Abstract:
We examine the current trends of the professional orientation of high school students on pedagogical training areas. There have been negative trends: 1) the prevalence of information mechanisms of vocational guidance; 2) an overemphasis on the orientation of the instability of the labor market (although for the teaching profession, this problem is very low); 3) the orientation of high school students to receive education in general, and not on the professional values of the profession; 4) attempt to apply to the interests existing in students and values the foreign model based on finding a suitable sphere of labor, instead of the traditional Russian ideas about skills and values shaped in the activity. We reveal the obvious successes and methodological findings of the domestic system of career guidance on the profession of the teacher: 1) through the promotion of self-construction of the personal professional plan of a student; 2) through work with the emotional, motivational and semantic sphere of the person; 3) through formation the value pattern of the teaching profession in high school students.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to presenting the experience of studying the influence of various forms of pre-vocational training on the profession choice by the Kostroma Region's first and second-year students. The article presents a description of the statistical data; options and motivation for the profession choice by young students; the role of additional education organisations in the choice of a future profession; the role of school core classes in choosing a future profession; degree of students' satisfaction with the choice of future profession. The authors come to conclusions about the late period of professional self-determination of respondents, about a rather high level of independence in professional choice; however, also about the obviously insufficient role of various forms of pre-vocational education in the process of professional self-determination. The authors note that the influence of additional education is critical to the development of various personal qualities of students, but it virtually does not affect their professional choice. The specialised classes are neither effective as atool for vocational guidance. A large proportion of respondents complain about the absence of core classes at their school, and many of those who had studied in the core class, regret that today. What the authors try to present their research as, is conclusion about the need for serious transformations in the vocational guidance system of Kostroma Region.

Abstract:
Introduction. In the context of globalisation, competition for high quality and highly effective human capital is increasing. Successful training of highly qualified specialists is impossible without an adequate system of professional orientation of young people that is implemented at all levels of the educational system and expressed in real career guidance practices. Thus, the relevance of scientific understanding and analysis of career guidance activities carried out in modern times is manifested.Theaimof the publication was the study of modern vocational guidance practices present and prevailing in the educational system of the Russian Federation, taking into account world experience.Methodology and research methods. At the theoretical stage, the review and generalisation of scientific publications relevant to the stated theme and objectives of the research were carried out. To study career guidance practices, a questionnaire survey intended for high school students (1087 students of secondary rural, municipal and elite schools) of the Tyumen region was conducted. A selective secondary analysis of sociological studies published by the Russian and foreign scholars was undertaken. Results and scientific novelty. Global trends in career guidance were designated; real examples of the positive experience accumulated by other countries in this sphere were reviewed. The most burning issues of the implementation of career guidance activity in the Russian education system were identified. On the basis of sociological survey, the leading motives of professional choice by high school students were established. It was determined that those motives vary according to a status, a type and a territory of educational institution in which students study. The differences in students’ degree of satisfaction with career guidance actions were shown. The authors conclude that to avoid labour market distortions and many other social problems, it is necessary to concentrate the center of gravity of career guidance work on the general education; therefore, during this period the foundation for professional self-determination of a person is provided. It is necessary to shift the vector of implementation of career guidance practices in the system of general education with the identification of students’ capabilities and predispositions, to inform and to involve them in the world of professions (e.g. employment practices, meetings with representatives of different specialties and employers, as well as other forms and types of career guidance both inside and outside school). The authors propose the creation of federal platform on the principles of voluntary interaction of all interested parties in order to strengthen the role of vocational guidance of the younger generation and to provide students with timely valuable informational and advisory support.Practical significance. The materials and conclusions of the research can be used when developing effective recommendations to strengthen the process of professional orientation of young people in the education system.

Abstract:
Today it is extremely necessary to modernize the system of vocational guidance in Ukraine in accordance with the requirements of a market economy of content, forms and methods of career guidance, as well as public demands and achievements of prominent scientists on professional development and personal development. Thus, there is a need to critically rethink the past, improve its achievements and enrich it with the best examples of world science and practice. This will allow us to learn the signs of imbalance between supply and demand in the labor market, to determine the prospects for the development of theory and methods of vocational guidance for children, youth and adults in Ukraine. In modern conditions of socio-cultural development, the relevant qualities of a young person are not only the general educational level, but also the level of culture, socio-psychological competence, ability to think critically, the presence of their own point of view on social processes and problems. School graduates face the problem of choosing a way to prepare for a future profession. Often vocational training in an institution is chosen at random. Half of school graduates are immediately employed without special training and therefore professional career prospects. Modern technologies of career guidance work are designed to provide conditions for a person to realize his attitude to himself as a subject of professional work and behavior, which aims to independently search for professions taking into account their own interests and capabilities, and then the labor market. The purpose of the article is a theoretical analysis of the scientific problem of socio-psychological readiness of high school students to enter higher education institutions, the disclosure of the problem of professional self-determination of the individual in market processes. Research methods used: analysis of psychological and pedagogical literature; comparative-historical method of foreign and domestic experience in the study of socio-psychological readiness as a socio-psychological phenomenon.

This action research employed the descriptive quantitative research design using a researcher-made survey questionnaire that were administered to Grade 10 students from Santa Cruz National High School – Junior High School (n=319) and Manuel Francisco C. Ramos Sr. National High School (n=64). Frequency, percentage and ranking were utilized as statistical tool for this study. Results revealed that the majority of respondents opted to enroll at Sta. Cruz National High School – Senior High School. The Humanities and Social Science strand under the Academic Track had the largest number of students who favoured it over the other strands. Furthermore, it was clear that the majority of them chose the Technical Vocational Track over the Academic Track. The findings can be used to improve Career Guidance in the school, especially parents' engagement in their children's career decisions. Similarly, it is suggested that a standardized enrolment process be developed in which students undergo career assessments in order to help direct them in deciding which strand to pursue.
