It provides an in-depth examination of their first phase in the earliest days and their development throughout their history up until the time of the famous reciter Ibn al-Jazari. This thesis challenges traditional accounts of the history of state secondary schooling in Western Australia. Most existing explanations of mass secondary schooling have theoretical weaknesses. These weaknesses relate to the liberal democratic conceptual framework that views the development of state secondary schooling as the gradual realisation of the values of democracy, equality and progress. Berthe Morisot was one of the founders of the French Impressionist movement in the nineteenth century. However, she is not researched with the same level of respect as her male Impressionist counterparts. Scholars often rely on her biography to analyze her artwork, compare her to other women artists, or briefly mention her accomplishments in a generalized history of the French Impressionist movement. This dissertation scrutinizes a corpus of films considered to be the stylistic and thematic descendants of Yasujiro Ozu, which I call “feeling of life films.” Focusing upon common themes such as female narrative and the portrayals of the quotidian, this dissertation identifies various methods used in specific films of Ozu, Hou Hsiao Hsien, and Tran Anh Hung that complicate narrative meaning and engage in the discourse of national modernity and history.
