Union Internationale des Chemins (UIC) defines the high-speed railway (HSR) as a high-speed railway system that contains the infrastructure and the rolling stock. The infrastructure can be newly built dedicated lines enabled for trains to travel with speed above 250 km/h or upgraded conventional lines with a speed up to 200 or even 220 km/h. HSR requires specially built trains with increased power to weight ratio and must have an in-cab signalling system as traditional signalling systems are incapable of above 200 km/h.

Background. The main way to improve the performance of railway systems is to increase the speed. When increasing speed, we reduce labor costs, turnaround time and increase profit. In passenger transportation, the most efficient are high-speed railways (HSR, or высокоскоростные магистрали in Russian). Over the past 60 years, the high-speed railway network has been actively developing in various countries of the world, allowing to analyze statistics on their construction and operation. AIM. Japan was the first country that built railway lines for high speed travel. Because of the mountainous terrain, the existing network consisted of 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) narrow gauge lines, which took indirect routes and could not be adapted to higher speeds. Consequently, Japan had a greater need for new high speed lines than countries where the existing standard gauge or broad gauge rail system had more upgrade potential.

The world-wide development of new high-speed rail lines has led to more stringent design requirements for railway bridges. This is mainly due to the fact that a train at high speeds can cause resonance in the bridge superstructure. In order to avoid problems of this kind, it has become essential to perform dynamic simulations, which are usually carried out in a time consuming finite element program. The main reason for not using an analytical solution is that this type of solution only exists for simple bridges, e.g., simply supported bridges. The aim of this thesis, is therefore the developm

The urban plan, in respect of the technical standards set by the rules, does not provide any indication for the inclusion of an important node in the territory, such as a station of an HSR line. Even the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) designed for metropolitan areas, in their strategic choices, often do not give indications on the HSR. It therefore happens that the territories are distorted by the effects caused by the location of such an important infrastructural node. Furthermore

Abstract:
<p>The construction informatization of railway bridges is becoming a significant feature of “intelligent manufacturing" in China's high speed railway (HSR). In order to explore the implementation of “Internet plus steel bridge construction" and further improve the quality and efficiency of construction, digitization and informatization of steel bridge construction have been studied. The overall framework of digital construction of railway steel bridge construction based on the internet of things (IoT) and BIM technology is proposed after analyzing the key process of quality control durin

Abstract:
India’s urbanization rate has increased from 26% in 1991 to 35% in 2021, and it is expected to reach 41% by 2030 (World Bank 2022). In response to this, as the backbone of its growing economy, the country’s infrastructure development, particularly transportation development, has been heavily emphasized. The railway sector will see an investment of $715.41 billion by 2030. Along with a series of supporting government policies, an opportunity to expand the high-speed rail (HSR) network has been presented in India. From the viewpoint of the government, HSR is an effective tool to address the surg

Abstract:
Millions of dollars are involved in high-speed rail (HSR) infrastructure construction and maintenance. Large-scale projects like HSR require funding from a variety of avenues beyond those available through public monies. Although HSR serves the general public’s mobility needs, any funds (whether State or Federal) flowing from the public exchequer usually undergo strict review and scrutiny. Funds from public agencies are always limited, making such traditional financing mechanisms unsustainable for fulfilling HSR’s long-term operational and maintenance cost needs—on top of initial costs involve

Abstract:
More than just scheduling terminal-to-terminal trips for trains, “Precision Scheduled Railroading” (PSR) creates entire point-to-point trip plans for individual railroad shipments. Since precision execution was first put into practice, the benefits to shipment arrival reliability and to freight railroads’ profitability have been demonstrated by its use in several Class One freight railroads. However, the effects of the PSR operating strategy on passenger railway operations in shared freight/passenger corridors has not been studied in detail. This research examines the effects of PSR railroad o

Abstract:
Why does the rail infrastructure of the United States lag behind those of many other developed countries? Where is U.S. high-speed rail? This research approaches this in a dilemma by exploring Amtrak’s traditional rail services and high-speed rail projects in the nation to understand the workings of public rail transportation policies, what they contain, and how they are developed and pursued by the different stakeholders. This research utilizes case studies and a multiscale approach to analyze the territorialization of intercity rail transportation policies. The analysis demonstrates the emer
