Autour de 1950, des artistes londoniens – Kenneth Martin, Mary Martin, Adrian Heath, Anthony Hill – adoptent l’abstraction géométrique, suivant l’exemple de Victor Pasmore, célèbre jusqu’alors pour sa peinture figurative.
