Abstract:
Christian faith recognizes the existence of the Holy Spirit as the divine person promised by Jesus. But not all Christians experience the involvement of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Whereas a person who is led by the Holy Spirit will experience spiritual growth, so that he lives according to God's truth and his life bears witness. This study aims to answer the question, what is the role of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers in leading to all truth? This research is a library research using descriptive analysis method, with the Bible as the main source and support of reliable literature. The conclusion of this research is, first, the Holy Spirit makes the person he leads free from sin and intimidation from the evil one. Second, the Holy Spirit gives wisdom and understanding to know Jesus and live it at every step of the life journey. Third, the Holy Spirit leads to the whole truth of God, so that the person he guides avoids deception.

Abstract:
Teaching about the Holy Spirit is an important theme in the teaching curriculum for the formation of adult members of the church. Paul's letter to the Ephesians emphasized the importance of living under the leading of the Holy Spirit. The church must carry out the teaching of the Holy Spirit in the formation of the members of the congregation, so that the congregation has a correct understanding. Through a literature study approach related to the study of the Ephesians, it was found that the teaching of the Holy Spirit in Ephesians is the Holy Spirit as a seal, believers are sealed with the Holy Spirit when they believe which signifies that believers belong to God. The Holy Spirit is the guarantee that believers will receive what He has promised. Believers are the abode of the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit indwells believers. The Holy Spirit empowers believers by His Spirit within. Believers should not grieve the Holy Spirit, but believers are commanded to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who guides believers in prayer. The Bible study in Ephesians about the Holy Spirit can be a reference for the church to implement a curriculum for teaching about the Holy Spirit for the formation of adult members of the congregation. The teachings of the Bible in the letter of Ephesians are the basis for the importance of teaching the Holy Spirit to adult members of the church.

Scholars regularly read Sylvia Plath biographically, but few have focused on her religious beliefs and their manifestation in her work. This essay explores Plath’s ideas about religion, and about Christianity in particular, as they are articulated in college papers, in her journals, and in her fiction. It argues, finally, that Plath’s wrestling with Christian religious ideas is that of the kind of “cross-pressured” believer characterized by Charles Taylor; she is a humanist atheist tempted by belief.

Abstract:
This research intends to give a proposal concerning the practice of the holy communion in Gereja Bethel Indonesia (GBI) based on John Calvin’s theological thought. As one of the largest Pentecostal church in Indonesia and even further, as a Holy Spirit-centered church, GBI has not yet given a ‘room’ for Holy Spirit to unite the church with Christ through holy communion. In general, the holy communion practice is done as a memorial act upon His crucifixion that not only save the world, but also able to heal physical ailments. This study is using literature study to explore some material sources from GBI that contain the church’s doctrine, the primary source of John Calvin’s theological idea from his writings, and also secondary sources from theologians that has been exploring this issue. The researcher’s perspective and experience of being a member of GBI also cannot be dismissed to contribute in this study. I argue two things: 1) that Calvin’s theology on ‘spiritual presence’ about the union with Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit can be a beneficial contribution to the practice of the holy communion in GBI and it is not conflicting each other, considering the work of the Holy Spirit is a central doctrine in the life of Pentecostal congregation; 2) The act of faith in the GBI context might be a necessary role in believing the work of the Holy Spirit in holy communion. Researcher also give some potential challenges and solutions to consider in doing this proposal.

Abstract:
Nowadays, churches are found that are led and managed like companies based on worldly principles, thus ignoring the important role of the Holy Spirit in them. Whereas the church is a fellowship of those who have received God's grace in faith in Christ. In order to reveal the light of God's Kingdom in the world, serve others, and grow with the aim of expanding God's Kingdom on earth. This paper aims to analyze the role of the Holy Spirit in the existence, ministry and growth of the Church by using descriptive qualitative methods related to the experience of the early church. Data collection was carried out through the Bible and various literature, journals, books, and interviews. As a result, the Holy Spirit acts as a church planter, empowers ministers to carry out church ministry duties, and drives church growth in all things. The conclusion is that the existence, ministry and growth of the church is the work of the Holy Spirit by deceiving believers for the fulfillment of God's work and plan for the world. so that the existence, ministry and growth of the church cannot be separated from the role of the Holy Spirit who works to realize the divine plan.

Morgan-Wynne, John Eifion. "The Holy Spirit and religious experience in Christian literature c.90-200 AD." Thesis, Durham University, 1987. http://etheses.dur.ac.uk/6616/.

Full text
Abstract:
The thesis explores whether religious experience and the Spirit are linked in Christian literature between c90 and 200. Three spheres of religious experience were chosen as illustrations - a sense of being personally encountered/overwhelmed by the divine; of divine illumination/guidance; and of being divinely empowered for ethical conduct. The Introduction reviews previous research: since Weinel. There has not been a comprehensive survey covering both the New Testament and early Patristic evidence, in what is the transition period between the subapostolic church and the emergence of the Catholic Church by the early third century. A brief survey of the evidence before c90 sets the background for the study. Thereafter, the thesis is divided into a further seven parts, surveying the literature on a geographical basis, viz Syria, Asia Minor, Greece, Rome, Southern Gaul, Northern Africa and Egypt. The final part draws together the conclusions of the study. Whether the Spirit was at different moments a part of Christian distinctiveness over against the world, Judaism and internal opponents, whether deemed "heretical" or not, is explored. The evidence for a continuing sense of being overwhelmed by an encounter with the Holy Spirit is patchy, and no uniform type of experience necessarily emerges within any given geographical area. Throughout the period Christians were confronted by the need to test claims to inspiration by the Spirit. None of the various tests proposed really centred on the actual experience itself but all were external ones. Claims to possess the truth took various forms, and again there was no necesary uniformity with any given area. Generally, the ethical demand and the Spirit's help was less held together than was characteristic of Paul. Some writers may mention both aspects but these were not expressed in an integrated way; others came close to moralism. The variegated picture which emerges probably faithfully reflects second century Christianity.

Lee, Justin Joon. "Origen and the Holy Spirit." Thesis, Durham University, 2018. http://etheses.dur.ac.uk/12804/.

Full text
Abstract:
This dissertation is an examination of the pneumatology of Origen of Alexandria. By providing insight into his understanding of the Holy Spirit, it also seeks to reframe the way in which Origen’s Trinitarian theology is understood. In this study, I argue that Origen conceives of the Holy Spirit as a divine person, but inferior in nature. Origen’s pneumatology must be considered in light of his understanding of the Son and Father, as well as the influence of Middle Platonism on his theological and cosmological framework. Origen’s concept of Trinity is a hierarchy of divine persons in which the greater ministers to the existence of the lower. Though Origen recognizes the personhood of the Holy Spirit, he believes that the Spirit is less than the other divine persons, both in person and in work. The Spirit’s origin and attributes, for which Origen has no real scriptural or traditional precedent, he struggles to articulate and often leaves unresolved. I suggest that Origen’s pneumatology can be best understood by examining where he is most clear and consistent: the work of the Holy Spirit. Origen consistently portrays the Spirit as participating in the divine work of salvation; his Trintarianism is strongly economic, emphasizing shared work and will. The Spirit’s specific role in the economy is to indwell and assist the saints, in line with his lesser status. There are two ways in which the Holy Spirit’s activity can be framed: (1) in the Trinitarian and downward action of God, in which the Spirit is the direct distributor of the divine gifts and graces and (2) the Spirit’s upward work of revelation and sanctification, by which he leads the saints to the Son and Father. The Spirit thus serves as the practical and personal initiator of believers into the greater processes of salvation and deification.

Abstract:
AbstractUsing sources from the fourth century CE, Thomas E. Hunt analyses how people imagined breath in late antiquity. Breathing was a way to mark out and understand human difference in the complex social world of the late Roman Empire. In this context, a person’s breath was used to judge the quality of their social relationships. Breath also held cosmic import, for when a person drew in air they participated in the wider structure of the universe. Christian writers described the inner life of God by referring to these models of breath and breathing. In this essay, Hunt shows how social and theological accounts of breathy relation reinforced each other.

Abstract:
Abstract Chapter 2 explores how it could be that the Church is one in Christ, united by the work of the Holy Spirit, despite the overwhelming division and discord it displays. It argues that unity in the body of the Church must be located not in human organization or structure, but only in the work of the ‘one Spirit’ in whom ‘we were all are baptised’ (1 Cor. 12:13). Thus, a social ontology of the Church must emphasize the Spirit as the primary agent at work within it. By outlining recent work on the ontology of social groups, the chapter argues that functionalist accounts of group agency can help us to see how the Church as a social reality might be united by its decision-making procedures. Unlike the other social bodies discussed in this literature, however, the Church does not derive its decision-making from the group aggregation of its members, but instead, from the work of the Spirit within the community. Applying Richard Hooker’s work on Anglican Church polity, this chapter argues that one means of discerning the Spirit’s work might be through the structures of the institutional church, so long as these structures don’t seek to replace the Spirit’s work in the Church.

Abstract:
This chapter analyzes the wisdom tradition in the biblical Book of Proverbs, which goes back around the third century BCE. Wisdom emerged prior to the creation of the world, before the universe had taken on its final form. The chapter emphasizes that Wisdom is to be understood as a person and even enthroned on a cloud throne in heaven. But in contrast to Proverbs, Wisdom comes forth from the mouth of God and is obviously God's word, which is nevertheless interpreted as a person, since she lives in heaven, sits on a throne, compasses the heavenly and earthly vaults, and rules over the land, seas, and all people. The chapter also talks about Wisdom or the holy spirit as gifts from God to the righteous person.

Abstract:
The key characteristic of the Orthodox Church, expressed in the Nicene Creed, is that the Church is one, holy, conciliar and apostolic. Although it consists of many local churches, which have their own national characteristics and independent governance, the Orthodox Church is nevertheless one in spirit, faith and equality of power. This goal of this paper is to examine conciliarity as the key principle on the basis of which the Orthodox Church governs itself since its inception, which is based on the Holy Scriptures, the Holy Tradition, the teaching of the holy Apostles, the decisions of the Ecumenical Councils and the rules of the church fathers. Particularly, this paper focuses on the Orthodox Church’s view on the question of power, primacy and authority from the perspective of the principle of conciliarity

"THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN WANG MENG AND THE RUSSIAN LITERATURE — A STUDY OF WANG MENG’S ACCEPTANCE AND VARIATION OF RUSSIAN AND SOVIET LITERATURE IN THE 30 YEARS OF CHINESE CONTEMPORARY LITERATURE." Abstract:
Wang Meng is one of the Chinese writers whose works have been most translated in Russia, and even the sales of translations of the same work in Russia have greatly exceeded the sales in China. It can be said that Wang Meng’s influence on Russia is the same as that of Russian literature on Wang Meng’s life, and the latter is an indispensable cause of the former. This paper takes the period from the founding of the People’s Republic of China to the late period of 1980s as the timeline, the influence of Soviet literature on Wang Meng’s writing during the Sino-Soviet period, and the variation of Wang Meng’s acceptance of Russian and Soviet literature in the new period. Combined with text analysis, the author explains the literary phenomenon of writer Wang Meng. First of all, the influence of Soviet literature on Wang Meng’s writing during the Sino-Soviet period was divided into two parts: one is the “invisible” imitation of Russian and Soviet literature by contemporary Chinese writers; the other is Wang Meng’s inheritance and influence of Soviet literature. Among them, the Slavic spirit in Wang Meng’s works and the “revolutionary” theme in Wang Meng’s novels are the innovations of this article. In the second, the author separately analyzes three aspects: Wang Meng’s practice of Bakhtin’s carnivalized poetics, the change from idealism to realism, and the Orthodox spirit, Lao Zhuang thought and Wang Meng’s literary worldview. According to the language expression, the author’s creative style and the writers’ literary thought analysis, author explored Wang Meng’s acceptance and transformation of Soviet literary theories, literary genres, and Russian national spirit after the 1980s, and revealed Wang Meng’s reform and innovation in the literary path. Furthermore, from this perspective, examine the reasons why Wang Meng’s novel creation can stand on its own, repeatedly innovate, and the literary charm is evergreen.

Braun, Miguel, Emmanuel Abuelafia, Sergio Berensztein, and Luciano Di Gresia. Who Decides on Public Expenditures?: A Political Economy Analysis of the Budget Process: The Case of Argentina. Inter-American Development Bank, September 2005. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0009171.

Full text
Abstract:
The budget process is increasingly considered key for reform efforts to improve fiscal outcomes. The authors embark on a political economy analysis of the budget process in Argentina, in the spirit of the IDB project "Political Institutions, Policymaking Processes and Policy Outcomes" in order to understand who determines budget outcomes in Argentina. The paper seeks to characterize the institutional framework that regulates the budget preparation, approval, implementation and control. Furthermore, it identifies which actors are involved both formally and informally in the process at each stage, and seeks to understand their incentives and interactions. The findings include the fact that the President has a de facto role that is much more powerful than what the laws and institutions of the budget process stipulate. However, the rigidity of the budget process, together with other constraints such as macroeconomic shocks, fiscal rules, agreements with International Financial Institutions and the influence of other actors such as governors, legislators and lobbies, have limited the ability of the Executive to substantially modify the budget process. The paper includes the analytical framework, and a discussion of some relevant literature on the Argentine budget process; an outline of the political and economic environment in which the budget process has evolved, and an outline of the formal rules of the budget process. Finally, an analysis of the actual workings of the budget process, and how the workings of the budget process are related to fiscal policy outcomes.

Hertel, Thomas, and Jeff Reimer. Estimating the Poverty Impacts of Trade Liberalization. GTAP Working Paper, January 2003. http://dx.doi.org/10.21642/gtap.wp20.

Full text
Abstract:
As a new round of World Trade Organization negotiations is being launched with greater emphasis on developing country participation, a body of literature is emerging which quantifies how international trade affects the poor in developing countries. This survey summarizes and classifies thirty-five studies from this literature into four methodological categories: cross-country regression, partial-equilibrium/cost-of-living analysis, general-equilibrium simulation, and micro-macro synthesis. These categories encompass a broad range of methodologies in current use. The continuum of approaches is bounded on one end by econometric analysis of household expenditure data, which is the traditional domain of poverty specialists, and sometimes labeled the “bottom-up” approach. On the other end of the continuum are computable general equilibrium models based on national accounts data, or what might be called the “top-down” approach. Another feature of several recent trade/poverty studies – and one of the primary conclusions to emerge from the October 2000 Conference on Poverty and the International Economy sponsored by Globkom and the World Bank – is recognition that factor markets are perhaps the most important linkage between trade and poverty, since households tend to be much more specialized in income than they are in consumption. Meanwhile, survey data on the income sources of developing-country households has become increasingly available. As a result, this survey gives particular emphasis to the means by which studies address factor market linkages between trade and poverty. The general conclusion is that any analysis of trade and poverty needs to be informed by both the bottom-up and top-down perspectives. Indeed, recent “two-step” micro-macro studies sequentially link these two types of frameworks, such that general equilibrium mechanisms are incorporated along with detailed household survey information. Another methodology similar in spirit and also increasingly used involves the incorporation of large numbers of surveyed households into a general-equilibrium simulation model. Although most of these studies have so far been limited to a single region, these approaches can be readily adapted for multi-region modeling so that trade-poverty comparisons can be made across countries within a consistent framework.

Abstract:
What makes some children succeed despite studying in failing education systems? Are these children exceptionally gifted, or do other psychological or sociological factors and family circumstances contribute to success? To address the learning crisis in state schools in developing countries, development agencies have primarily focused on identifying inputs that can improve state education provision. Yet, even from low-performing state schools, some children do manage to successfully complete primary and secondary education cycles, pursue higher education, and record upward social mobility, but we know very little about the factors that facilitate this success. This paper addresses this gap in the literature. Tracing life histories of successful alumni of state schools supported by CARE, an education foundation in Pakistan, this paper identifies children’s motivation to succeed as having a major impact on educational performance. However, for most this motivation is not a product of an innate desire to excel, it is a product of contextual factors: parental encouragement; an acute desire to make parents happy and to alleviate their sufferings; the company of friends, cousins, and peers who are keen on education and thus help to create an aspiring, competitive spirit; encouragement given by good teachers; and exposure to new possibilities and role models that raise aspirations by showing that what might appear to the child unachievable is in fact attainable. High motivation in turn builds commitment to work hard. Equally important, however, is the provision of financial support at critical points, especially when transitioning from secondary school to college and university. Without financial support, which could be in the form of scholarships, loans, or income from part-time work, at critical junctures, even highly motivated children in state schools cannot succeed. The paper thus argues that rather than being focused solely on education inputs, development agencies should also seek to explore and understand the factors that can motivate children in state schools to aim high and work hard to succeed.

Abstract:
The article deals with the problem of the meaningfulness (essence) of the worldview journalism in the context of the argumentative resources of the work of influentive authors, for which the missionary role of the word is decisive. The search for meaning has been debated for centuries by orators, philosophers, psychologists, writers, sociologists, historians, journalists, and so on. In addition to other factors, a combination of the principles of worldview journalism and conceptual humanitarianism gives effective results. The author explores the acute problem of the effectiveness of a journalistic text through the prism of knowing the truth, meaning, since this is precisely where the source of wisdom is found; we are talking about spirituality, culture, historical memory. As influental authors proved with their arguments, the collection of facts is not enough, it is important to find the meaning of the existence of the individual, communities, and humanity. A number of examples show how the speakers of worldview journalism use all texts, not only from the archives: we are talking about poetry, art, in general, about literature, which revealed the most truth. Figuratively speaking, it is not only about the world of borders, it is important to consider horizons. Turning information into a commodity, focusing on “seasonal” interest based on the materialism of facts, or the inadequacy of many concepts and categories, the faking of media, relativity, obscurity of texts, anti-culture, in other words, the revolution of nihilism inevitably relativizes the very essence of journalism. If creative life is a manifestation of the freedom of the spirit, based on authentic truth, then we should strive to achieve the “extension of vision”, to master combinatorial (combinative) thinking. The ability to think in this way differs from ordinary logic in which the main universal thing remains in the center of attention, and the personality is not lost in individual details. Consequently, we can build a genealogy of ordered things and concepts, feel their inner relationship. Key words: meaning, worldview, journalism, argument, influence, moral principles, creativity.
