The morphological characterization and phylogenetic analysis based on molecular methods were executed on the freshwater Hildenbrandia specimens collected in this study. The cell size and filament height of the specimen collected from Pipa Lake, Japan were larger than the widely recognized species Hildenbrandia angolensis and Hildenbrandia rivularis, whereas overlapped with Hildenbrandia jigongshanensis. Based on molecular evidences of rbcL phylogenetic analysis and comparison of ITS1 secondary structure, specimen collected from Shiga Prefecture, Japan was proposed as a new species Hildenbrandi

Haloes of encrusting algae, mostly Hildenbrandia, and cyanobacteria were found on the home scars under the shell of Patella vulgata, beneath the pallial cavity. The presence and area of halo varied between sites. Area generally increased with limpet size and at one site was negatively associated with slope of the shore. It is suggested that the algae provide a resource and may, therefore, play a role in the foraging ecology of the limpet.

Abstract:
Rock pools are unique and complex habitats in intertidal areas. Quantitative studies of assemblages in pools are few. Abundances and distributions of species in pools on a rock platform near Sydney (Australia) were sampled for two years. Pools of four different depths (5, 15, 30 and 40 cm deep) and up to four strata within each pool (0–5, 5–15, 15–30 and 30–40 cm, from the top of the pool) were sampled, replicated at four sites. The abundances and distributions of most species of plants and animals in pools did not differ between strata nor at different depths in the pools. Abundances of only

The characteristics of the Strait of Magellan promote the formation of unique environments, with diverse habitats and marine organisms. This fragmentation of the landscape generates diverse little-explored ecological associations, especially in the zone of sub-Antarctic islands of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. One way to address this lack of knowledge is through the biotope characterization methodology, with ecological units composed of the habitat and the communities associated with these environments, obtaining data and information on the dominant and incidental taxonomic groups. A new lichen species of Leptogium sect. Mallotium, L. saxatile Makryi is described. The peculiarities of ecology and geographic distribution of the species are discussed. It is pointed out that six hairy species of Leptogium occur in Baikal Siberian Region: L. asiaticum P. M. Jorg., L. burnetiae C. W. Dodge, L. furfuraceum (Harm.) Sierk, L. hildenbrandii (Garov.) Nyl., L. saturninum (Dicks.) Nyl. and L. saxatile, but five species ― in Mongolia. Key to these species of Leptogium is provided.
