First report of Hippodamia variegata (Goeze 1777) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) in Peru. The first record of Hippodamia variegata (Goeze 1777) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) in Peru is reported, which also constitutes the highest record of the species. This introduced species is already established in the rest of the continent, but its presence in Peru is confirmed in this contribution. A distribution map and a key to distinguish the two species of this genus present in Peru are presented.

Abstract:
Mating involves the transfer of sperm to females. Female reproductive investment is based on gamete numbers as well as gamete size. Females are more selective than males and this selection is based on numerous factors, like a male’s age, sexual status and familiarity. Hippodamia variegata (Goeze) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) is an important natural enemy of many insect pests such as aphids, psyllids, whiteflies and mealybugs in many countries. We investigated female mate choice in Hippodamia variegate caging females with: (i) a young and a middle-aged male, (ii) a virgin and mated male and (iii

Abstract:
Intraguild predation among arthropod predators in agricultural ecosystems may have a negative impact on biological control. At present, there are few direct reports on trophic relationships among participants of predation in field groups. In this study, we measured the feeding choices of Hippodamia variegata (Goeze) towards mummies with different densities of Aphis gossypii Glover. The dynamics of the occurrence of mummies in the cotton field were investigated over 2017–2019. Singleplex PCR and multiplex PCR were used to detect the predation of 2090 H. variegata individuals on aphids and mummi

Natural enemies use odors to find prey in nature. The use of plant volatiles to attract natural enemy insects and promote their feeding on pests has great potential for practical application in integrated pest management. Of the 28 materials tested, ethyl benzoate, octyl formate, methyl jasmonate, and methyl dihydrojasmonate were significantly attractive to H. variegata. We tested the ladybeetle’s behavioral responses to three concentrations of the compounds (100, 10, and 1 µg/µL) and found that high and medium levels were both attractive to H. variegata. An inventory of ladybirds was carried out in cereal fields in Zaghouan over three years to evaluate their seasonal apparition and their efficiency in decreasing aphid populations. Only two species, Coccinella algerica and Hippodamia variegata were identified. The delegation of Mograne was the most populated by ladybirds (64%). As the main result of the correlation analysis, the relationship between ladybirds and temperature was strong, especially during 2018 and 2019. The frequencies of morphs differed among years and seasons, and the number of individuals was more considerable with the aphids

Abstract Quantifying responses of three congeneric species of lady beetles, Hippodamia parenthesis (Say), Hippodamia convergens (Guerin), and Hippodamia variegata (Goeze) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), to abiotic factors that influence their seasonal biology provides an understanding of the phenology of these species in North America. The developmental response and the induction and duration of adult hibernal diapause in four North American populations of H. parenthesis, collected between 40° N and 44° N latitude, was determined when beetles were reared at four photoperiods (L:D 16:8, 14:10, 12;

Ello puede implicar un cambio en el ensamble de coccinélidos a favor de las especies exóticas, lo que podría deberse a ventajas relativas en variables relacionadas con el ciclo de vida, la fecundidad y sobrevivencia.
