Abstract:
Acoustic and archival tags examined freshwater and marine migrations of postspawn steelhead kelts ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ) in the Ninilchik River, Alaska, USA. Postspawn steelhead were captured at a weir in 2002–2005. Scale analysis indicated multiple migratory life histories and spawning behaviors. Acoustic tags were implanted in 99 kelts (2002–2003), and an array of acoustic receivers calculated the average speed of outmigration, timing of saltwater entry, and duration of residency in the vicinity of the river mouth. Ocean migration data were recovered from two archival tags implanted in kelt

The fluorescently-labeled DNA is widely used in various bioanalytical applications. For a number of applications, a high level of labeling could be beneficial. One of the ways to produce DNA fragments bearing multiple fluorescent tags is to use polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with primers heavily labeled with fluorophores. Here we tested how primers with multiple fluorescein tags perform in PCR. It has been found that the positioning of fluorescein tags at or near the 3'-end upon primer multiple labeling can inhibit DNA amplification (up to a complete stop when tags are placed at the 3'- or ad

In this work, we explore applying a link prediction approach to tag recommendation in broad folksonomies. The original idea of the approach is to mine the dynamic of the tagging activity in order to compute the most suitable tag for a given user and a given resource. The tagging history of each user is modeled by a temporal sequence of bipartite graphs linking tags to resources. Given a target user and a target resource, we first compute a set of similar users. The tagging history of the identified set of users is merged in one temporal sequence on bipartite graphs. The obtained sequence is us

Knowledge of fish habitat use and connectivity is critical for understanding the structure and dynamics of fish populations and, therefore, necessary for the implementation of successful fisheries management strategies. Tagging is an effective means of providing such information, and the elemental composition contained within fish otoliths is increasingly being used as a natural tag. The chemical composition of otoliths reflects the incorporation of elements from different water bodies and can thus be used to understand the habitat use, movements, and life history patterns of fishes. Unsuccessful cement plug costs oil companies considerable amount of capital both in extra rig time and service company expenses. Suggested procedures for placing cement plugs have been presented in number of papers - comprising of slurry design, spacer recommendations, laboratory testing and placement techniques. However, it is very easy to deviate from these standard practices due to over confidence, negligence or both.
