The hoarseness diagram (Michaelis, Fröhlich, & Strube, 1998a) has been proposed as a new approach to describe different acoustic properties of voices. To test its performance in the analysis of pathologically disturbed and normal voices five requirements are suggested that should be met by any acoustic voice-analysis protocol to be used in voice research and clinical practice. The hoarseness diagram is then tested with regard to these requirements. Individual voices are found to show a satisfactory localization in the diagram. ABSTRACT A 65-year-old man with persistent hoarseness of voice of 1-year duration was found to have a lesion in both vocal cords based on flexible laryngoscopy. He was diagnosed as having amyloidosis of the glottis on biopsy. He did not have any associated comorbidities. He underwent laser excision of the lesion following which his voice improved. There were no signs of recurrence during the 6-month follow-up period. How to cite this article John BT, Chandrasekharan R, Paul RR. Laryngeal Amyloidosis: A Rare Entity causing Hoarseness of Voice. Hoarseness of voice due to unilateral vocal cord palsy as the first clinical presentation of tuberculosis (TB) has been rarely reported. A 15-year-old female presented with a sole history of hoarseness of voice for the past 4 months. Axial computed tomography (CT) at the level of vocal cords revealed dilation of the left laryngeal ventricle with ipsilateral deviation of arytenoid cartilage (sail sign), suggestive of left vocal cord palsy. Thoracic CT revealed multiple necrotic mediastinal lymphadenopathy, which on endoscopic ultrasound-guided biopsy confirmed TB. She was started on regular ant

A young man in his late 30s with a history of pulmonary tuberculosis presented with complaints of hoarseness of voice persisting for 6 months. Chest auscultation revealed diminished breath sounds over the right lung field. An initial chest X-ray showed collapse of the right lung with mediastinal shift towards right. Fibreoptic laryngoscopy revealed sluggish movement of the left vocal cord. CT neck showed focal nodular thickening in the left false vocal cord and thrombus in the right main pulmonary artery. The subsequent CT pulmonary angiogram performed revealed right pulmonary thromboembolism

Acoustic assessment of voice impairment is commonly performed by subjective perceptual evaluation of continuous speech based on a grading system such as the roughness, breathiness, hoarseness (RBH) scale. Here, we present an automatic approach to objectively quantify hoarseness severity based on sustained vowels. For this study, a total of 635 recordings of the sustained vowel /a/ were collected. Temporal, spectral and cepstral features were extracted from one second of each recording. All recordings have an assigned RBH value, which was determined subjectively by an expert based on continuous

ABSTRACT Aims and Objectives: This study aims to explore the pathogenesis of hoarseness of voice resulting from cardiovascular disorders that affect the left recurrent laryngeal nerve (LRLN), supported by a review of the existing literature. Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional observational study conducted over a 3-year period, spanning from May 2019 to May 2022. The study involved the evaluation of 720 cases of hoarseness of voice through video-laryngoscopy. Within this cohort, we scrutinized eight distinct cases of Ortner’s syndrome, each attributed to various underlying causes.

Farber disease (FD) is an extremely rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by the deficiency of lysosomal acid ceramidase. It is characterized by a triad of progressive multiple joints’ involvement, subcutaneous nodules, and hoarseness of voice. In this report, we describe a 23-month-old boy diagnosed with Farber disease. Initially, he was misdiagnosed as juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) because he presented with joint swelling. However, the associated hoarseness of voice, subcutaneous nodules, and poor response to treatment all have questioned the diagnosis of JIA and prompted the suspic
