial and nutritional quality of original raw materials, representing relatively stable and safe source of nutrients, vitamins, minerals and health effective components. Such components can play an important role as a preventive tool against the start of ill

Experimental results on the preparation of functionally graded TiC-based cermets obtained by combustion synthesis (also known as Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesis, SHS) followed by quasi-isostatic (QIP) pressing in a granulate medium are presented. Pellets of TiC-Fe graded cermets are produced by stacking layers of Ti and C powder mixtures in which the content of a NiFe alloy (50 wt% Ni and 50 wt% Fe) is varied from 5 up to 25 vol %. X-ray diffraction showed that the NiFe alloy did not react with the TiC, thus preserving its special properties. Scanning electron microscopy results sh

To impregnate graphite of the GMZ brand with liquid aluminum alloy D16, a high-pressure method and apparatus previously used for impregnating carbon frames with liquid coal pitch in the isostatic technology for the production of carbon-carbon composite materials were used. The graphite blank and the amount of aluminum alloy calculated from the initial porosity of graphite were placed in a thin-walled container, degassed in a vacuum furnace, after which the container with the contents was sealed. Thermobaric treatment was carried out at a temperature of 750°C and pressure of 100 and 200 MPa. Af

The paper presents the experimental results of possibility obtaining ultra-high temperature composite Ta4ZrC5 using a single-stage method. The method is based on the use of exothermic synthesis of refractory compounds by electro-thermal explosion (ETE) and their consolidation under conditions of quasi-isostatic compression. The effect of mechanical activation of the reaction mixture of tantalum, zirconium and carbon powders on the formation of the phase composition of the ceramic composite Ta4ZrC5 was studied.
