Abstract:
The study is devoted to the development of the national school system in the Soviet state in 1946–1950 on the example of Ulyanovsk Region. The relevance of the study lies in the fact that in the current realities in the Russian Federation, it is necessary, within the framework of reforming activities in the field of education, to find an effective option for transforming the national school into an institution with a high-quality level of educational services to representatives of non-Russian nationalities. The problem is analyzed on the basis of archival sources drawn from the funds of the State Archive of Contemporary History of the Ulyanovsk Region (SACH UR) and the State Archive of the Ulyanovsk Region (SAUR), for the first time introduced into scientific circulation, as well as regional periodical materials. We conduct a retrospective analysis of the condition of the school premises, their equipment with educational literature, visual aids, and also examined the state of the level of students’ education and teaching methods in national and Rus-sian schools of the Ulyanovsk Region. It is concluded that the authorities in the Ulyanovsk Region were able to lay a solid foundation for the further development of the education system.

Abstract:
Research on second-language (L2) speech acquisition suggests that audio-visual aids could be effective in helping learners acquire difficult L2 speech sounds (Li, 2016a). However, most previous studies have been restricted to laboratory settings rather than the classroom environment. The present study, therefore, was designed to fill this knowledge gap by analysing the effectiveness of audio-visual aids, particularly articulatory gestures, in teaching L2 speech sounds in actual classrooms. The participants were students from two classes of non-English majors who had severe difficulties with the differentiation of /θ/–/s/ and /ð/–/z/. ‘Read-aloud’ tasks were employed for pronunciation tests. The baseline data of the students’ pronunciation of the two contrasts was collected with a pre-test, and the intuitive–imitative approach was adopted for teaching. Specifically, the students were exposed to seven audio- or audio-visually recorded poems (one poem per week over the course of seven weeks) containing the target contrasts. The students in Class 1 were taught with the audio-recordings without images of the speaker’s face being displayed; in contrast, students in Class 2 were taught using audio-visual recordings, which allowed them to observe the speakers’ articulatory gestures of /θ/–/s/ and /ð/–/z/. To detect the teaching effect, a post-test was carried out after the teaching programme was completed. A delayed post-test was conducted one month after the post-test. Comparisons with the respective pre-test results indicated that students in Class 2 had a significant improvement in the pronunciation of the target contrasts in the post-test, whereas those in Class 1 did not. In the delayed post-test, neither class showed any significant difference in the pronunciation performance in comparison with the post-test. The findings, therefore, confirmed the effectiveness of exposure to audio-visual aids in teaching L2 pronunciation.

Abstract:
Objectives: Different teaching aids are advocated in the medical colleges for delivery of lectures such as power point presentation, blackboard, transparency sheet, overhead projectors, extempore and lecture sheets .The aim of our study was to compare the more acceptable teaching methods between the students of Dhaka Medical College and Enam Medical College. Materials and Methods: Total one hundred students were selected from fourth year in each medical college. They were asked to fill in a fourteen item questionnaire about their perception of five lecture delivery methods. Questionnaire was properly explained. The results were analyzed separately to find out any differences between preferences of teaching methods in both medical colleges. Results: In DMC 50% students preferred traditional blackboard method ,25% PowerPoint presentations, 5% both blackboard and PowerPoint, 16% extempore and 4% lecture sheet .On the other hand, in EMC, 53% mentioned PowerPoint presentation as most acceptable, 38% blackboard, 5% combined blackboard and PowerPoint and 4% extempore. Some important comments were recorded which could be valuable for the medical teachers. Conclusion: The study showed that students of DMC clearly prefer traditional blackboard method rather than other teaching aids, whereas students of EMC prefer PowerPoint presentation. The study does not bring out any evidence based superiority of any lecture delivery method. It appears that any teaching aid can be appropriate and effective if the teachers are properly trained. This highlights the need for formal training in teaching technologies for good presentation and thus motivate the students. Abstract:
Introduction. In the process of bilingual education, schoolchildren must not only qualitatively master the content of the subject but also overcome language difficulties. There is a connection between speech and mathematical activities. The essence and structure of bilingual mathematical competence are based on this relationship, allowing bilingual students to effectively acquire knowledge in the conditions of national-Russian bilingualism. We have also proposed ways of forming bilingual mathematical competence focused on developing mathematical speech culture and teaching schoolchildren to use multicultural knowledge. Aim. The article aims to characterize the pedagogical conditions directed at the emergence of bilingual mathematical competence among basic school students (grades 5 to 9) within national-Russian bilingualism. Material and methods. The study relies on theoretical methods of comparative analysis, synthesis, and generalization provided by the scientific and methodological literature on the researched topic. Results and discussion. Works indicating a clear relationship between the language of instruction and the subject of Mathematics were analyzed. The need to take into account the mother tongue of schoolchildren in bilingual education was established. In addition, it was found that the degree of native and Russian language proficiency affects the mathematics achievement of bilingual students. According to the analysis, bilingual education should lead to the emergence of competencies distinguished by a high level of language proficiency and high-quality mastering of the subject. Conclusion. The concept of “bilingual mathematical competence” got a detailed description in the course of the research. This concept combines components of a school subject, languages ( native and Russian), and a component of intercultural communication. The following pedagogical components were described: 1) tasks aimed at mastering terminology, symbols, and graphic images; verbal and logical constructions of the mathematical language; written educational texts; 2) illustrated Yakut-Russian, Russian-Yakut terminological dictionary in mathematics for the 5th and 6th grades, which includes 349 terms and set phrases; 3) bilingual strategies aimed at reducing the linguistic complexity of mathematical problems (by replacing unfamiliar or rare words; changing the passive voice to active verb forms; reducing long names and indications; highlighting individual conditional sentences, or changing the order of the conditional and main sentences; replacing complex questions to simple ones; clarification of abstractions using more specific information); 4) methods and techniques of bilingual teaching of mathematics (consecutive translation, visual aids, immersion teaching, semantization); 5) tasks that contain historical, ethnocultural, and local history materials.

Abstract:
This research article explores the teachers’ roles in reducing L1 (First Language) interference in audio-lingual classrooms. The main concern of the audio-lingual method is to focus less on grammar and teaching it inductively. There is also an emphasis on pronunciation in this method. Using tapes, visual language aids, and new materials are presented in an interactive model. The teacher presents a new structure using communicative models, and there is less focus on L1. The study applies a qualitative case study and uses observation and interview data collection techniques in a particular primary school of Malaysia during the English language sessions. The thematic analysis technique is performed to categorize the significant findings into three main themes: teacher as a role model, teacher as an orchestra leader, and teacher as a motivator. The data from classroom observation is triangulated to determine how the data is closed to the interview. The finding shows the problematisation of using L1 in teaching L2 (Second Language) since the interference of L1 negatively impacts learning L2. The study contributes to the perspective that English teachers in audio-lingual classrooms are expected to understand their objective roles. The result also implies the teachers' significance to accept that using L1 in maxim spoils learning L2, especially in an audio-lingual classroom.

Abstract:
The research objectives of this paper are to compare the activities which have been prepared in the design of field trips from the perspective of teachers and museum educators, as well as to describe the use of resources and materials from the point of view of educational agents. The research method is quantitative, based on the study of a descriptive comparative cross-sectional survey. The participants are 442 teachers of early years, primary and secondary education, visiting two archaeological museums with their class groups in order to carry out an activity relating to the subject of history. The data collection tool was the MUSELA© questionnaire. The main results show that 60% of the teachers state that they prepare some kind of activities and 70% use some resources within the design of a field trip to an archaeological museum. On the other hand, 94.4% of the museum educators carry out activities using resources in the museum visit. The main conclusion is that the activities which are most used by teachers and educators in the museum (experimentation and artistic workshops, audio-visual observation and viewing tasks and debates or sharing) and by teachers in the classroom space (audio-visual viewing) do not guarantee research activities, analysis or reflection activities.

Abstract:
Language is not just a tool for communication. It is also a resource for creative thought, a framework for understanding the world, a key to new knowledge and human history, and a source of pleasure and inspiration. The Connections Standard is about linking language and literature study to other disciplines (for example, art, music, film, history, among others) and about getting students to experience unique viewpoints available only through a particular language and its cultures. This presentation will argue for the importance of analyzing texts (written, oral, visual, audio-visual) in language teaching. The goal is to give students the chance to position themselves in relation to distinct viewpoints and distinct cultures and to make connections between language and other symbolic ways of making meaning, connections between language and other disciplines, and connections between language and culture. These connections are not easy to make, but they are essential if we are to prepare our students for the broadest range of language use and allow them to achieve their full communicative potential.

Abstract:
The application of modern technology represents a significant advance in contemporary English language teaching methods. Indeed, Mohammad Reza Ahmadi (2018) maintains that electronic teaching programmes have become the predominant preference of instructors since they arguably boost positive student engagement with teachers and incentivize overall English language learning. Most contemporary English language teachers now actively incorporate a range of technological aids designed to facilitate optimum teaching delivery. The current research therefore addresses various elements of the technology used in English teaching by devising innovative curricula which harnesses recent scientific and technical developments, equip instructors with the technological skills to ensure effective and quality subject delivery, provide technical media such as audio-visual and modern technical programmes, and create student-teacher platforms which maximize positive language learning outcomes. For the purposes of this study, the relevant literature has been reviewed, technology defined linguistically and conventionally, and correlation with modern teaching skills fully evaluated. In light of this, the researcher outlines the fundamental research problem, elucidates the significance of the research objectives and hypotheses, and presents the findings. The paper concludes by offering a number of recommendations which may further contribute to the improvement of teaching methods by advancing the widespread application of modern technology.

Abstract:
Over the past few years, there has been a growing interest in the teaching and learning of several languages in an attempt to generate multilingual education opportunities, particularly in Europe. In response to the demands of our globalized society, Content-Based Instruction (CBI), which has also been referred to as “immersion and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) programs,” emerged as a teaching approach that combines the learning of curricular contents and the communicative competence in the target language. This study was carried out at a public high school set in a Spanish bilingual community, where music is taught through a CLIL approach in English class. The purpose of this paper is to examine how students value their music lessons in English and to check the adequacy of teaching music as a subject in English. To achieve this goal, materials adapted to their level of proficiency and a final questionnaire were designed. Results indicate that students are satisfied with this proposal, since they consider these music lessons to be easier than the regular ones. Not only did they enjoy being exposed to English in these music lessons, but a considerable number of students would also like to take a CLIL program in the near future. Pedagogical implications to this CBI model account for the development of learners’ autonomy, the use of audio-visual aids and further research in bilingual and multilingual regions overseas.

Abstract:
Exploring ways of learning foreign language grammar using video content in secondary education is relevant because most research focuses on other educational levels and rarely takes into account student and teacher assessments. In addition, the vast majority of studies deal with the theoretical aspects of foreign language grammar learning at school. Accordingly, there is a need for empirical studies that focus more on secondary education and the nature of teachers and students' perceptions of such issues. This determined the relevance of the article. The aim of the study is to establish the effectiveness of the use of audiovisual materials as a tool for learning a foreign language. As a result, was determined the assessment of teachers and students' feasibility of introducing video content in the process of learning grammar of a foreign (English) language. The main methods in the study were methods of experiment and interviewing; also, the method of questioning was used. The main hypothesis is that the introduction of video content as teaching material for learning foreign languages is an effective method of teaching, positively evaluated by all participants in the educational process. The results of the study show that the introduction of films as teaching material in the educational process contributes to the teacher's willingness to use video content for their lessons, the understanding of all participants in the educational process of the benefits of using audio-visual materials is improved; the performance increases. Increasing the level of methodological skill and awareness gained through personal experience encourages improvement of the learning process, awareness of the need to use the completely rich arsenal of modern methods and forms of language teaching. In the future perspective is the study that the use of audio-visual content as didactic material is not only a means of learning a language, but also a factor in improving critical thinking skills, a sense of social justice, awareness of art, in particular, history of the culture.

Abstract:
The study was conducted to examine the challenges of content coverage of chemistry textbooks in due time allocation in the National Curriculum and the students’ perception of the teaching practices of teachers at secondary schools. Two research questions were constructed; to what extent, the curriculum of Chemistry in terms of ‘content coverage has been implemented in public schools with special attention to theoretical and practical aspects of contents distributed term wise? How teachers teach chemistry content both theoretically and practically in classrooms? To find out the answer to these questions, the survey method was applied. One questionnaire was prepared for teachers while students were interviewed to understand their perception about teaching practices. Quantitative data was collected in the first phase while students were interviewed in the second phase. The sample comprised of 97 teachers (56 male and 41 female teachers) teaching Chemistry to secondary level students and 27 students (15 boys and 12 girls). Percentage and mean score were calculated against the responses of teachers taken through the Likert scale. Open-ended responses from students were presented in paragraph form after generating themes for descriptions. Major results included; one teaching period was insufficient for content coverage of 9th and 10th classes to cover theoretical and practical aspects of the course of chemistry. Apart from teaching periods, extra periods for practical work should be allocated in time table to complete the theoretical and practical work at the secondary level. It was suggested that all teachers who teach chemistry must be familiarized with the use of supporting materials like audio-visual aids for practical work to enhance the learning of students

Abstract:
Dievturība (dievturi - "God keepers", "people who live in harmony with God") is a newly created religious tradition having appeared in the second part of the 1920s – 1930s, its most essential source includes materials of Latvian folklore and folk traditions. These are interpreted by construing a religious ethical theory and creating a religion which is alternative to Christianity, with its own doctrine and rituals, and the conception of Latvianness in culture and politics. Latvianness is the most essential concept of cultural politics to which all activities of the dievturi are subjected (exaltation, family celebrations (krustabas, vedības (marriage), bedības (funeral)) as well as seasonal rituals, cultural historical excursions, tidying and spiritual restoration of the sacral sites (sacred places, castle mounds), folklore activities, article publications in mass media, summer thematic camps in the countryside marked by intensive mastering and cultivation of history and culture, celebration of Latvian public holidays and the most important remembrance days. Contemporary dievturi groups are seeking for new ideas in order to develop and popularize their conceptions, which can partly be characterized as a cultural political programme for theoretical (doctrine) and practical (exaltations, ceremonies, seasonal rituals) realization of Latvianness and its components. Within this publication, creativity means the system of ideas and values that promotes the development and perspectives of dievturi groups as well as includes them into a wider cultural political environment thus performing a culture-creating job. A special attention is paid to the essential ideas and values guiding the creativity of contemporary Latvian dievturi groups, making ample use of storyteller habitus, thus intentionally allowing the domination of group participant discourse. The two main directions of dievturi group participant creativity are the development of their doctrine (teaching) and the ritual practice (exaltations). These directions allow to attract wide attention of the society and mass media, new participants and supporters, to influence the political and cultural processes in Latvia. An important part in the doctrinal reflections of the dievturi, especially in the ritual practice (exaltations), has always been taken by Latvian literature writings. A selective choice of these supplement the textual canon of the dievturi continuing the tradition in line with “the mood of Latvian folk songs” and attributing a more modern shape and world outlook concepts to dievturi undertakings. The aim of an exaltation is always associated with the main cultural political concept of the dievturi – Latvianness, namely, to make Latvianness more active, to offer an opportunity to approach Latvianness, make efforts for deeper comprehension of it, being aware and living through it, although thematically it may be dedicated to separate components of Latvianness (people, land, language, God, Māra, Laima, work, virtues, human life, and the like). Also, the most essential ideas and values of dievturība – gender equality, domesticity, antiglobalism, ecology, traditional marriage formula, life style and appearance, environment (for example, use of Latvian language), music, art and literature priorities (classical and/or national music, use of local building materials and ornaments (all ornaments have been observed in Latvia’s nature), writers, poets and playwrights who most precisely depict the “Latvian spirit” – derive from folk songs and the cultural concepts deriving thereof. Activity in the field of Latvianness (ethnicity conception) is in accord with the activity in favour of the future of the Latvian people, symbolical non-forgetting of culture correspond to generating of culture. This attributes a political and social dimension to the cultural activity of dievturi. Dievturība does not perform an official cultural politics of cultural values, heritage, traditions etc., this is a task for politicians; however, it is at least a marginal participant of the cultural political sphere. Placing ethnicity, or the Latvian discourse, at the centre of cultural politics encompasses the range of further impact when the seeming encapsulation within the margins of culture are replaced by reflections on Latvian economy, guidelines in education and science, health care system, axiological juxtaposition of the countryside and city. Also, the evaluation and criticism of the activity of the Christian Church by the dievturi is connected with the conception of Latvianness. Dievturi strongly disclaim Christianity and any chance of mutual cooperation (and also vice versa), protest against its monopoly position in Latvian society, consider Christianity a historically alien religion having been forced upon Latvians and demanding the status of a traditional religion in Latvia also for dievturība including, for example, the right to wed, to celebrate religious festivals. The results of field research do not allow to speak about dievturība today as a strong and united manifestation of Latvian religious experience and way of life. Rather, it is possible to register (after the decline of the movement at the end of the 1990s and at the beginning of the 2000s) a quite consistent and sufficiently active revival which is connected with the appearance of new persons and creative ideas among Latvian dievturi. The future events depend on the fact whether dievturi themselves would be able to solve the protracted inner inconsistencies and find a uniting grounds for further development of the movement. The article is based on the study results obtained during the 2006–2008 field research carried out in dievturi groups (interviews with group leaders, participants and individual representatives, transcripts of audio and video materials). The study was carried out with the financial support of the project “Society and lifestyles” and using its accepted methods – ethnographic description, semi-structured interviews and methods of visual anthropology (photography, filming) and instructions by the Ethical Commission (for example use of assumed names for storytellers).

Abstract:
Abstract Background and Aims Hyperphosphatemia is frequently encountered in hemodialysis patients and is an important risk factor of cardiovascular diseases. It is usually difficult to be managed by phosphate binders and hemodialysis. This study was carried out to assess the effect of nutritional education (NE) on the control of serum phosphorus level in hemodialysis patients. Method An open label, single center randomized controlled trial was conducted in the nephrology department, New Mansoura General Hospital, Egypt. One hundred hemodialysis patients were randomized into two groups; intervention Group (IG) (n=50) subjected to NE program for 3 months and Control group (CG) (n=50) received the usual care. Nutritional education was applied for the intervention group, by a trained renal dietitian, in the form of educational sessions, booklets, procures, audio visual teaching aids and patient-tailored counselling. Nutritional evaluation was done for all patients using dietary history, 24 hour diet recall sheet and malnutrition inflammation score (MIS) in addition to assessment of anthropometrics measurements and routine laboratory tests before randomization and at the end of the study. Results Three months after randomization, body mass index, waist circumference and midarm muscle circumference (MAMC) were significantly lower among IG versus the CG (p=0.04, 0.04 and 0.004 respectively). MIS score was significantly lower among the IG compared to the CG (p=0.02). Regarding laboratory tests, serum phosphorus level and calcium X phosphorus product were significantly lower among IG compared to the CG at the end of the study (p<0.001 and =0.04 respectively) with a percent change of serum phosphorus of -13.8 ± 21.41 after NE. The percentage of patients with hyperphosphatemia (> 5.5 mg/dl) were significantly lower in the IG at the end of study (p=0.04). Other laboratory tests including serum albumin, hemoglobin level, iron status and urea reduction ratio did not show any significant difference between both groups. Conclusion NE applied to dialysis patients added to the control of hyperphosphaemia without exposing the patients to the risk of malnutrition, resulting from injudicious dietary restrictions.

Abstract:
The study aims to determine the effects of audio-visual aids on the performance of nursery school pupils in alphabet reading in Sokoto metropolis. The study sets out three research objectives, three questions, and two hypotheses. The study adopted a survey design method. All Nursery school pupils in Sokoto metropolis form the population of the study. A purposive sampling technique was used to select two schools (New Dawn and Nagarta College) to participate in the study. New Dawn and Nagarta College were respectively allocated to experimental and control groups through balloting. An intact class from each of the two schools was used for the study. An achievement test instrument was developed by the researchers, validated by experts. To ensure the reliability of the instrument, a pilot study was conducted and a reliability index of 0.94 was obtained using KR-21. The research questions were answered using descriptive statistics, and the two hypotheses were tested using independent sample t-test statistics. Results from the study reveal that the treatment was effective in improving pupils’ academic performance. It was also found that there was a significant difference between the academic performance of the pupils taught using audio-visual aids and those taught the same using the conventional approach in favour of those exposed to the treatment. The study concludes that pupils’ poor academic performance could be a result of poor utilization or inadequacy of instructional media. Therefore the study recommends that Schools management should make audio-visual aids available for effective delivery in the instructional processes, and schools authorities concerned should encourage teachers to make efficient use of the audio-visual teaching aids during the instructional process.
