The article analyzes the semantics of the image of the holy fool in V. A. Nikiforov-Volgin’s short stories “Holy Fool” and “Glebushka the Holy Fool.” The image of the holy fool in the author’s prose took shape under the influence of the Old Russian literary tradition, works of Fyodor Dostoevsky and Ivan Shmelev. Nomination of the holy fool in the prose writer’s works reflects the character’s childishness and soul purity, characteristic for this image. What is the significance of the deployment of madness in the early Christian ascetic experience of holiness? The flight to the desert of the first Christian anchorites and coenobites was an attempt to transform the experience and theology of holiness in church and society by transgressing the rules and thoughts of the city in a practical outworking

Scholars and storytellers alike have deemed George MacDonald a great mythopoeic writer, an exemplar of the art. Examination of this accolade by those who first applied it to him proves it profoundly theological: for them a mythopoeic tale was a relational medium through which transformation might occur, transcending boundaries of time and space. The implications challenge much contemporary critical study of MacDonald, for they demand that his literary life and his theological life cannot be divorced if either is to be adequately assessed. Yet they prove consistent with the critical methodology

This report describes the quality assessment of Blind Via Holes (BVHs) of Printed Wiring Boards (PWBs) drilled by a CO2 laser using Cu-direct drilling. In the Cu-direct drilling method, the copper foil and the build-up layer are melted at the same time, and the surface is treated to increase the laser energy absorbed by the copper foil since an untreated copper surface reflects most of the 10.6-μm-wavelength CO2 laser beam. However, there are few reports dealing with Cu-direct laser drilling of PWBs. In addition, when copper and resin with different processing thresholds are drilled at the sam

Abstract:
ERS researchers conducted interviews with Mexican horticultural growers focused on the export market to explore how their industry responded to the new requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). Half of the 26 companies interviewed identified training the head of the firm’s food safety program as the main challenge in complying with the act. Medium-to-large companies (300–1,000 seasonal workers) were more likely to have modified their food safety activities and to hold 3 or more food safety certifications—facilitating the sector’s growing presence in the U.S. market.

Abstract:
On military installations, an average of 1.2 pounds in food waste is disposed per person per day, accounting for 68% of dining facility (DFAC) refuse and 46% of the total installation refuse stream, making food waste the heaviest portion of installation solid waste. At a single installation, this can contribute up to 1.5 million dollars lost yearly from food waste alone. Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 4715.23 (DoD 2016) establishes policy and prescribes procedures to implement waste management through waste prevention and recycling. Abstract:
Brazil and the United States are key players in world agricultural and food markets. The agri-food system in both countries is very large in absolute and relative terms. Both are net exporters of agricultural and food products and major recipients of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the food industry. In addition, US food processors hold substantial investment positions abroad. In the 1990s, both countries were actively involved in the formation of regional trade blocs. The United States is a member of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), while Brazil is a member of the Southern

Abstract:
The theme for World Water Day 2022 is ‘Groundwater – Making the Invisible Visible’. Groundwater is water found underground in aquifers – geological formations of rocks, sands and gravels, that hold substantial quantities of water. Groundwater feeds springs, rivers, lakes and wetlands, and seeps into oceans. 80 percent of the world’s food depends on groundwater. It is recharged mainly from rain and snowfall infiltrating the ground, and can be extracted to the surface by pumps and wells.

Abstract:
We analyze the effect of adverse health shocks on households' expenditure shares in different good categories using a fixed-effects approach and a structural approach based on microeconomic theory. We find that, on average, households substitute health and food expenditure in response to adverse health shocks. Our estimates unveil substantial heterogeneity in this trade-off mediated by access to social protection, job contract type, and urban or rural location. Households from rural areas --where household heads are more likely to hold informal jobs and lack access to safety nets-- engage in m

Abstract:
This rapid review synthesises the literature from academic, policy, and knowledge institution sources on the drivers of acute food insecurity and famines with a focus on key FCDO-partner countries. This review builds further on evidence already collected in other K4D helpdesk reports. The main conclusion of this rapid review is that the drivers of acute food insecurity are complex, often involving multiple and interrelated factors. The drivers for chronical food insecurity and acute food insecurity cannot be separated entirely from each other, as the evidence shows that slow-onset determinants

Like other young people, street children and youth have hopes, dreams and aspirations, but perceive their future as more immediate due to the daily search for shelter and food. • Street children and youth hope to attain material and symbolic signs of adult status, including starting their own family, and the respect and esteem of the wider community. • Their route to the future they aspire to is often unclear, hindered by a lack of shelter, identity documents, discrimination, and gender norms. • While acknowledging limited power, street children and youth were simultaneously optimistic and rea

In Migori County, Kenya, the revolution of Amaranth (Amaranthus spp.) from a weed to a staple food crop demonstrates the potential of indigenous vegetables to enhance food security and foster community resilience. For a long time, the plant occurred widely as a weed, most often referred to as ‘pigweed’, which meant that it could not be consumed as a food crop. The Amaranth, originally from South America, is a plant that produces edible leaves and grains upon maturity. The plant also boasts drought-resistance qualities and versatility. It has since found its place in local kitchens and commerci
