Abstract:
The question of the finest structure of nerve cells over the past years has attracted the attention of many histologists and neuropathologists. In this direction, very interesting studies have already been carried out in various types of invertebrates and vertebrates, and only regarding birds, as far as I know, there has not yet been more or less detailed research on this topic. True, in the works of some authors there are brief references on this issue, but there are very few such references and these works relate almost exclusively to the period preceding the last studies by Nissl and other authors, who shed new light on the structure of nerve cells.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the history of the formation and development of the Rostov branch of the Scientific Medical Society of Anatomists, Histologists and Embryologists (SMSAHE) of Russia. The Rostov branch of the society originates from the Scientific Society of Anatomy and Anthropology, the first meeting of which took place on September 15, 1921. The leading role in the formation of the branch belongs to the graduate of the Military Medical Academy, Head of the Department of Normal Anatomy of the Don University (currently Rostov State Medical University), Professor Konstantin Yatsuta. Honorary members of the society were well-known Russian anatomists - professors Vladimir Vorobyov, Pyotr Karuzin, Vladimir Tonkov and Viktor Shevkunenko. At all stages of the activity of the scientific society, the continuity of generations, the preservation and enhancement of knowledge in the field of anatomy and histology can be traced. The scientific achievements of the members of the department during the centuries of history are reflected. The main scientific areas of activity of the Rostov Department in different periods were comparative, age and veterinary anatomy, histology and embryology, the study of the cardiovascular system in health and in some diseases, as well as the anatomical variability of organs using modern methods of medical imaging. Throughout the years of work, representatives of the Rostov branch took an active part in the work of the All-Union, and then the All-Russian Congresses of Anatomists, Histologists and Embryologists, scientific international conferences, congresses, symposiums, developed international cooperation in the field of morphology. Over the years of work of the Rostov branch of the SMSAHE, an authoritative school of morphologists has been formed. The 100th Anniversary of the Rostov branch of SMSAHE is celebrating, having highly professional medical personnel, four full professors, seventeen docents, three candidates of medical sciences. Pupils of the Rostov Anatomical School subsequently headed the departments of anatomy in many cities of Russia and of other countries. At present, several generations of scientists work in the staff of the Rostov branch of SMSAHE, which ensures the continuity of generations.

Abstract:
Physiology has not yet given us positive data on the function of the sympathetic nervous system. Only recently, histologists have been able to prove that the nerve cells located in large sympathetic nodes do not differ in their morphological properties from cells of the central nervous system. This gives the right to assume that in the sympathetic nodes there are independent centers that are in the same dependence on the higher centers, as, for example, the centers of the spinal cord from the brain. We have very little data on the relationship of the sympathetic nervous system to the innervations of the bladder. On this basis, the author began to study this issue in the physiological laboratory of prof. Pavlova at the M. Academy.

Abstract: In the literature, several features have been c1aimed as useful in predicting the metastatic potential of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). However, there is disagreement on which parameters would be most important, and a quantitative analysis of some is lacking. This study investigates which histological features of the primary tumor might be more significantly associated with lymph node metastases, with particular emphasis on the mode of invasion in the tumor-host interface. Forty two cases of OSCC ressected with cervical lymph nodes were selected, 20 of which had nodal metastases and 22 which had not. The mode of invasion in the tumor-host interface was c1assified as: I pushing borders, 11 - bands, 111 - thin cords, IV - single cells and analysed in 20 consecutive medium power fields. Also studied were thickness of the tumor, tissue eosinophilia, perineural and angiolymphatic invasion, intensity of the inflammatory infiltrate at tumor host interface and desmoplasia. The majority of the cases (95.2%) showed two or more modes of invasion. Modes I, 11 and m occurred with similar frequency in cases with and without metastases. Mode TI was the commonest and most extensive in both groups. No mode of invasion was significantly associated with metastases, independent of its extension. The other histologic parameters were also not significantly associated with cervical metastasis, except tumor thickness. Tumors with thickness between 4 - 8 mm were si~nificantly less associated with metastases (23%) than those over 8 mm thick (60%). In conc1usion, OSCC usually shows two or more modes of tumor invasion if a large extension of tumor-host interface is analysed. However the relative proportions of the modes of invasion and the other histologic parameters studied have no correlation with the metastatic potencial, except tumor thickness

Abstract: We did a experimental study with miniprosthesis of silicone, comparing two specific covers, elastomer and polyurethane; observed the histologic responses each one, with comparative analyses. We used 144 miniprosthesis with two mililiters of silicone gel, 77 with polyurethane cover and 77 with elastomers coveF in 36 rats. Each animal received four prosthesis, two of poliurethane cover and two of elastomer cover . The animaIs were observed for 2, 5, 8, 11 months. During that time they stayed in the bioterio and after were 'sacrified and the material analysed by optic microscopy. We conclued that miniprosthesis with< polyurethane cover, had the active tissular and celular responses, with giant cells, cronic inflamatory process and anarquic disposition of colagen fibers. In the capsula we observed the specif material, like the poliuerathne crystal. The elastomers cover results in the stable celular and tissular responses, and the linear disposition of colagen fibers

Smith, Benjamin. "Which lung cancer histologies are associated with emphysema on chest computed tomography?" Thesis, McGill University, 2012. http://digitool.Library.McGill.CA:80/R/?func=dbin-jump-full&object_id=106284.

Abstract:
BACKGROUND: Multiple studies have demonstrated increased risk of lung cancer in the presence of emphysema, independent of smoking history and airflow obstruction, but the relationship of emphysema to specific histologic subtypes remains uncertain. OBJECTIVE: To determine the extent to which emphysema on chest computed tomography (CT) is associated with lung cancer histology. METHODS: Cross-sectional analysis of consecutive lung cancer patients referred to the Jewish General Hospital was performed (2001-2009). All those with demographic data, smoking history (pack-years), documented histology and chest CT were included. Emphysema was graded on CT by three readers, using a standardized rubric. Odds of each lung cancer subtype were compared between patients with and without emphysema, and adjusted for age, sex and smoking history by multiple logistic regression. RESULTS: Complete data were available for 498 lung cancer patients (mean age 68 years; 221 [44%] female; 78 [16%] never smokers; 263 [53%] without emphysema on CT). The most common histologies were adenocarcinoma (242 [49%]), squamous (71 [14%]), undifferentiated (48 [10%]) and small cell carcinoma (42 [8%]). The remaining 19% included bronchioloalveolar, large cell, pleomorphic and basaloid carcinomas. Presence of emphysema was associated with increased odds of squamous (OR 3.1 95%CI 1.8-5.3) and small cell (OR 2.1 95%CI 1.1-4.1) carcinoma. After adjustment for age, sex and smoking history, emphysema was associated with squamous (OR 2.7 95%CI 1.5-4.9) but not small cell (OR 1.5 95%CI 0.8-3.1) carcinoma. CONCLUSIONS: Relative to other histologic subtypes, the odds of squamous carcinoma were significantly increased among lung cancer patients with emphysema after adjustment for smoking history. This was not true of small cell carcinoma, although confidence intervals were wide so an association cannot be entirely excluded. Other common subtypes were not independently associated with emphysema.

Abstract: There are many different points of view on the trauma occlusion influence in periodontal disease. This research paper has the aim of verifying the histological alterations in the periodonto in rats as the consequence of a trauma occlusion and a periodontal disease. For this. purpose, 60 male rats were made used of having a weight ranging from 200 to 250 grams. The rat were then divided into three groups. Group I received a cemented surface on the first molar tooth by adding a self polymerizing resin to the occlusal surface. Group II received a silk thread around the first lower molar tooth so as to bring about a marginal irritation, and Group III received the resin and the marginal irritative material. The rats were killed after 6, 11, 16 and 21 days and the area of the first molar tooth were then histologically analysed. It was noticed that the occlusal traumatism was not enough to bring about gingivitis. As to the irritative material, an atrophy through compressive stress and infiltrated inflammation were noticed. After 16 days, an osseous reabsortion was noticed and, after 21 days, a paraqueratose was noticed indicating a tooth restoration process. To conclude, it was noticed that, the association of the trauma occlusion with peridontal disease, there was an accelerated ulcerative process of the epithelium wich could already be noticed after 6 days. After 16 days an epithelial regeneration process of paraqueratose occurred.
