Abstract:
The subject of my master thesis is searching for overlaps of both dancing and drama where the means of artistic expression in terms of the performer?s integrity play the key role. The aim is to find and define the crucial points in the art evolution which have been further developed by artists in both drama and dancing. The aim is also to point out the overlapping of genres which either adopted or integrated features of other artistic fields. This master thesis is a follow-up of my bachelor thesis with the main subject being ?movement and voice?. The aim is to pick up the threads of my bachelor thesis dealing with the integration of voice in the contemporary dance and its detailed specification. The source of information are not only the post-modern as well as contemporary artists, but also looking back in the history of modern dance evolution. Vital part of my thesis is a description of my pedagogical experience at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava which summarizes my knowledge acquired during the lessons of Modern dance and Dancing Education.

Keywords:Dramatic culture, psychosomatic disciplines, vocal pedagogy, psychosomatic approach of vocal education, qualitative research, introspective observation, case study, skeleton analysis, pedagogical competences, vocal grounding of pedagogues The author places the vocal study to wide context of dramatic culture education. In this context she recapitulates her personal experiences of this kind of education, she points out the benefit of this study for the development of pedagogical competences. The work mainly presents the psychosomatic approach of vocal education whose guarantor and creator, in the Department of Authorship and Pedagogy at the Theatre Faculty of Performing Arts in Prague (KATaP DAMU), is college lecturer Libuše Válková. The principles of psychosomatic approach to the vocal development were used and approved by the author within her education activities for Czech Orff Associaton (Česká Orffova společnost) and at St. John´s College ? Teacher Training College (Svatojánská kolej VOŠPg). The vocal pedagogical process is monitored on the basis of reflections - introspective observation. The statements written by students of the Department of Authoship and Pedagogy and St. John´s College deepen our understanding of the vocal education process. This point of view is ensembled by the case study of a teacher who, thanks to professional lead, succesfully solves her vocal problems (The study contains DVD exemplification of the vocal education lesson.) The mentioned knowledge and experiences are the base for conceiving of new subjects - Vocal and Speech Education and Vocal Grounding - which are placed in undergraduate teachers? training

Abstract:
In 2009 we hold anniversaries for many composers, for example G.F.Händel, Henry Purcell, J.Haydn and Felix Mandelssohn-Bartholdy. In this abundance of celebrations we should not overlook the 50th anniversaryof Bohuslav Martinů´s death. Czech composer B. Martinů ( 1890 - 1959) was one of the most prolific composers of the 20th century. He was born and grew up in Polička . In 1923 he left his country of birth to study with Albert Roussel in Paris, where he lived for the next 17 years. In 1941 he emigrated to the States, fleeing the German invasion of France. He wrote for leading American orchestras in the following decade. He became homesick bud he never returned to his homeland. Martinů spent his later years in Switzerlandand and he died at age of 69 in Liestal. He wrote almost 400 pieces ( symphonies, operas, ballet and a large number of orchestral, chamber, vocal and vocal- instrumental works). His Epic of Gilgamesh, Field Mass, The Opening of the Wells, and his operas Julietta and The Greek Passion are highly regarded. His music displays a wide variety of influences ( expressionism, constructivism, hazz) and often reflects sensitivy to Czech folk music. Ot is characterized by the freedom of its melodies, the vigor of its rhythms, and the transparency of its textures. This diploma thesis deals of Martinů ´s little known one-act radio opera The Voice of the Forest ( Hlas Lesa). The libretto of the opera is written by the czech poet Vítězslav Nezval. This short experimental work was written specifically for radio performance in 1935. It called for a good articulation and different treatment of dramatic time than would be typical for a staged work. In contrast to the wildy extravagant libretto, the music is fine, lyric and tonal, expressing the characters ´emotions without irony, but with neverending optimism.

This thesis clarifies the elementary terminology on the field of the voice and voice disorders, deals with the problem of voice formation and the function of voice-forming organs and addresses the issue of the influence of voice possibilities and its variability on the artworks. The author of the thesis tries to answer the question why the voice quality and option variability is so decisive for her work. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter explains the elementary knowledge about voice, the voice-forming organs necessary for voice expression, basic qualities of human voice and its development. The second chapter outlines the issue of voice disorders. The ones mainly described in detail are those which the author of the thesis is subjected to. These disorders are closely related to the artwork analysed in the third chapter. The third chapter addresses the way and level of voice influence over the artwork. The voice variability allowing one's self-reflection through various ways is the key topic. Voice options, their use and artwork impact are also discussed.

Abstract:
The human voice holds a significant position in works of Arnold Schönberg. My dissertation focuses on the use of a voice technique, the so-called Sprechstimme (Spoken-voice) in the musical piece Pierrot Lunaire, op. 21 (1912). I confront the term Sprechstimme with the term Sprechgesang (Spoken-singing) in the very opening of my study. In addition, Schönberg's use of human voice in the pieces written before Pierrot, are briefly mentioned. I am peripherally exploring the other melodramas written by Schönberg, namely Ode to Napoleon Buonaparte, op. 41 (1942) and A Survivor from Warsaw, op. 46 (1947) at the conclusion of this dissertation. I am clarifying why the author has chosen this type of voice technique and also where it is used in musical and aesthetical contexts. I explain the term Sprechmelodie (Spoken-melody) in the area of analysis and focus on the composer's approach to the text material in the ambit of rhythmical component, articulation, dynamics, agogic and the verbal directions for the narrator. Sprechstimme represents one of two fundamental composers approaches towards the human voice and becomes some sort of parallel to the purely vocal composition attitude during the composition time.

Abstract:
[Truncated abstract] Erythropoietin (Epo) is a glycoprotein hormone involved in the formation of erythrocytes, by controlling survival, differentiation and proliferation. The technique of cDNA Representational Difference Analysis was utilized to investigate J2E-NR cells that demonstrate a viability response to Epo, but not differentiation or proliferation. The aim of this project was to identify genes that may be upregulated in response to Epo-induced survival; however, no change in gene expression was detected. This was most probably because any changes were below the limit of detectability for the cDNA RDA technique, or the viability effect was mediated post-transcriptionally. Next, it was decided to investigate HLS5, a putative tumour suppressor that was identified in a myeloid variant of the J2E cell line and had been shown to cause apoptosis. A number of HeLa cell lines inducible for Hls5 expression using the tet-off system were produced; despite extremely low expression, Hls5 was shown to produce marked suppression of growth and proliferation, particularly in colony assays colony size and numbers were halved for one induced clone. … A number of haemopoiesis-associated genes were downregulated (viz. globin genes and the Epo receptor gene), which suggested Hls5s role in the myeloid variant of J2E cells, may be to suppress genes expressed in the erythroid lineage. In addition, several interferon-responsive genes were decreased in cells with elevated HLS5, suggesting it may play a role in negatively regulating interferon signaling. Online databases were also searched for information on HLS5, and showed that it is significantly downregulated in liver, lung and uterine cancers, supporting the proposition that HLS5 is a tumour suppressor gene. In summary, a number of approaches were taken to identify the effects of the Hls5 protein. It appears that it strongly suppresses proliferation and that this is likely mediated through an effect on mitosis. This may also result in apoptosis of overexpressing cells. It is possible that this is the mechanism through which HLS5 exerts its potential tumour suppressor function, as a number of tumour suppressors appear to be associated with mitosis/apoptosis control. Hls5 is also likely to have other functions in haemopoietic cells, which includes downregulation of erythroid-specific genes and suppression of interferon responses.

Everyone who develops hardware wants to do this as fast as possible and for low costs. Time to the market must be shortened because the competition is very substantial. This can be done by using special development software called high level synthesis tools. HLS tools automatically generate HDL RTL code and helps developers to get all possible architectures of project. HLS tools use an algorithmic C code as input information. There is the possibility for software engineers to develop hardware too. It seems that HLS is very good technology, but HLS tools are not widely used today. It must be found the reasons of this problem and opportunities how this problem can be solved. An experiment is made by solving this problem. A GSM LPC algorithm is written by hand from C description to VHDL RTL. This experiment explains problems of high level synthesis. With the purpose HLS tools to use widely, high level of abstraction (C/C++) code must be written with restrictions. There must be no pointer variables and pointer arithmetic, no recursion, no difficult operations, no dynamic memory allocation. Engineers have to think like hardware.

Pressented master´s thesis reflects a personal quest of voice pedagogy for dance pedagogues titled: Voice education for dance pedagogues. It derives from a drill based artistic evvironment and it deliberately branches off to a path towards vocal expression being discovered primarily through human needs. The author presents a belief, the cornerstone of any pedagogical work with a "fragile" human being is an environment of mutual trust and confidence, which only can offer a safe place and enough space for rehearsing. It is this perspective the thesis is being processed and deliberately presented. The quest of authorial approach towards the student the author had undergone represents a paralel to the existential form she had captured in previous bachelor?s thesis under the title: Author´s existence, or a path from a stage to children´s playgrounds.

Full text
Abstract:
The main aim of the work reported in this thesis is to gather experimental evidence of the relationship between HLAS (Linear Alkylbenzene Sulphonic Acid) phase changes and binding performance in detergent granulation. In order to fulfil this goal a novel micromechanistic apparatus, the EC-MFB (Environmentally Controlled Micro Force Balance), capable of characterising binder-particle interactions, such as contact angles and liquid bridge adhesive forces, in an environmentally controlled glove box, has been designed developed and commissioned. Linear alkylbenzene sulphonic acid (LAS acid or HLAS) is a reactive binder used in industrial detergent granulation processes. The neutralisation of HLAS with sodium carbonate particles during granulation generates Sodium Linear Alklybenzine Sulphonate (LAS-Na), one of the world’s most used anionic surfactants for washing powder formulations. The reaction neutralises HLAS to increasing degrees, depending on the amount of acid reacted to form the salt. During granulation the binder has the dual function of forming physical links between the particles and participating in the neutralisation reaction to form LAS-Na. Both HLAS and LAS-Na have been found to be highly hygroscopic. The experimental investigation described here is aimed at establishing whether the extent of HLAS neutralisation and the binder water content influences the wettability and adhesive strength of individual liquid bridges holding particles together during the granulation process. HLAS being a reactive binder , the characterisation of the wetting and adhesive behaviour is complicated by their strong dependency on the kinetics of the binder-powder reaction. Hence, a novel approach to reactive binder studies is presented here, with the experiments carried out using inert particles and acid that has been partially pre-neutralised with Na2CO3. Contact angle and spreading velocity measurements show that the higher the degree of neutralisation the lower is the tendency of the liquid to wet the particles. Moreover, it will be shown that particle wetting is strongly dependent on binder water content and relatively humidity (RH). A “sticky regime map” is presented as a function of neutralisation and water content distinguish between wetting and non-wetting conditions. This highlights the importance of controlling the environmental conditions, both during the granulation process and the storage of the product materials.

Abstract:
Considering the demand for high-performance in computer systems, the implementation of algorithms directly in hardware by using FPGAs (Field-programmable Gate Arrays) is an alternative that has shown good results. However, the number of developers is limited due to the challenges faced for efficiently programming FPGAs. In addition to that, developers are more used to the traditional sequential programming paradigm imposed by the imperative languages. This work seeks to develop mechanisms to facilitate the development with FPGAs, by optimizing memory usage and exploiting the parallelism of operations inside a loop. This document presents the doctoral thesis entitled LALP+ : a framework for developing FPGA-based hardware accelerators. Since the latency for reading and writing data have been a bottleneck for high performance applications, this work deals with the development of techniques for generation of hardware architectures, considering aspects related to mapping, management and memory access in reconfigurable architectures, using as basis the LALP language, which focuses on the treatment of loops with the technique of loop pipelining. The techniques described in this thesis are employed in the development of the LALP+ framework, which extends LALP by implementing new features and functionalities, in order to contribute to increase its abstraction level. LALP+ architectures were compared to ones generated by using academical and commercial tools, having presented, on average, better performance, with a execution time speedup of 10;01 for the best case. Thus, it is expected that the hereby presented contributions facilitate the implementation of products and projects related to high-performance computing applications with reconfigurable architectures, contributing for the use of such technology.

Abstract:
This dissertation introduces a novel approach for exposing the internal, source-level expressions of circuits generated by high-level synthesis (HLS) for in-circuit debug. The approach uses source-to-source transformations to instrument specific source-level expressions with debug ports. These debug ports allow a user to connect a debugging instrument (e.g. an embedded logic analyzer) to record the activity of the expression corresponding to the debug port. This dissertation demonstrates that a debugging solution based on these source-to-source transformations is feasible and that individual debug ports can be added for a cost of a 1-2% increase in circuit area on average. It also introduces another transformation that permits pointer-valued expressions to be instrumented for debug. It is demonstrated that all pointers in the CHStone benchmarks can be instrumented for an average 4% increase in circuit area. The debug port transformations are demonstrated on two HLS tools – Vivado HLS and Legup. The architecture of the source-to-source compiler allowed the necessary adaptations for the second tool (Legup) to be implemented using a minimal amount of additional code. Due to limitations in the Legup compiler an additional optimization was added to reduce the latency overhead incurred by the debug ports. User manuals and other documentation from 10 additional C-based HLS tools is examined to determine whether they are amenable to debug instrumentation using the source-to-source transformations. Of the 10 additional HLS tools examined, 6 were amenable to the transformations, 3 were likely to be amenable, and 1 was not. This dissertation estimates the cost of a complete debugging solution (i.e. one with debug ports and a debugging instrument) and identifies a possible worst case bound for adding debug ports. Finally, this dissertation analyzes two different debugging instruments and determines which instrument would be best for most HLS circuit mapped to FPGAs. It then estimates the overhead of this debugging solution.

Whether it's capturing a car's license plate on the highway or detecting someone's facial features to tag friends, computer vision and image processing have found their way into many facets of our lives. Image and video processing algorithms ultimately tailor towards one of two goals: to analyze data and produce output in as close to real-time as possible, or to take in and operate on large swaths of information offline. Image convolution is a mathematical method with which we can filter an image to highlight or make clearer desired information. The most popular uses of image convolution accentuate edges, corners, and facial features for analysis. The goal of this project was to investigate various image convolution algorithms and compare them in terms of hardware usage, power utilization, and ability to handle substantial amounts of data in a reasonable amount of time. The algorithms were designed, simulated, and synthesized for the Zynq-7000 FPGA, selected both for its flexibility and low power consumption.

The digitalization leads to that many physical solutions are replaced by digital once. Especially in the surveillance and security business have humans been replaced by cameras which are monitored from a remote location. As the power of the computers has increased, live video can be analyzed to inform the controller about anomalies which a human eye could have missed. SAAB – Air Traffic Management has a digital solution to provide Air Traffic Service which is called Remote Tower. This project will come up with a recommendation on how SAAB can dynamically render overlay based on live video, which marks the runways and taxiways on the airfield.

Abstract:
The first part of this work focuses on ways to replace missing source voice in case of patients after total laryngectomy. The commonly used methods of voice rehabilitation are mentioned. Simple computational models are used to explore several principles of generating artificial source voice. Based on the knowledge of how a healthy human voice is generated, one of the ways to generate artificial source voice was chosen – a reed-based element in the configuration (-, +). The function of the reed-based element is based on a periodic bending of the reed and in the airflow cutoff created by this motion. The (-,+) configuration of the reed-based element causes a different behaviour, when compared to healthy vocal folds, important is, however, whether the generated acoustic signal has the right spectral characteristics, which enable the generation of voiced vowels of the human speech. Both experimental and computational models are used to study the behaviour of the reed-based element. The design of the experimental model is based on the preliminary experiments with simple reed-based elements, which were carried out at the beginning of my studies. The new experimental model is designed in such a way, that it enables changes to the reed geometry and its position towards the reed stop. The measurements carried out on the experimental model are mainly acoustical (measurements of the generated acoustical signal), but optical measurements of the reed´s movement and position are possible and used as well. Because of the nature of the reed-based element´s behavior, the fluid structure interaction must be taken into consideration in the computational model. A two-way model of fluid structure interaction is used between the fluid part of the computational model and the structural one. A partitioned solution is used to solve the fluid-structure interaction. The effect of specific input parameters on the function of both models (experimental and computational) is monitored. The influences of input parameters on the basic frequency of the generated signal (source voice), on the stability of the function and on other important characteristics are evaluated. The final chapters focus on the design of voice prosthesis in general. Some specific issues, which need to be solved when designing voice prosthesis, are highlighted.

Abstract:
Network-on-Chip (NoC) introduces parallelism in communications and emerges with the growing integration of circuits as large designs need scalable communication architectures. This introduces the separation between communication tasks and processing tasks, and makes the design with NoC more complex. High level synthesis (HLS) tools can help designers to quickly generate high quality HDL (Hardware Description Level) designs. But their control schemes are centralized, usually using finite state machines. To take benefit from parallel algorithms and the ever growing FPGAs, HLS tools must properly extract the parallelism from the input representation and use the available resources efficiently. Algorithm designers are used with programming languages. This behavioral specification has to be enriched with architectural details for a correct optimization of the generated design. The C to FPGA path is not straightforward, and the need for architectural knowledges limits the adoption of FPGAs, and more generally, parallel architecture. In this thesis, we present a method that uses a symbolic analysis technique to extract the parallelism of an algorithmic specification written in a high level language. Parallelization skills are not required from the users. A methodology is then proposed for adding NoCs in the automatic design generation that takes the benefit of potential parallelizations. To dimension the design, we estimate the design resource consumption using a mathematical model for the NoC. A scalable application, hardware specific, is then generated using a High Level Synthesis flow. We provide a distributed mechanism for data path reconfiguration that allows different applications to run on the same set of processing elements. Thus, the output design is programmable and has a processor-less distributed control. This approach of using NoCs enables us to automatically design generic architectures that can be used on FPGA servers for High Performance Reconfigurable Computing. The generated design is programmable. This enable users to avoid the logic synthesis step when modifying the algorithm if a existing design provide the needed operators

Abstract:
Chronic health conditions in youth have increased over the last several decades. It is estimated that within the United States there are between 15% to 18% of youth who are living with a chronic health condition (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2010). The CDC defines a chronic health condition as an illness that lasts for three months or longer that can be managed, but not cured (CDC, 2010). Although there is some research on youth living with chronic illnesses, there are minimal studies that assess the constructs of health literacy, resiliency, and support/advocacy within this population. The current investigation was a validity study of the Health Literacy and Resiliency Scale (HLRS). This is a newly developed 37-item measure that assesses the level of health literacy, resiliency, and support/self-advocacy among chronically ill youth (Bradley-Klug, Shaffer-Hudkins, Lynn, DeLoatche, & Montgomery, 2017). Specifically, the study correlated the construct of resiliency in the HLRS with the resiliency construct from the Child Youth and Resiliency Measure (CYRM; Ungar & Liebenberg, 2011). This measure is a 28-item measure that assesses levels of resiliency among youth and young adults. The goals for this study included: 1) determining the extent to which the results of the factor analysis from the current study are consistent with the three-factor model from the original study, 2) assessing the relationship between the HLRS and the CYRM, and 3) determining the reliability (internal consistency) of the scores of the HLRS. More importantly, since there have only been preliminary analyses conducted on the psychometric properties for the HLRS, this study was the first step towards providing validation for this measure. Participants were recruited through several methods including community-based organizations and online outlets. There were a total of 226 participants, with 54% identifying as White, 31% African American, and the remaining identifying as other. Sixty-one percent were female. The participants were English-speaking with a diagnosis of a chronic health condition given at least six months prior. Some of the conditions that were frequently identified among the sample included: diabetes, HIV, lupus, cystic fibrosis, ADHD, and asthma. Individuals were asked to complete the HLRS, CYRM, and a demographic survey online. The results indicated that the reliability of the values of the three factors in the HLRS ranged from acceptable to excellent. The results also included a correlation between the scores from the HLRS and CYRM. For the HLRS there were strong correlations between the resiliency and support/self-advocacy factors and health literacy and support/self-advocacy factors. For the CYRM, there was a strong correlation (r =.954) with the resiliency factor indicating that the resiliency factor within the HLRS aligns with the resiliency construct that is measured in the CYRM. Some items on the HLRS loaded on more than one factor indicating the need for further consideration of particular items on that scale. Overall, these data provide additional support for the HLRS scale and suggest that the scale may be a step closer to being utilized in applied settings.

Abstract:
Plant development and survival depend on the ability of these organisms to integrate many signalling which enables them to produce an appropriate response. Ethylene and auxin are phytohormones known to regulate agonistly or antagonistly many processes of plant development but yet the key integrating molecular players remain largely undiscovered. My Ph. D project deals with the identification and characterization of molecular actors that take part in this dialogue. We report that Sl-IAA3, a member of the tomato auxin/indole-3-acetic acid (Aux/IAA) gene family, is an intersection point between auxin and ethylene signal transduction pathways. Aux/IAA genes encode short-lived transcriptional regulators that mediate auxin responses. Sl-IAA3 expression is controlled by both auxin and ethylene and is regulated on a tight tissue-specific basis. Downregulation of Sl-IAA3 via an antisense strategy results in auxin and ethylenerelated phenotypes including altered apical dominance, lower auxin sensitivity, exaggerated apical hook curvature in the dark and reduced petiole epinasty in the light. These ethylene-related phenotypes in the antisense tomato lines (AS-IAA3) position Sl-IAA3 firmly at the crossroads between auxin and ethylene signalling in tomato. The induction of apical hook offers an excellent system to study auxinethylene interplay. In Arabidopsis, ethylene acts through HOOKLESS (HLS1) to control hook formation through modulating differential cell elongation in opposite sides of the hook. Loss of function mutation in the HLS1 gene results in the absence of hook even in the presence of exogenous ethylene. In the present study, we extended the phenotypes of the Arabidopsis hls1 mutant to alteration of light sensitivity, glucose and ABA tolerance and gravitropic growth thus uncovering the importance of HLS gene in the integration of multiple signalling pathways. Two functional tomato hookless genes (Sl-HLS1 and Sl-HLS2) were isolated in this study and shown to positively complement the Arabidopsis hls1 mutant. Expression of Sl-HLS2 in the hook is restricted to the outer face, opposite to Sl-IAA3 whose expression is localized in the inner face of the hook curvature. The data suggest that Sl-HLS2 and Sl-IAA3 exert antagonist control of cell elongation in the inner and outer part of the apical hook. Overall, the two genes characterized in this study open new prospects towards addressing the role of ethylene and auxin cross-talk during fruit development and ripening

Using an adaptive bitrate for streamed video was found to reduce stalls in playback for the client by adapting to the available bandwidth. A newer codec can further compress the video file size while maintaining the same video quality. This can improve the viewing experience for clients on a restricted or a congested network. The tests conducted in this thesis show that producing an adaptive bitrate stream and changing codecs is a very CPU intensive process.

Abstract:
In a world where the concept sustainability increasingly is becoming more relevant, stakeholders require companies to take greater responsibility. As a result, the strategic importance of sustainable development increases in the corporate world. Management systems is a strategical tool that can be used for sustainable development. A management system describes how an organization conducts its business and is a tool for the management to manage the business. A well-functioning management system can contribute to increased competitiveness, reduced costs and efficient working methods. It also exists several common challenges for management systems, for example that they do not always generate continuous improvement, that it can require a lot of resources, and that it is not used actively after implementation. For a management system to be effective and efficient, an important prerequisite is that the management system is actively used. An active management system is defined in the report as a management system that is purposefully introduced and used to contribute benefits and continuous improvements to the business and the surrounding world. This study examines how a management system can become active and how successful sustainability management can be achieved in a technical sales company. This is accomplished through a qualitative study consisting of a literature study and a case study. The literature study resulted in ten key factors that are important for an active management system for sustainability management; favorable culture, management commitment, involved employees, understanding and well-functioning communication, clearness, resources, defined areas of responsibility, business adaptation, consensus on sustainability and integration. The case study that was carried out consisted of an analysis of the current situation based on a questionnaire, a document study, interviews, and a participatory observation as well as a gap analysis that identified proposed actions. The case study was conducted at a technical sales company, Xylem Water Solution Sweden AB (Xylem WSS), that is a part of the corporate group Xylem Inc. The company works with water technology solutions and has a certified quality and environmental management system according to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. Xylem WSS’s management system is not active according to the definition in this report. The company's management system model has sustainability as a foundation for all activities. This is not being realized since the sustainability work is not well coordinated or prioritized. Based on this, there is a great potential for improvement. For the company to achieve an active management system for sustainability management, the company should work towards the identified key factors, for instance by implementing the proposed actions presented in this report. It is of great importance to have a committed management to create a culture of accountability where the management system and sustainability are prioritized. By improving the communication, it is possible to increase understanding, clarity, consensus, and commitment. Furthermore, increased business adaptation and integration in daily operations, as well as coordination of sustainability work, can improve the outcome of the management system. By adapting strategies and goals that exist on the corporate level to the operation of Xylem WSS, the company can achieve a structured sustainability management. In this situation, sustainability aspects that are specific to Xylem WSS should be identified and influence the outcome.

Abstract:
Field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) have been emerging as a promising bedrock to provide opportunities for several types of accelerators that spans across various domains such as finance, web-search, and data center networking, among others. Research interests facilitating the development of accelerators on FPGAs are increasing significantly, in particular, because of their effectiveness with a variety of applications, flexibility, and high performance per watt. However, several key challenges remain that hinder their large-scale deployment. Overcoming these challenges would enable them to match the pervasiveness of graphics processor units (GPUs), their principal competitors in this arena. One of the primary reasons responsible for the slow adaptation by programmers has been the programming model, which uses a low-level hardware description language (HDL). Using HDLs require a detailed understanding of logic design and significant effort to implement and verify the behavioral models, with the latter growing with its complexity. Recent advancements in high-level language synthesis (HLS) tools have addressed this challenge to a considerable extent by allowing the programmers to write their applications in a high-level language named OpenCL. These applications are then compiled and synthesized to create a bitstream that configures the FPGA. This thesis characterizes the efficacy of HLS compiler optimizations that can be employed to improve the performance of these applications. The synthesized hardware from OpenCL kernels is fundamentally different from traditional hardware such as CPUs and GPUs, which exploit instruction level parallelism (ILP) thread level parallelism (TLP), or data level parallelism (DLP) for performance gains. FPGAs typically use deep pipelining (i.e., ILP) for performance. A stall in this pipeline may severely undermine the performance of applications. Thus, it is imperative to identify and remove any such bottlenecks. To this end, this thesis presents and discusses a software-centric framework to debug and profile the synthesized designs generated using HLS tools. This thesis proposes basic code patterns, including a timestamp and a scalable framework, which can be plugged easily into OpenCL kernels, to collect and process run-time information dynamically. This scalable framework has a small overhead for area utilization and frequency but provides fine-grained information about the bottlenecks and latencies in design. Additionally, although HLS tools have improved programmability, this may come at the cost of performance or area utilization. This thesis addresses this design trade-off via a comparative study of a hand-coded design in HDL and an architecturally similar, tool-generated design using an OpenCL compiler in the application area of 3D-stencil (i.e., structured grid) computation. Experiments in this thesis show that the performance of an OpenCL approach can achieve 95% of the peak attainable performance of a microkernel for multiple problem sizes. In comparison to the OpenCL approach, an HDL approach results in approximately 50% less memory usage and only 2% better performance on average.

Abstract:
The fast growing complexity of hardware circuits, during the last three decades, has change devery step of their development cycle. Design methods evolved a lot, and this evolutionwas necessary to cope with an always shorter time-to-market, mainly driven by the internationalcompetition. An increased complexity also means more errors, harder to find corner-cases, and morelong and expensive simulations. The verification of hardware systems requires more andmore resources, and is the main cost factor of the whole development of a circuit. Since thecomplexity of any system increases, the cost of an error undetected until the foundry stepbecame prohibitive. Therefore, the verification process is divided between multiple stepsinvolved at every moment of the design process : comparison of models behavior, simulationof RTL descriptions, formal analysis of algorithms, assertions usage, etc. The verificationmethodologies evolved a lot, in order to follow the progress of design methods. Somemethods like the Assertion-Based Verification became so important that they are nowwidely adopted among the developers community, providing near-source error detection. Thus, the work described here aims at improving the assertion-based verification process,in order to offer a consequent timing improvment to designers. Two contributions aredetailed. The first one deals with the transformation of Boolean assertions found in algorithmicdescriptions into equivalent temporal assertions in the RTL description generatedby high-level synthesis (HLS) methodologies. Therefore, the assertions are usable duringthe simulation process of the generated architectures. The second contribution targets theverification of hardware systems in real-time. It details the synthesis process of a hardwareerror manager, which has to save and serialize the execution context when an error isdetected. Thus, it is easier to understand the cause of an error and to find its source. Theerrors and their contexts are serialized as reports in a memory readable by the system ordirectly by the designer. The behavior of a circuit can be analyzed without requiring anyprobe or integrated logic analyzer

Abstract:
The Mixed Coniferous-Broadleaf forest, mainly represented by the presence of Araucaria angustifolia, is highly important to the southern region of Brazil, the economic interest in this species led to a heavy exploration during the first half of the 20th century. The purpose of the Araucárias National Park is to preserve remnants of the forests with great presence of Araucaria angustifolia; therefore, the comprehension of the behavior of the phenological dynamic of the forest covers is a way of assisting the management and handling of these areas. Thereby, the goal is to apply a methodology based on harmonic analysis of EVI / MODIS time series to perform characterization and phenological mapping of the different vegetation covers present in Araucarias National Park; for that, it is intended to identify the medial values of EVI during the whole time series for different types of coverage of soil use and occupation, analyzing the relation between the phenological variations with precipitation data and maximum temperature, representing these variations of amplitude, phase and additive term for a complete series and individually for each year. Based on the HANTS algorithm, the harmonic analysis was applied to a time series of ten years, comprised between 2006 and 2015. Starting from this processing, images of the phase, amplitude and additive term were analyzed by means of four previously selected samples, representing the four main vegetation covers present in the park. In order to assist the visual interpretation of data, the images were converted from RGB to HLS. When all data was generated, it was possible to characterize how the variation in the value of vegetation indices happen throughout the year, as well as the time of the year when the biggest variations occur. Besides, it is possible to indicate the areas with significant changes in the use of soil, or changes caused by climatic events or by the vegetation own development. Through the data extracted with the harmonic analysis and the identification of the different phenologies, a classification was also generated on the time series, in order to identify the areas that still present remnants of Araucaria angustifolia predominantly.Ultimately, it is concluded that the application of a methodology based on the harmonic series enables a better comprehension of the forest covers present in this unity of conservation, generating useful information for the management and possible review of the management plan. For future application, the use of this methodology in a time series with greater spatial resolution is expected.

Abstract:
This project generated and characterized integration-free, episomal-derived induced pluripotent stem cell lines (E-iPSCs) from human somatic cell lines of different origins. Two different somatic cell lines were used, the human fetal fibroblast cell line HFF1 and human umbilical vein endothelial cell line HUVEC. Both were reprogrammed into integration-free iPSCs and were comparable amongst themselves and to human embryonic stem cells, the gold standard of pluripotent stem cells. Furthermore, the iPSCs with different genetic background were differentiated to hepatocyte-like cells (HLCs). With the use of iPSC-derived hepatocytes different stages during hepatogenesis and the potential of maturation could be analyzed as well as compared to fetal liver and primary human hepatocytes (PHH). This study could uncover gene regulatory networks which presence bipotential progenitor populations in HLCs. Additionally, comparable transcriptome profile analyses revealed that the iPSC-derived HLCs are immature and more similar to fetal liver. However, the HLCs hold typical functionality characteristics of hepatocyte, e.g. glycogen storage, uptake and release of ICG and CDFDA, bile acid and urea secretion. Furthermore, typical structures of hepatocytes such as bile canaliculi with microvilli, lipid storage and tight junctions are visible. In order to analyze the maturation potential of HLCs a long-term culture experiment was performed using HUVEC-iPSC-derived HLCs which implies the possibility for long-term culture of HLCs while increasing maturation. Additionally, HFF1-derived iPSCs were differentiated to endodermal progenitors (EPs) to analyze the endodermal development before biliary tree and hepatoblast which can give rise to hepatocytes, cholangiocytes and pancreatic cells. The multipotent EPs hold a great potential to analyze the endodermal development of intestine, lung, liver, bile duct and gallbladder, as well as pancreas.

Abstract:
Intelligent transport systems play an important role in minimizing accidents, traffic congestion, and air pollution. Among these systems, we mention the avionics domain, which uses in several cases the sorting algorithms, which are one of the important operations for real-time embedded applications. However, technological evolution is moving towards more and more complex architectures to meet the application requirements. In this respect, designers find their ideal solution in reconfigurable computing, based on heterogeneous CPU / FPGA architectures that house multi-core processors (CPUs) and FPGAs that offer high performance and adaptability to real-time constraints. Of the application. The main objective of my work is to develop hardware implementations of sorting algorithms on the heterogeneous CPU / FPGA architecture by using the high-level synthesis tool to generate the RTL design from the behavioral description. This step requires additional efforts on the part of the designer in order to obtain an efficient hardware implementation by using several optimizations with different use cases: software, optimized and nonoptimized hardware and for several permutations / vectors generated using the generator pf permutation based on Lehmer method. To improve performance, we calculated the runtime, standard deviation and resource number used for sorting algorithms by considering several data sizes ranging from 8 to 4096 items. Finally, we compared the performance of these algorithms. This algorithm will integrate the applications of decision support, planning the flight plan

Abstract:
First, we present techniques to efficiently schedule data transfers through compiler analyses. Compared to transferring data immediately before and after the kernel executes, our scheduling results in orders of magnitude improvements in execution time, number of data transfers, and number of bytes transferred. Second, we demonstrate techniques to provide on-chip debugging for heterogeneous systems through recording execution on the software in addition to debugging circuitry in the hardware, and provide a temporal correlation between the hardware and software traces through synchronization. This allows us to follow debug data between the hardware and software trace buffers. Due to the added cost of synchronizing the trace buffers, we explore synchronization schemes which can reduce the impact synchronization depending on the code structure. We demonstrate the quantitative impact of these techniques on execution time and hardware and software resources, which are under a 2x increase to execution time in most cases. Third, we demonstrate how source-code debugging techniques for on-chip debugging can be applied to OpenCL FPGA kernels in heterogeneous systems. We developed techniques and a tool-flow that allows users to select variables to record, automatically insert recording instructions into the kernel source code, synthesize the changes directly into the hardware design using commercial HLS tools, retrieve the trace data through kernel arguments, and present it to the user. Overall, quantitative measurements showed our techniques resulted in modest increases to execution time and hardware resources.

Abstract:
Digital terrain models (DTMs) are used in society for many importantfunctions and therefore need to be kept up to date when changes occur.Sweden has a national height model (NH) that provides height data across thewhole country. The update of NH mostly relies on airborne laser scanning(ALS). The airborne laser scanning method generally has a highermeasurement uncertainty in dense forests. When exploitation or futureplanned changes in forest areas occur, a more accurate model may need to beproduced. An evaluation has been carried out of the handheld laser scanner ZEB-REVO with the aim of determining the instrument's measurement uncertainty indense forests, evaluating how the measurement uncertainty changes with thepoint distance in the produced DTM and the measurement uncertainty ZEBREVOmay achieve in comparison with NH in the same area. The study included two different types of forest consisting of spruce and pineforest trees, respectively. Measurement uncertainty has been determined bymeasuring terrestrial control profiles with a total station. In order to be ableto carry out the measurement of control profiles, a working control networkhas been established through a fully connected traverse using full rounds ofmeasurement. The known points to which the traverse is connected have beenmeasured as free stations using SmartWorx. The results show that the measurement uncertainty improves when the pointdistance is reduced. The measurements with ZEB-REVO have the potential toachieve a lower measurement uncertainty than NH in both forest types. Theresults for the pine forest show that ZEB-REVO can achieve a 4 centimetrelevel uncertainty and an average deviation of height of 0,018 m against themeasured control profiles. The comparison with control profiles for the areain the spruce forest shows that an average deviation in height of 0,058 m wasachievable. ZEB-REVO has the potential to improve data in NH and data collected withZEB-REVO can form the basis for terrain modelling for projectionwork. Theinstrument can also achieve the best accuracy rating 1, for which themaximum mean deviation in height must not exceed 0.02 m.
