Full textA holistic approach on construction planning. This master thesis presents an exploratory study of the embodied- and operational energy of a passive house from a life cycle perspective. Where aspects such as the effect of insulation choice, environmental impacts and geographic location are treated. With the objective to investigate the variation of the life cycle energy for operational- and embodied energy when the surroundings for a passive house changes between Kiruna, Luleå and Malmö and the insulation material varies. The study is limited to examine the embodied energy of the insulation in the roof construction of a passive house. Environmental impacts have been assessed on the basis of energy consumption and carbon emissions. Simulations of operational energy was performed for eight different sets of insulation in three different places where a life span of 50 years was adopted for the house. Two of the insulations were found to have a much greater embodied energy than the other. For those insulations with lower energy the embodied energy was in Kiruna between 10-20 % in Luleå between 15-30 % and in Malmö between 5- 10% of the total life cycle energy for the house when the actual energy mix for heating was used, which means that the energy was described in primary energy made of non-renewable resources. For those with higher embodied energy the same ratio was between 35-55 %, 50-80 % and 25- 50 %. No correlation was found between carbon dioxide emissions and the embodied energy of the various studies. The result indicates a great impact of the insulation on the total life cycle energy it is therefore concluded that a better account for the environmental impact of building materials should be taken when a house is designed where all of the energy demands of the house are presented in nonrenewable energy resources.

Full textThe purpose of the study is to examine and analyze the relation between the existence of global companies and given support to immigrant- owned companies with large cultural difference from public services. This helps answering the question "Which affect does the existence of local dominating companies have on the establishment of small companies owned by immigrants with large cultural differences?" This has been accomplished through a field study containing twelve interviews with small companies in two different cities and two interviews with the community officials in each city. The research was thereby narrowed to only treat the two cities in Sweden in order to examine the relation between public services support to small immigrant-owned companies and how the immigrants experience the support from them. The analyze was made due to a handful of theories such as the The network theory IP model, Hofstede's 4+1 model and the Product Life Cycle. The results showed that there are several elements that affects the establishment of immigrant- owned companies with large cultural differences.

Full textUse of alternative treatment, including acupuncture, has increased in many countries. According to WHO, each member country should work for an increased integration of complementary- and alternative medicine into school medicine. According to The National Board of Health and Welfare nurses should seek information and implement new knowledge within school medicine. The aim was to explore why people choose alternative treatment such as acupuncture and their experiences of it. The approach was an interview with narrative method and manifest content analysis was used for the analysis. The result generated into seven categories; 1) ”insufficient care and treatment” where the informants stated that acupuncture had helped them with their troubles when school medicine was insufficient, 2) “patient-centered holistic approach” where the informants experienced the feeling of being put in the centre first when they chose an alternative treatment with acupuncture, 3) “desire for integrated care” where all informants expressed a wish for integration of acupuncture according to Traditional Chinese Medicine within school medicine, 4) “sense of security” where the informants expressed a larger sense of security for acupuncture in accordance with Traditional Chinese Medicine due to the education and knowledge that was regarded as more profound than the acupuncture within school medicine which felt more superficial, 5) “feeling of increased wellbeing” where all informants experienced an increased sense of wellbeing, both physical and mental, after having received acupuncture in accordance with Traditional Chinese Medicine, 6) “financial matters” where alternative treatment of acupuncture was considered expensive, 7) “attitudes” where informants experienced mixed attitudes regarding their choice of treatment. In conclusion, the result shows that there may be a need for an increased integration between school medicine and the complementary- and alternative medicine, focusing on acupuncture, as a complement to increase individual freedom in choosing treatment. Continuous research regarding the effect of acupuncture according to Traditional Chinese Medicine for different troubles is needed for a greater evidence within in the subject area and recognition in school medicine.
