Abstract:
The concept of home has often been recognized as a foundational concept in popular science-fiction (SF) as the point of departure or place of return in the space odyssey, timetravel mission, or heroic quest. Most SF narratives evidently centre on notions of homelessness, homecomings, threats to home or journeys from it. However, independent of the film’s narrative, home is also considered within SF as the place of the audience member, spatially and temporally, the distinction of which is critical for establishing the alien encounter with the putative future world. As a critical genre, SF conti

Since the seminal work of Schwartz and Barsky (1977) detailing the notion of a home advantage, whereby teams perform consistently better at home opposed to away, there has been a plethora of research dedicated to studying this phenomenon. In Ecuador, there is a grave socioeconomic nutritional problem, and it is seen clearest in Imbabura province in the communities of Cuambo and La Rinconada. One of the biggest problems is inadequate food, due principally to the poor food storage and conservation habits. Considering this problem, it is necessary to deepen the knowledge of improved traditional techniques for storing and conserving food, through which families can store and manage their product better, controlling and avoiding losses due to insects, rodents, and climate, and guaranteeing conservation of the same. In Europe many appliances are emerging that incorporate power measuring devices for power regulation. However, products for retrofitting old appliances or recording measurements from other power consuming devices are not available. Due to aging of applia

Goldring, N. G. "The effects of isometric exercise on resting blood pressure : a home-based approach." Thesis, Canterbury Christ Church University, 2014. http://create.canterbury.ac.uk/13461/.

Abstract:
The main focus of this thesis was to develop an accessible home-based isometric exercise training (IET) protocol for the reduction of resting blood pressure (BP). Hypertension is estimated to affect nearly 30% of the world’s population (WHO, 2012) and represents an inordinate health and economic burden worldwide. A growing body of research suggests that IET can lower resting BP. However, the majority of studies have utilised expensive and/or laboratory-based equipment, which may not be accessible to the general population. To this end, the studies within this thesis explored whether the novel

Abstract:
Samples of wheat that had been stored in homes up to 48 years were collected with information about age and storage conditions. Germination, weight per bushel, protein, moisture, grade, and aroma were investigated. Volumes of gluten balls and bread made from ground whole wheat samples were measured. Sensory attributes of bread were evaluated by Quantitative Descriptive Analysis (QDA) for eight flavor and seven texture characteristics. Because of the tremendous variation in samples, generalizations on cause and effect are difficult to make. No one criterion was a perfect indicator of quality. A

Sibling caretaking, although common across time and cultures, has not been well researched from the carer’s point of view. In Nicaragua, ranked as one of the poorest countries in the Americas, sibling caretaking is common. The country’s historical background and its state of chronic poverty, widespread unemployment, loose family structures, and migration and mobility makes of the old practise of shared management child care a necessity. Households headed by sing¬le mothers constitute a particular Nica¬raguan charact¬eristic. Many children are expected to help in their own families and care for

Abstract:
With automation, every aspect of office work becomes streamlined, on-line, and universally accessible. This eliminates the need for a hierarchical work structure, and for spatially and temporally bounded offices. When traditional cultural constructs are abandoned through telecommunication and electronic technologies, both home and work need to be redefined. Because the workplace is being transplanted into the home, workers must establish boundaries between these two worlds to substitute for the loss of office social interaction and to balance professional and personal life. The design approach of IntuiSec is to introduce a layer of indirection between user-level intent and the system-level security infrastructure. This layer is implemented by a collection of distributed middleware and user-level tools. It encapsulates system-level security events and exposes only concepts and real-world metaphors
