Abstract:
For researchers in the global South, international recognition in science arguably involves engaging with the norms, ideas, and people leading research activity in the global North. This article explores the relationship between international research collaboration and the publication activity of highly cited researchers in Brazil, a country that exerts regional leadership in scientific production in Latin America, but remains relatively peripheral to global science. This study examined the career trajectories and publication patterns of highly cited researchers based in Brazilian universities, using Web of Science and CV data. Our findings show a pattern of international mobility among the Brazilian highly cited researchers from the early stages of their careers. With few exceptions, engagement with the academic Anglosphere is central to their achievement of highly cited status, which is derived from co-authored publications with collaborators from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia in large teams.

Abstract:
Information Science is an interdisciplinary field that interacts with other disciplines through its intellectual borders. While there is much research into the interdisciplinary nature of Information Science, little research exists that identifies the nature, extent, and quality of these extra-disciplinary interactions. The purpose of the present study is to provide in-depth analyses of the implicit and explicit contexts of citations as a means of exploring the nature of citations that Information Science literature receives from the literature published in other disciplines. This sort of analysis reveals the level of citation impact that Information Science literature contributes to the advancement of knowledge in other disciplines. The present research is led by one main research question: What is the "nature" of citations that highly cited papers appearing in the Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (JASIST) receive from citing papers published outside the Information Science field? The present study uses two citation contextual measures to define and determine the nature of citations: citation functions and citation textual properties, including citation location, citation frequency, and co-citation frequency. Citation context analysis was selected as the research method. Highly cited JASIST papers were assumed to represent Information Science literature for the purpose of the present research. Citation contexts of highly cited papers were used as a "radioactive tracer" to investigate the contributions of Information Science literature to other disciplines. A detailed citation classification scheme was constructed to identify functions and roles of citations. Results of implicit and explicit analyses of citation contexts showed that citations convey different meanings, serve different purposes, and all citation functions are not of equal significance. It was also demonstrated that the nature of citations may vary across a wide spectrum of different functions and roles, with different impact levels on the theme of citing papers. Citation functions showed a significant association with all three textual properties, including citation location, frequency of citation occasion and co-citation frequency. The high rate of citations within Information Science journals (74.7 percent) indicates that highly cited JASIST papers are cited extensively in other Information Science journals. This rate drops to 25.3 percent for publications outside of Information Science. An investigation of the nature of the contributions of highly cited papers to other disciplines shows that the vast majority of citations (80 percent) convey "reviewed" or "perfunctory" functions. Furthermore, for 51 percent of citing papers, the impact level of highly cited JASIST papers was ranked "low" or "relatively low". The disciplines to which Information Science mainly contributes include Computer Science, Psychology, Education, Business, and Communication. The present research concludes that Information Science literature is yet to have a major theoretical or methodological impact on other disciplines. At the conceptual level, the Citation Pyramid Model was suggested to provide a common ground for both normative and constructivist theories. This model shows that both theories can be intertwined and act complementarily rather than as mutually exclusive theories to explain such an internal and complex phenomenon as citation motivations.<br>La science de l'information est un domaine interdisciplinaire qui interagit avec d'autres à travers ses frontières intellectuelles.

Abstract:
While many historical articles and chapters on the foundations of Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) have painted an accurate picture of the field, it has been 21 years since anyone has given emphasis to the relationships of influence among IDT scholars. Many have written on various elements of the field, emphasizing events according to their own experience, which have increased our overall understanding of IDT. However, without insight on the connections between these pieces, the field appears to be only a broad array of isolated silos, each filled with its own research interest. This research sought to discover IDT's genealogy of influence. Three main research questions were asked: "Currently, who are the most influential scholars in IDT?" "Who influenced today's most influential scholars?" and "What ideas were most influential in the scholars' relationships?" The ten most influential names in IDT were discovered, and their genealogies of influence were traced. The ideas that were most influential in the relationships between theorists were summarized into the following groups of fields: General Education, IDT (and its contributors), Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology, and Adult and Higher Education. This research found an IDT field that was very diverse but very connected. Another important result was much less expected: the prevalence of psychology as a significant influence on both past work and current big ideas. Implications are discussed, such as revising definitions of the field.

Abstract:
This thesis seeks to demonstrate that the new facilities of Web of Science (WoS) online can be used in new ways to enhance understanding of scholarly communication. It investigates four aspects of scholarly communication: characteristics of highly cited articles, citation levels of collaborative articles, citation levels of multi-disciplinary articles, and patterns of annual citation of highly cited articles. For the first two topics it investigates the WoS category of ‘Information Science & Library Science’ (IS&LS), whereas for the other topics it compares diverse WoS categories in science and social science. Although its main data source is WoS, its investigation of disciplinarity also uses Scopus. The thesis finds: (a) Highly cited IS&LS articles tend to be multidisciplinary and cited late, but are not necessarily first-authored by influential IS&LS researchers, (b) Amongst un-cite IS&LS articles the proportion of collaborative articles has remained almost constant over the past three decades whereas for higher cited articles it has grown steadily with time, (C) In social science subjects the level of citation of multi-disciplinary research are generally similar to that of mono-disciplinary research, whereas in science the citations levels for multi-disciplinary research are substantially lower than that of mono-disciplinary research, and (d) In both science and social science many very highly cited articles continue to be heavily cited more than twenty years after publication. This thesis also introduces and uses an indicator for measuring the extent of collaboration called ‘average partner scores’ and indicates a way in which the subject categories of WoS can be investigated without requiring a licence for the WoS database. Finally, it identifies and addresses some of the technical problems of using WoS online to investigate scholarly communication.

Big Data on cities and regions bring new opportunities and challenges to data analysts and city planners. On the one side, they hold great promise to combine increasingly detailed data for each citizen with critical infrastructures to plan, govern and manage cities and regions, improve their sustainability, optimize processes and maximize the provision of public and private services. On the other side, the massive sample size and high-dimensionality of Big Data and their geo-temporal character introduce unique computational and statistical challenges. This chapter provides overviews on the salient characteristics of Big Data and how these features impact on paradigm change of data management and analysis, and also on the computing environment.<br>Series: Working Papers in Regional Science

Abstract:
The reasons given by thirty-three junior high school band directors for success and failure at the University Interscholastic League Concert/Sightreading Contest were studied using the methodology of Attribution Theory. All of the subjects attended the same contest and were members of a region which included urban and suburban schools. The subjects responded to a questionnaire which evaluated their attitudes towards the contest, allowed them to make judgments about other directors in hypothetical contest situations, and finally asked them to list the five most important reasons for their success or failure at the contest in an open-response format.

Abstract:
This study employs the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to understand the role of attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control on students’ intent to orally cite sources using complete, rather than partial, citations. Undergraduates (N = 326) enrolled in general education oral communication courses completed a self-report survey testing the TPB variables and students’ citation intentions. Findings demonstrate that subjective norms and perceived behavioral control predict student intention to cite sources and do so completely. Tensions between credibility gains and time constraints are also evident. Implications for teaching students in basic courses about oral citations are discussed.

This article aims to clarify the central commitment and the claimed advantages of enactivism, a theoretical approach for understanding the mind. The analysis reveals that there is no compelling reason to embrace either the enactivists' aim of completely revolutionizing vision science or their understanding of the character of that new vision science. There are also numerous serious empirical and conceptual problems for even the more modest enactivism. This article discusses enactivist responses to empirical evidence cited as posing difficulties for enactivism and considers areas of neuroscience deemed highly relevant but that remain unconsidered by enactivism.

Doctors view the best relationship with patients in highly personal and idealistic terms, admitting through discussion of their own experiences that sustained interpersonal relationships with many patients are difficult to establish. For doctors, interpersonal trust with their patients looms as the central feature of strong, effective relationships. The ability to relate to patients on deeper psychological and emotional levels was the key focus for them in their work. They also cited other roles, such as friend and expert advisor, as important in gaining patient trust. Doctors’ views and their best patient relationship experiences emphasized the benefits of dyadic care delivery, even as the notion of the relational dyad finds less support within health care, given over instead to higher volume, transactionally oriented care relationships between organizations and patients.

Abstract:
The highly successful first edition of Neighborhoods and Health (published in 2003), coedited by Ichiro Kawachi and Lisa Berkman, is one of the most highly cited texts in the field of neighborhood health research. However, the methods and substantive research have changed a great deal since it was published more than a decade ago. Although research connecting neighborhoods and health has been conducted for many years, research in neighborhoods and health (also known as spatial epidemiology) has indeed exploded in the last few years in particular—both in terms of content and newer methodological approaches, including the use of global positioning systems (GPS) technology to define “activity space neighborhoods.” Each chapter of this book will cover major theories and insights from the accumulated wealth of new research on neighborhoods and health. The book also covers emerging areas in neighborhoods and health research, including chapters discussing neighborhood stigma, as well as on neighborhood home foreclosures.

Abstract:
A sociolinguistically oriented study of polysynthesis literature reveals one rather striking observation. Varieties often cited as being incontrovertibly polysynthetic include languages from many different language families and different areas of the world. But many of these languages have a number of social characteristics in common: they are spoken in relatively small, traditional, non-industrialized communities, over relatively small territories. This chapter suggests that this is not a coincidence. There seems to be considerable agreement in the literature, for instance, that polysynthetic languages are ‘highly’, ‘extremely’, or ‘extraordinarily’ complex. And the literature on polysynthesis abounds in descriptors referring to their complexity as ‘exuberant’, ‘unusual’, ‘spectacular’, ‘baroque’, ‘rich’, ‘daunting’, and ‘startling’. This tallies nicely with the suggestion (Trudgill 2011) that linguistic complexity is particularly associated with relatively small, isolated, stable communities which have dense social-network structures; and is relatively unlikely to be found in large, high-contact (for example urban, colonial, standard) language varieties.

Abstract:
Contaminated sediments represent an ongoing threat to the health of aquatic ecosystems. The assessment of sediment quality is, therefore, an important concern for environmental regulators. Sediment quality guidelines are now well established in regulatory frameworks worldwide; however, practical guidance that covers all of the key aspects of sediment quality assessment is not readily available.&#x0D; In 2005, CSIRO published its highly cited Handbook for Sediment Quality Assessment. In the ensuing period, the science has advanced considerably. This practical guide is a revised and much expanded second edition, which will be a valuable tool for environmental practitioners.&#x0D; Written by experts in the field, it provides coverage of: sediment sampling; sample preparation; chemical analysis; ecotoxicology; bioaccumulation; biomarkers; and ecological assessment. In addition, detailed appendices describe protocols for many of the tests to be used.

AbstractDetermining the scientific footprint of a given author is not easy, as many bibliometric metrics exist and none can capture the full extent to which someone has fed the field with knowledge and changed the course of science. Using existing databases (Web of Science and iCite from the National Institute of Health), we tried to capture the impact of the work of Richard P. Baum over the last four decades. His works led to over 11,000 citations in the literature with highly cited articles, even when using the latest more valid practice of comparing the relative citation ratio that captures the scientific productivity independent of the field of study.

AbstractCritics have targeted the quality of professional knowledge in policymaking, suggesting that education policy should draw on the best research evidence. This chapter examines the institutional responsiveness to this critique. The authors analyze the use and translation of knowledge sources in Norwegian policy documents on a recent school reform for basic education in Norway. A bibliometric analysis and an in-depth inquiry of the documents reveal the most often co-cited references and their argumentative use as evidence. They conclude that the reports bring together systems of reasoning that in practice are highly differentiated but in policy are aligned with each other. Moreover, evidence serves an inter-mediational role by shaping policy options connecting both policy realms and systems.

Abstract:
AbstractRegression testing is an important activity to check software changes by running the tests in a test suite to inform the developers whether the changes lead to test failures. Regression test prioritization (RTP) aims to inform the developers faster by ordering the test suite so that tests likely to fail are run earlier. Many RTP techniques have been proposed and are often compared with the random RTP baseline by sampling some of the n! different test-suite orders for a test suite with n tests. However, there is no theoretical analysis of random RTP. We present such an analysis, deriving probability mass functions and expected values for metrics and scenarios commonly used in RTP research. Using our analysis, we revisit some of the most highly cited RTP papers and find that some presented results may be due to insufficient sampling. Future RTP research can leverage our analysis and need not use random sampling but can use our simple formulas or algorithms to more precisely compare with random RTP.

Abstract Trust is regularly cited as one the main barriers for increased adoption of cloud computing, however conceptualisations of trust in cloud computing literature can be simplistic. This chapter briefly introduces the trust literature including definitions and antecedents of trust. Following an overview of cloud computing, we discuss some of the cited barriers to trust in cloud computing, and proposed mechanisms for building trust in the cloud. We present a high-level framework for exploring assurance (trust building) and accountability (trust repair) in the cloud and call for a more integrated multi-stakeholder approach to trust research in this multi-faceted context.

Abstract:
Abstract For some years, conventional 2¼Cr1Mo grade is less and less used for the fabrication of heavy refining reactors and is progressively replaced by 2¼Cr1MoV grade which offers much better mechanical properties at high temperatures. This change also offers large benefits on hydrogen resistance due to large differences in hydrogen solubility, diffusion and trapping behaviour between the two grades. Focusing more deeply on differences between the two previously cited grades, it appears that 2¼Cr1MoV offers an important gain in terms of hydrogen resistance but has also a very complex behaviour, strongly depending on charging method used to introduce hydrogen in material. Trapping and diffusion behaviours are particularly different when hydrogen is introduced using autoclave charging (gaseous hydrogen as in refining industry), using sour service environment (aqueous hydrogen sulphide as in gas treatment industry) or using cathodic charging. This paper proposes to explain the differences between the two previously cited grades when facing gaseous and aqueous hydrogen and then the consequences on fracture performance. This demonstration is based on actual hydrogen diffusion and solubility laws measurements associated to different kinds of mechanical tests.

Macdonald, Kier. Financing for Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises in Kenya. Institute of Development Studies, 2025. https://doi.org/10.19088/k4dd.2025.006.

Abstract:
This rapid evidence review assesses the recent academic and grey literature on the topic of financing for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Kenya . The literature reveals a dearth of highly-cited papers on the topic, and while there are a number of studies which are positive on the effectiveness of different types of financing on the performance of MSMEs, there is scope for further literature which engage with the potential risks or problems associated with different financing methods. The literature demonstrates that the landscape for MSME financing in Kenya is relatively fragmented, with commercial banks dominating lending to MSMEs, but with a growing number of other lenders such as microfinance banks (MFBs), savings and credit cooperative organisations (SACCOs), and unregulated microfinance institutions (MFIs) and informal lenders.

Full text
Abstract:
This report presents findings on the experiences of small businesses seeking credit from online lenders, based on data from the 2021 Small Business Credit Survey (SBCS). According to findings, firms that apply to online lenders are more likely to be newer and have fewer employees, lower revenues, and weaker credit scores. In addition, Black- and Hispanic-owned firms are more likely than white- and Asian-owned firms to report that they applied to an online lender. Furthermore, contrary to prior SBCS findings, online-lender applicants were less likely than bank applicants to be approved for the full amount of financing they sought. Generally, online-lender applicants reported lower overall satisfaction with their lenders than did bank applicants. Overall, approved applicants cited fewer challenges with their lender experiences than did applicants that were denied. The only exception was at online lenders, where approved applicants were more likely than denied applicants to cite challenges with high interest rates and unfavorable repayment terms.

Abstract:
A relatively small number of countries have an explicit “Feminist Foreign Policy” (FFP). Those most often cited are Sweden, Canada, France, Mexico, and Spain. In theory, an FFP moves beyond gender mainstreaming in foreign development assistance to include: (1) a wider range of external actions, including defence, trade and diplomacy (2) a wider range of marginalised people, not just women. Within foreign development assistance, it implies a more coherent and systematically institutionalised approach to gender mainstreaming. In practice, those countries with an explicit FFP implement it in different ways. Canada currently focuses on development assistance, France on development assistance and formal diplomacy, Sweden more comprehensively covers the trade and defence policy arenas. Mexico and Spain are yet to produce detailed implementation plans. There is increasing academic interest in FFP, but most analyses found during the course of this rapid review focus on narrative content of policies rather than impact. Policy advocacy and advice is provided by several high-profile advocacy organisations. National government agencies in Sweden, France and Canada have produced some evaluations of their FFP, but the evidence is weak. There are many international institution evaluations of gender mainstreaming for many different sectors that are context-specific.

Full text
Abstract:
As Latin America and the Caribbean bounce back from a sanitary crisis of historic proportions, the search is on for policies that can accelerate recovery while boosting long-term growth. In a scenario of tight fiscal constraints, trade and integration (T&amp;I) policies seem to fit this description. There are particularly high expectations in some policy circles that the benefits of T&amp;I policies will be boosted by an impending reorganization of global value chains. Yet little is known about the relevance, shape, and impacts of this reorganization. Will this lead to reshoring, nearshoring, or some slightly modified version of the status quo? Will this benefit the region? This paper takes a stab at answering these questions. It begins with a critical review of the most frequently cited drivers of the reorganization. This is then followed by an analytical exercise that uses the 20182019 US import tariff hike as a quasi-natural experiment. The results seem more consistent with modest trade and investment gains for the region, associated with incremental rather than major adjustments to global value chains. It concludes by arguing that whatever the future brings, minimizing trade and investment costs is likely to remain the regions dominant strategy.

Sen, Jozef. Calm Spaces: A Strategic Intervention for Enhancing Wellbeing, Inclusion, and Psychological Safety. Sheffield Hallam University, 2025. https://doi.org/10.7190/steer/calmspaces.

Full text
Abstract:
The Calm Spaces Initiative at Sheffield Hallam University was developed in response to increasing demand for accessible, preventative mental health and wellbeing interventions embedded within everyday campus environments. Grounded in a Theory of Change framework, the initiative integrates sensory-friendly, emotionally regulating resources - such as posters and digital media -into high-traffic and reflective university spaces. Co-produced by Student Wellbeing Services, Hallam Students’ Union, and informed by research into student mental health, neurodiversity, and wellbeing promotion, Calm Spaces aims to reduce barriers to support, foster emotional self-regulation, and contribute to a psychologically safe campus culture. This initial evaluation report outlines how the Calm Spaces Initiative is expected to contribute to improved mental wellbeing for students and staff across Sheffield Hallam University. The report also summarises evidence of user engagement and feedback as well as reflections of the project lead about successes and the next steps of the initiative. Early evaluation evidence suggests the initiative has achieved high visibility and positive reception among students and staff, with qualitative feedback highlighting its accessibility, practicality, and particular benefit for neurodivergent individuals. The simplicity and unobtrusiveness of the design were cited as strengths, enabling discreet access to wellbeing prompts without the need for formal help-seeking. Calm Spaces aligns with national strategies promoting a whole-university approach to mental health, and aims to contribute to broader institutional outcomes including improved wellbeing, enhanced academic engagement, and greater retention. While recognising that long-term impacts will depend on the cumulative effects of multiple interventions, Calm Spaces demonstrates how small, thoughtfully designed environmental modifications can play a critical role in building a compassionate, inclusive learning and working environment. Future developments include expansion across additional campus sites, digital enhancements, and a more formalised programme of longitudinal evaluation to measure sustained outcomes.

Abstract:
In this bibliometric study, we analyze the six battery research subfields identified in the BATTERY 2030+ roadmap: Battery Interface Genome, Materials Acceleration Platform, Recyclability, Smart functionalities: Self-healing, Smart functionalities: Sensing, and Manufacturability. In addition, we analyze the entire research field related to BATTERY 2030+ as a whole, using two operationalizations. We (a) evaluate the European standing in the subfields/the BATTERY 2030+ field in comparison to the rest of the world, and (b) identify strongholds of the subfields/the BATTERY 2030+ field across Europe. For each subfield and the field as a whole, we used seed articles, i.e. articles listed in the BATTERY 2030+ roadmap or cited by such articles, in order to generate additional, similar articles located in an algorithmically obtained classification system. The output of the analysis is publication volumes, field normalized citation impact values with comparisons between country/country aggregates and between organizations, co-publishing networks between countries and organizations, and keyword co-occurrence networks. For the results related to (a), the performance of EU &amp; associated (countries) is similar to China and the aggregate Japan-South Korea-Singapore and well below North America regarding citation impact and with respect to the field as a whole. Exceptions are, however, the subfields Battery Interface Genome and Recyclability. For the results related to (b), there is a large variability in the EU &amp; associated organizations regarding volume in the different subfields. For citation impact, examples of high-performing EU &amp; associated organizations are ETH Zurich and Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science.

Kelley, Allyson, Brighten Crawford, Morgan Witzel, et al. Spirituality in the Workplace: A qualitative study of spiritual practices of a small woman-owned research and evaluation company. Allyson Kelley & Associates PLLC, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.62689/cx0hnl.

Full text
Abstract:
Workplace spirituality has been defined as a framework for organizational values that is part of the culture, connection, and future. AKA is a small woman-owned, spirit-led business. Our mission and vision direct us toward programs, research, evaluation, and communities that match our values, theories, and interests. Because spirituality is essential for wellness, well teams, and well communities, we designed this study to explore AKA team member views about spirituality and how they incorporate spirituality in their work. The following research questions to guide this study: 1) What are some spiritual practices of AKA team members? and 2) How do spiritual practices influence the inner self, outer self, and team/clients? Methods: Data for this study were collected from AKA Associates with Zoom interviews from May 2023 to July 2023. Interviews were audio recorded, transcribed using Otter.ai, cleaned, and coded using thematic analysis. Results: The research team contacted twelve AKA associates; nine were eligible to participate. Two were male, and seven were female. The thematic analysis revealed three major workplace spirituality themes: beliefs, practices, and experiences. Spiritual beliefs varied among the team. Many cited a belief in God or a higher power. Others mentioned goodness, altruism, and a Divine connection to the path they are on. Practices have to do with the outer self and what we do, what we see, and what we hear. AKA associates’ practices vary from prayer, journaling, forgiveness, burning sage, being in nature, attending church, having joy, gratitude, and involvement in church/faith communities. AKA associates talked about their varied experiences, including service, generosity, empowerment, grounding, integrity/accountability, advocacy, and authenticity. Discussion: This qualitative study found that beliefs, practices, and experiences create connections and enduring relationships. Within the AKA team, beliefs varied about spirituality. Some believed in a Creator or God; others talked about a higher power, goodness, or nothing. Spirituality in the workplace has the potential to improve the health and well-being of employees and clients served. Spiritual beliefs vary within individuals and organizations; what is most important is the experiences that result from a spiritual orientation. When personal, organizational, and spiritual values align, growth, creativity, and innovation happen.

Full text
Abstract:
The goal of this work was to understand the role of the enzyme sucrose synthase (SuSy) in synthesis of cellulose and callose in plants. The work resulting from the this grant leads to a number of conclusions. SuSy clearly plays diverse roles in carbon metabolism. It can associate with the plasma membrane of cells undergoing rapid cellulose deposition, such as cotton fibers, developing maize endosperm, gravistimulated pulvini, and transfer cells of the cotton seed. It is also concentrated at sites of high callose deposition (tapetal cells; cell plates). When SuSy levels are lowered by mutation or by anti-sense technology, cell walls undergo degeneration (maize endosperm) and show reduced levels of cellulose (potato tubers). In sum, our evidence has very much strengthened the concept that SuSy does function in the plasma membrane to channel carbon from sucrose via UDP-glucose to glucan synthase complexes. Soluble SuSy also clearly plays a role in providing carbon for starch synthesis and respiration. Surprisingly, we found that the cotton seed is one unique case where SuSy apparently does not play a role in starch synthesis. Current evidence in sum suggests that no specific SuSy gene encodes the membrane-associated form, although in maize the SS 1 form of SuSy may be most important for cell wall synthesis in the early stages of endosperm development. Work is still in progress to determine what does control membrane localization - and the current evidence we have favors a role for Ca2+, and possibly also protein phosphorylation by differentially regulated protein kinases. Finally, we have discovered for the first time, a major new family of genes that encode the catalytic subunit of the cellulose synthase of plants - a result that has been widely cited and opens many new approaches for the study of this important plant function.

Fitzpatrick, Rachael, and Helen West. Improving Resilience, Adaptation and Mitigation to Cimate Change Through Education in Low- and Lower-middle Income Countries. Institute of Development Studies, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/k4d.2022.083.

Full text
Abstract:
Climate resilience is the ability to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to hazardous events, trends, or disturbances related to climate (C2ES, 2022). Mitigation focuses on reducing the human impacts contributing to climate change (Burton, 2007, cited in Rousell &amp; Cutter-Mackenzie-Knowles, 2020). Adaptation is about increasing people’s adaptive capacity, reducing the vulnerability of communities and managing risks (Anderson, 2012). Anderson further defines adaptation as not just being able to adapt from one stable climate to another but having the skills to adapt to uncertainty and make informed decisions in a changing environment. While ‘climate change’ is the term used throughout these briefs, it should be read as a shorthand for a more inclusive approach, which also captures associated environmental degradation. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warned, in their latest report, that global surface temperatures will continue to increase until 2050 (IPCC, 2021, p. 17). This will take place regardless of human intervention to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The report also warns that the traditional technocratic approaches are insufficient to tackle the challenge of climate change, and that greater focus on the structural causes is needed. High- and upper-middle-income countries have been persistently shown to be the biggest contributors to the global carbon dioxide emissions, with lower income countries facing the most disruptive climate hazards, with Africa countries particularly vulnerable (CDP, 2020; IPCC, 2021). The vulnerability of low-income contexts exacerbates this risk, as there is often insufficient infrastructure and resources to ensure resilience to climate hazards (IPCC, 2021). For decades, advocates of climate change education have been highlighting the potential of education to help mitigate against climate change, and support adaptation efforts. However, implementation has been patchy, with inconsistent approaches and a lack of evidence to help determine the most effective way forward. This paper is divided into three sections, drawing together evidence on the key aspects of system reform, green and resilient infrastructure and Curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and teacher development.

Abstract:
The purposes of this mixed-method study were to (i) investigate and compare the perception of academic plagiarism of Thai postgraduate students from interdisciplinary studies; (ii) verify and compare the students’ actual practice of plagiarism; (iii) examine and justify contributory factors influencing plagiarism; and (iv) estimate and construct alternative measures for plagiarism prevention in the Thai context. The findings were as follows: (1) the quantitative analysis of 196 students’ perception, comprising awareness and knowledge, of plagiarism based on two main fields of study—science and social sciences—from interdisciplinary studies and groups of high achievers and limited achievers was found to have no statistically significant difference at the .05 level; (2) no significant difference in 153 students’ actual practice of plagiarism was determined when analyzed based on their field of study. However, with the levels of English-language proficiency-based analysis, a significant difference in actual practice of plagiarism was found between the average writing-test score of the high-achiever group (63.26) and that of the limited-achiever group (30.95) at the .05 level (t = -13.74, p &lt; .05); (3) contributory factors influencing plagiarism, derived from responses from 196 learner-evaluation-forms, 48 instructor/ administrator questionnaires, and six student and 19 teacher interviews, were relevant to affective-psychological and environmental-situational constructs; and (4) the practical measures for plagiarism prevention in the Thai context were rated for “having very strict policies, rules, and practices to avoid plagiarism” (45.80%), “teaching how and when to cite sources” (43.80%), “raising students’ awareness of the values of academic honesty” (33.30%), and “having students write an annotated bibliography” (16.70%), respectively. Alternative measures for plagiarism prevention are also presented.
