The hoarseness diagram (Michaelis, Fröhlich, & Strube, 1998a) has been proposed as a new approach to describe different acoustic properties of voices. To test its performance in the analysis of pathologically disturbed and normal voices five requirements are suggested that should be met by any acoustic voice-analysis protocol to be used in voice research and clinical practice. The hoarseness diagram is then tested with regard to these requirements. Individual voices are found to show a satisfactory localization in the diagram. ABSTRACT Aim Hoarseness of voice is generally due to change in quality of voice. The etiology of hoarseness of voice varies from benign conditions to malignant disease, hence should not be ignored. All cases of hoarseness of voice persisting for more than 3 weeks should be investigated for the underlying disease. It may indicate either malignancy of larynx or silent bronchogenic carcinoma. A retrospective study of cases of hoarseness of voice was done in MediCiti Institute of Medical Sciences for a period of 5 years. ABSTRACT Hoarseness of voice is one of the commonest symptoms found in ENT clinics. The present study is to assess etiopathology of hoarseness of voice at our center. The diagnostic potential of laryngeal endoscopy for different laryngeal lesions and its correlation with histopathology is also done. In this retrospective study 126 patients were included. The commonest etiology for hoarseness of voice was found to be chronic laryngitis (51.6%) followed by malignancy (27.8%) and vocal cord paralysis (15.1%). Vocal abuse (33.3%) and smoking (29.4%) were found to be leading predisposing factors. P
