Abstract:
AbstractCriticism of homoeopathy started in Germany as soon as this new form of medicine became widely known-and has not stopped since. Early criticism came from non-homoeopaths and centred around the theme that homoeopathy's basic assumptions were not supported by demonstrable facts. Simultaneously, criticism from within homoeopathy attacked some of the rigid, dogmatic rules set out by Hahnemann. Today's opponents of homoeopathy argue predominantly that the efficacy of homoeopathic remedies beyond that of placebo has not been established. Polemic and emotive as this historical debate has been, much of it makes sense to the outside observer. Homoeopaths, it seems, would be well advised to take the reasoned elements of this criticism seriously. They might even attempt to turn seemingly unfair attacks into constructively working towards determining the truth.

Abstract:
Background: After Dr. Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann, several stalwarts appeared on the horizon of Homoeopathy, one of these was Dr. Richard Hughes who practiced in the 19th century and stood out because of his philosophical approach. He was a staunch supporter as well as a critic of Hahnemann. He incorporated the latest scientific developments of the time in his practice, making his philosophy unique and progressive. We believe his philosophy will inspire the present generation of homoeopaths to explore homoeopath in the light of cutting-edge scientific inventions. Methods: A search of literature, including writings, lectures, and articles written by Dr. Hughes, was done Web pages, Google Search, etc., were explored related to him between April 2020 and July 2020 based on the search results an idea about Hughes’s homoeopathic concept and philosophy was constructed which has been highlighted below. Results: Dr. Hughes strongly endorsed Hahnemann’s Similia principle, but rarely used other theories such as Theory of Miasm, Theory of Vital force, and Doctrine of drug dynamization. According to him, similarity should be established between the drug pathogenesy and disease pathogenesis. He advocated low potency prescription, pragmatic, antimystical Homoeopathy and followed the 4th edition of Organon of Medicine. More stress on pathology, opposition to clinical symptoms, and drug proving on animals were the main features of his philosophy. He aimed for the middle path between Homoeopathy and orthodox. He was respected in the homoeopathic and allopathic fraternities and was known as the 3Xer or Half Homoeopath. Conclusion: The understanding and teachings of Dr Hughes regarding Homoeopathy are pragmatic, transparent, and simple. He endorsed and practiced only symptom similarity between patient and medicine. He criticized the baseless explanations of homoeopathic theories and interpreted phenomena in the light of scientific development and inventions.

Abstract:
The 19th century saw the development of an eclectic medical marketplace in both the United Kingdom and the United States, with mesmerists, herbalists and hydrotherapists amongst the plethora of medical ‘sectarians’ offering mainstream (or ‘allopathic’) medicine stiff competition. Foremost amongst these competitors were homoeopaths, a group of practitioners who followed Samuel Hahnemann (1982[1810]) in prescribing highly dilute doses of single-drug substances at infrequent intervals according to the ‘law of similars’ (like cures like). The theoretical sophistication of homoeopathy, compared to other medical sectarian systems, alongside its institutional growth after the mid-19th-century cholera epidemics, led to homoeopathy presenting a challenge to allopathy that the latter could not ignore. Whilst the subsequent decline of homoeopathy at the beginning of the 20th century was the result of multiple factors, including developments within medical education, the Progressive movement, and wider socio-economic changes, this article focuses on allopathy’s response to homoeopathy’s conceptual challenge. Using the theoretical framework of Berger and Luckmann (1991[1966]) and taking a Tory historiographical approach (Fuller, 2002) to recover more fully 19th-century homoeopathic knowledge, this article demonstrates how increasingly sophisticated ‘nihilative’ strategies were ultimately successful in neutralising homoeopathy and that homoeopaths were defeated by allopaths (rather than disproven) at the conceptual level. In this process, the therapeutic use of ‘nosodes’ (live disease products) and the language of bacteriology were pivotal. For their part, homoeopaths failed to mount a counter-attack against allopaths with an explanatory framework available to them.

Abstract:
AbstractLarge scale data collection combined with modern information technology is a powerful tool to evaluate the efficacy and safety of homoeopathy. It also has great potential to improve homoeopathic practice. Data collection has not been widely used in homoeopathy. This appears to be due to the clumsiness sof the methodology and the perception that it is of little value to daily practice. 3 protocols addressing different aspects of this issue are presented.- A proposal to establish common basic data collection methodology for homoeopaths throughout Europe.- A systematic survey of the results of homoeopathic treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis using quality of life and objective assessments.- Verification of a set of homoeopathic prescribing features for Rhus toxicodendron. These proposals are designed to be ‘user-friendly’ and to provide practical information relevant to daily homoeopathic practice.

Abstract:
Objectives: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is one of the most puzzling and complex of the neurodevelopmental disorders, especially regarding its diagnosis and management. The objective of this study was to achieve an in-depth understanding of the various challenges faced by a homoeopath and how homoeopathy is to be used conjointly with other ancillary measures in managing ASD. The case series highlights these and presents an integrated understanding of various concepts required by a homoeopath in effectively managing children with ASD. Materials and Methods: Detailed histories of the two cases were taken from the caregivers. Both patients were also observed in their day-to-day functioning, at school and during therapies. This further contributed to the early detection and diagnosis, planning appropriate management strategies, assessing the action of the selected remedy and deriving inferences. Homoeopathic treatment was used along with the required ancillary measures. Results: The challenges in managing the cases were mainly with respect to formulating a diagnosis, understanding the importance of disease evolution, differentiating between the common and the characteristic symptoms of the disease, application of homoeopathic principles and arriving at a similimum. On reflection, it showed the value of using the bio-psychosocial model to highlight the relationships among the different forces, determine the evolution in individual cases and emphasise the need for holistic intervention. The importance of a sound knowledge of the principles of homoeopathy and their correct application to arrive at a similimum was also learnt through reviewing the results of intervention. Further, the results showed that homoeopathy along with ancillary measures helped to bring about a significant change in functioning on all fronts and a better adaptation of the children to their environments. Conclusion: Homoeopathic intervention in children with autism holds a promise. Integration with ancillary measures enhances the outcome. Homoeopaths would need to train themselves in applying the bio-psychosocial model and integrating it with homoeopathic principles to ensure a favourable outcome. The findings of this study can provide important leads for professionals involved in the care of children with ASD and the affected families.

Abstract:
AbstractCuriously, classical homoeopathy has departed from the unalloyed homoeopathy which Hahnemann developed. The actual discrepancies between Hahnemann's homoeopathy and classical homoeopathy are astounding. The distinction began with the theory of chronic diseases, the miasms, that Hahnemann put forward in 1828. This led to the ignoring of the rules and principles he laid down in his work, The Chronic Diseases. Since then, classical homoeopaths have disregarded the later works of Hahnemann and have adhered to the earlier editions of The Organon. Hering's practice does not confirm to the principles and rules laid down by Hahnemann in The Chronic Diseases, even though Hering praises the genius of Hahnemann's theory of the miasms. He also propagated classical homoeopathy in America; therefore, the last and very fruitful 15 years of Hahnemann's research remains widely unaccounted for in the English literature. The cleft in Germany between classical and Hahnemannian homoeopathy started in the 1830s and the magazine Die Allgemeine Homöopathische Zeitung became the journal for classical homoeopathy. These classical homoeopaths laid down the fundamentals of the homoeopathy they adhered to, and Hahnemann's homoeopathy went into the shadows; it was practised by a very few. Now it is time to revive Hahnemann's homoeopathy and remind people of his extraordinary insights and of their effectiveness.

Abstract:
Abstract Background Homoeopathy is the newest art and science of healing. Like conventional medicine, pharmacovigilance is an important aspect of homoeopathy. There is a paucity of knowledge and ignorance among the practitioners. The necessity is to create awareness and encourage the homoeopathic professionals regarding drug safety surveillance, documentation and reporting of adverse events. Methods A web-based online search from databases, journals, bibliographic resources regarding the practice of pharmacovigilance in homoeopathy was done. Articles and publications till January 2021 along with literature from homoeopathic books were analysed. Results Data on adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and events in homoeopathy have been collected and reported in European countries. In India, of late these terminologies are being acknowledged among a group of homoeopathic practitioners only. Still, a dearth of cognizance on the subject exists and little reporting is done. People usually do not relate such adverse reactions to the use of homoeopathic medicines. For scrutinising the same, the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, has taken an initiative for Pharmacovigilance of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani & Homoeopathy systems of medicine for reporting and taking measures against ADR and objectionable advertisements. The probable risk factors and ways to prevent ADR and benefits of pharmacovigilance in homoeopathic practice could be deduced. Conclusion Homoeopathy is a widely followed system of medicine that is quite popular among the common people. The need of knowledge and promotion of suspected ADR reporting should be emphasised to increase the credibility of homoeopathy among the scientific community. Also, the profession should refrain from misleading and objectionable advertisements in print and electronic media.

Abstract:
Homoeopathy is an alternative medical treatment developed in Germany by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. He proposed two theories about homoeopathy: “Like cures Like” and the “Law of Minimum Dose”. The objective for this study was to evaluate the level of awareness about homoeopathic medical treatment among university students. A Questionnaire was developed containing five basic questions related to homeopathic medical sciences. 500 students from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Pakistan were selected for this study. The only 5% university students used homoeopathic medicines in their live. From our research, it was concluded that awareness about homoeopathy among students is not up to the mark. While, homoeopathy awareness may make the world a healthier, and happier place.

Abstract:
This study aims to investigate whether homoeopathydeclinedn Britainduring the second half of the nineteenth centurywhen anemerging medicalprofession converged with the dawn of biomedicine. Previousstudies of the history of homoeopathy are often coloured by controversies over homoeopathy odayy To avoid the pitfalls of a presentist definition of homoeopathy and a dichotomous view of the relationship between homoeopathy and orthodox medicine, I analyse 'homoeopathy' as a social identityrather than a medical system or a collection of medical institutions. This study focuses on the homoeopathies' of medicallyy-ualified practitioners. I identify two important aspects of the socialdentity of professional homoeopaths: the idea of scientific medicine, and the identification with themedical profession. In this thesis I trace how the changes in these two aspectswereranslated into new homoeopathic practicetheories, andrelationships with themedical profession and lay public between 1866 and 1893I examine theextensive discussions among professional British homoeopaths regarding medical theoryand practice, and heir relationship with other medical practitioners and the publicas representedn homoeopathic journalspublications and archival sources during the time periodd This study challenges four prevailing notions in the historiography of heterodox medicine: the use of dichotomous frameworks to analyse acon~icting relationship between heterodox and orthodox medicines, the negligence of the deasof science in heterodox medicine, the notion of the ~decline~ of heterodox medicine during the second half of the nineteenth centuryand a grand narrativeof Angloo-axon homoeopathy. I conclude that professional homoeopathydid not decline' or become 'static' during the second half of the nineteenthcenturyn BritainnProfessional homoeopaths identified themselves first as scientific and professionalpractitioners rather than homoeopathic physicians. Homoeopathy' did not establishtself as an independent identity and its practitioners gradually merged withorthodoxynhe name of scientific medicine.

Abstract:
Homoeopathic practitioners in the United Kingdom can be divided into two groups, those with medical qualifications and those without, professional homoeopaths. This study examines these two groups to discover how they practise homoeopathy and why. Also examined are any tensions that may exist, both between the two groups and within the groups. Collecting qualitative and quantitative data using questionnaires and interviews, a randomly selected sample of homoeopaths was studied. All subjects were members of either the Faculty of Homoeopathy or the Society of Homoeopaths. The study starts by examining the development of homoeopathy over its almost 200 year history. Following this section data regarding the practice of homoeopathy and the opinions of homoeopaths on this practice are discussed. The homoeopath's opinions regarding their opposite numbers are also discussed, that is professional homoeopath's opinions of medically qualified homoeopaths and vice versa. The data highlighted a number of tensions that exist between medically qualified homoeopaths and professional homoeopaths. Medically qualified homoeopaths questioned the wisdom of allowing non-medically qualified people to practice homoeopathy and the professional homoeopaths questioned the validity of the homoeopathic methods used by medically qualified homoeopaths. Tensions within professional homoeopathy were also identified between pro and anti professionalisation and registration subgroups. Another tension identified was between those professional homoeopaths who claim to use the original, 'classical' formulation of homoeopathy and those using a more eclectic therapeutic regime with changes to the original method incorporated into their practices. Finally, the utility of the concept of heresy when describing both medically qualified homoeopaths and professional homoeopaths in the United Kingdom was addressed. Although the labelling of heretics is properly reserved for those members of the orthodoxy, not for researchers, a small number of homoeopaths were identified as holding potentially heretical ideas. On the whole the medically qualified homoeopaths and the majority of professional homoeopaths could not be regarded as heretics or dissenters in any way. In the light of the tensions that were identified, and the policies being promoted by the professional bodies, the conclusion examines the possible future of homoeopathy in the United Kingdom in the first years of the new millennium. A thoroughly modernist medicine in a possibly postmodern era.

The objective was to evaluate the vigor of corn seeds treated with homeopathic solutions. The experiments were done at the Laboratory of Soybean Breeding DFT/UFV. The homeopathic medicines were prepared at the Laboratory of Homeopathy of DFT/UFV in distilled water and applied in the "double-blind" procedure. Sixteen gerbox containing 40 mL of water with 100 seeds of corn, cultivar UFVM 100 Nativo, were covered with germitest paper. They were placed in B.O.D and submitted to the accelerated aging at 42ºC for 96 hours in the darkness. Normal seeds and aged seeds were divided in 4 replications of 50 seeds, weighted and soaked in solution containing 75 mL of distilled water, plus 2 mL of the homeopathic medicine for 24 hours. After completing 24 hours of soak the electrical conductivity of the solution was determined. The seeds were weighted and calculated the mass earnings of the seeds, which were distributed in rolls of germitest paper and placed in germination chamber at 25ºC. The analyses were done in 4th and 7th day after test beginning and the data were submitted to variance analysis and mean test. First trial: Antimonium crudum applied in the dinamizations 10CH to 15CH in normal corn seeds and aged seeds and distilled water as a control. Normal plantlets, length of the primary root, length of the aerial part and total length of the seedlings were determined. Aged seeds treated with 10CH to 15CH generated more normal plantlets than the control. Aged seeds treated with respectively 11CH and 14CH gave rise to larger and smaller growth of the primaryn root. Normal seeds treated with 14CH generated seedlings with smaller growth and total length. Second trial: the response of corn seeds was evaluated after aging and treatment with Arsenicum album 10CH to 15CH and the controls aged seed and normal seed, both treated with distilled water. Electrical conductivity, mass of the seed after aging, mass of the seed after 24 hours of soak, mass earnings, mass of the fresh seedlings, mass of dried aerial part, mass of the dried plantlets were determined. There was no significant difference among the variables when compared to control 1 (aged seed). All treatments from 10CH to 15CH caused decrease in leaching and mass earning of the seeds compared to control 2. The treatments 10CH, 11CH, 13CH and 15CH gave rise to lowest mass of fresh plantlets, however all treatments caused reduction in the mass of dried plantlets. The treatments 10CH, 11CH, 12CH, 13CH and 15CH caused mass decrease of dried aerial part.

The feijoa Acca sellowiana is a native specie from Planalto Serrano Catarinense region and it has high potential to be developed as cash crop, besides its ecological function in the ecosystem. In another hand, pest and diseases has been common under cultivated conditions but not confirmed in the natural conditions as well. The main problems point out were fruit fly Anastrepha sp., Conotrachelus sp. weevil, and anthracnose Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. The objective of this work was to study the entomofauna of feijoa, with focus on Conotrachelus sp., fruit fly and anthracnose, and their management strategies throughout homoeopathic preparations and traps. Samples of adults of weevil were sent to expertise for identification. Feijoa fruits from monoculture systems and natural ecosystems were collected and weevil damage was assessed. The weevil dissemination into orchard was studied on trees at different spacing with and without obstacle around the trunk. Population fluctuation of fruit fly and other entomofauna species on feijoa were monitored by traps with grape juice at 20% installed inside the monoculture orchard and natural ecosystem capões in the Planalto Serrano Catarinense region. The effect of homoeopathic preparations on entomofauna was evaluated throughout homoeopathic traps. Bio-essays were conducted under controlled conditions to verified the attractiveness of homoeopathic preparations to weevil by treated bags with feijoa fruits under free choice arena. The fungus Beauveria bassiana e Metarhizium anisopliae were tested for biological control to weevil, by spraying spore suspension over adults and keeping in box under room conditions. Homoeopathic preparations were evaluated for controlling feijoa leaf diseases under field conditions in completely randomised design. Results confirmed the identity of feijoa weevil as Conotrachelus psidii, the same specie that occur on Psidium guajava. The weevil C. psidii does not move upside trunk and its damage is higher on feijoa monoculture orchard than natural ecosystems. Fruit fly was also more trapped in feijoa monoculture orchard. Homeopathic preparation of Silicea 30CH repelled weevil C. psidii. The entomopathogenic fungus B. bassiana e M. anisopliae were not effective to control C. psidii. Tannin homoeopathic preparation at 30CH increased the attractiveness of grape juice traps. Carbo vegetabilis at 30CH reduced the incidence of anthracnose and Capnodium sp. on feijoa leaves. The progenies from Uruguay and Brazil showed genetic resistance sources for using to manage anthracnose and cercosporiose diseases under field conditions

Tinea pedis, more commonly known as “Athlete’s foot”, is a common acute infection that occurs in warm, humid climates (Fitzpatrick, et al. 1992:98). Warmth, humidity, trauma and occlusion such as non-breathable footwear increase the susceptibility to infection (Prescott, et al. 1999:814). The infection can become chronic in people who are more susceptible such as patients who are immuno-suppressed or those who have Diabetes mellitus (al Hassan, et al. 2004: 1). The aim of this placebo-controlled double-blind study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a topical naturopathic complex comprising of Allium sativum mother tincture (Ø), Hydrastis canadensis (Ø), Apis mellifica (D3) and Urtica urens (D3) (in an aqueous cream base) in the treatment of Tinea pedis. The complex utilized in this study is regarded as naturopathic because the remedies comprising the complex were selected for the following reasons: •Allium sativum and Hydrastis canadensis, each utilized in mother tincture, were selected for their antifungal properties. •Apis mellifica and Urtica urens, each utilized in D3 potency were selected because their skin symptomotology most accurately matched the symptoms associated with “Athlete’s foot”.
