Abstract:
Rheological modification is frequently cited as a key application for hyperbranched polymers. However, the high degree of branching in these polymers restricts entanglement and the resultant mechanical properties suffer. Longer distances between branch points may allow entanglements. Highly branched polymers, where linear units are incorporated between branch points, are synthesized with an oligomeric A2 plus a monomeric B3. Higly branched polymers differ from traditional hyperbranched polymers in that every monomeric repeating unit of a hyperbranched polymer is a potential branch point, w

Poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) polymers are thermo-responsive and change conformation above their lower critical solution temperature (LCST). However, there is evidence that highly branched PNIPAM can be driven through a conformational change from open chain to globule at temperatures below the LCST by interaction of groups placed on the chain ends with a compatible molecule/ligand. It is less clear how the linear analogue would behave and our hypothesis is that it would collapse but with the chain ends shielded within the globule. Thesis (PhD (Wine Biotechnology))--University of Stellenbosch, 2011.
Includes bibliography.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Alcoholic fermentation, and especially wine fermentation, is one of the most ancient microbiological processes utilized by man. Yeast of the species Saccharomyces cerevisiae are usually responsible for most of the fermentative activity, and many data sets clearly demonstrate the important impact of this species on the quality and character of the final product. However, many aspects of the genetic and metabolic processes that take place during alcoholic fermentation remain p

Abstract:
This research aims to identify the process by which students form images of universities, the extent to which students’ favourable evaluations of image attractiveness lead to student-university identification, and the extent to which perceived image attractiveness and student-university identification determine planned behaviour, i.e., supportive intentions, including student choice of institution. Full-service international branch campuses offering complete degree programmes are a fairly new phenomenon on the higher education landscape and potential students have limited knowledge about them

Abstract:
This study explores the challenges perceived by senior officers in Western university branch campuses in a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) state and aims to provide insights into how leaders dealt with them. Thus, the study addresses four research questions. First, how campus senior officers perceive the challenges? Second, to what extent are these challenges a result of operating in a different cultural context? Third, how do senior officers deal with these challenges and maintain the quality of their home universities? Finally, how can the study findings be theorised to inform future policy a
