Abstract:
AbstractCriticism of homoeopathy started in Germany as soon as this new form of medicine became widely known-and has not stopped since. Early criticism came from non-homoeopaths and centred around the theme that homoeopathy's basic assumptions were not supported by demonstrable facts. Simultaneously, criticism from within homoeopathy attacked some of the rigid, dogmatic rules set out by Hahnemann. Today's opponents of homoeopathy argue predominantly that the efficacy of homoeopathic remedies beyond that of placebo has not been established. Polemic and emotive as this historical debate has been, much of it makes sense to the outside observer. Homoeopaths, it seems, would be well advised to take the reasoned elements of this criticism seriously. They might even attempt to turn seemingly unfair attacks into constructively working towards determining the truth.

Abstract:
Background: After Dr. Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann, several stalwarts appeared on the horizon of Homoeopathy, one of these was Dr. Richard Hughes who practiced in the 19th century and stood out because of his philosophical approach. He was a staunch supporter as well as a critic of Hahnemann. He incorporated the latest scientific developments of the time in his practice, making his philosophy unique and progressive. We believe his philosophy will inspire the present generation of homoeopaths to explore homoeopath in the light of cutting-edge scientific inventions. Methods: A search of literature, including writings, lectures, and articles written by Dr. Hughes, was done Web pages, Google Search, etc., were explored related to him between April 2020 and July 2020 based on the search results an idea about Hughes’s homoeopathic concept and philosophy was constructed which has been highlighted below. Results: Dr. Hughes strongly endorsed Hahnemann’s Similia principle, but rarely used other theories such as Theory of Miasm, Theory of Vital force, and Doctrine of drug dynamization. According to him, similarity should be established between the drug pathogenesy and disease pathogenesis. He advocated low potency prescription, pragmatic, antimystical Homoeopathy and followed the 4th edition of Organon of Medicine. More stress on pathology, opposition to clinical symptoms, and drug proving on animals were the main features of his philosophy. He aimed for the middle path between Homoeopathy and orthodox. He was respected in the homoeopathic and allopathic fraternities and was known as the 3Xer or Half Homoeopath. Conclusion: The understanding and teachings of Dr Hughes regarding Homoeopathy are pragmatic, transparent, and simple. He endorsed and practiced only symptom similarity between patient and medicine. He criticized the baseless explanations of homoeopathic theories and interpreted phenomena in the light of scientific development and inventions.

Abstract:
The 19th century saw the development of an eclectic medical marketplace in both the United Kingdom and the United States, with mesmerists, herbalists and hydrotherapists amongst the plethora of medical ‘sectarians’ offering mainstream (or ‘allopathic’) medicine stiff competition. Foremost amongst these competitors were homoeopaths, a group of practitioners who followed Samuel Hahnemann (1982[1810]) in prescribing highly dilute doses of single-drug substances at infrequent intervals according to the ‘law of similars’ (like cures like). The theoretical sophistication of homoeopathy, compared to other medical sectarian systems, alongside its institutional growth after the mid-19th-century cholera epidemics, led to homoeopathy presenting a challenge to allopathy that the latter could not ignore. Whilst the subsequent decline of homoeopathy at the beginning of the 20th century was the result of multiple factors, including developments within medical education, the Progressive movement, and wider socio-economic changes, this article focuses on allopathy’s response to homoeopathy’s conceptual challenge. Using the theoretical framework of Berger and Luckmann (1991[1966]) and taking a Tory historiographical approach (Fuller, 2002) to recover more fully 19th-century homoeopathic knowledge, this article demonstrates how increasingly sophisticated ‘nihilative’ strategies were ultimately successful in neutralising homoeopathy and that homoeopaths were defeated by allopaths (rather than disproven) at the conceptual level. In this process, the therapeutic use of ‘nosodes’ (live disease products) and the language of bacteriology were pivotal. For their part, homoeopaths failed to mount a counter-attack against allopaths with an explanatory framework available to them.

AbstractLarge scale data collection combined with modern information technology is a powerful tool to evaluate the efficacy and safety of homoeopathy. It also has great potential to improve homoeopathic practice. Data collection has not been widely used in homoeopathy. This appears to be due to the clumsiness sof the methodology and the perception that it is of little value to daily practice. 3 protocols addressing different aspects of this issue are presented.- A proposal to establish common basic data collection methodology for homoeopaths throughout Europe.- A systematic survey of the results of homoeopathic treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis using quality of life and objective assessments.- Verification of a set of homoeopathic prescribing features for Rhus toxicodendron. These proposals are designed to be ‘user-friendly’ and to provide practical information relevant to daily homoeopathic practice.

Abstract:
Objectives: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is one of the most puzzling and complex of the neurodevelopmental disorders, especially regarding its diagnosis and management. The objective of this study was to achieve an in-depth understanding of the various challenges faced by a homoeopath and how homoeopathy is to be used conjointly with other ancillary measures in managing ASD. The case series highlights these and presents an integrated understanding of various concepts required by a homoeopath in effectively managing children with ASD. Materials and Methods: Detailed histories of the two cases were taken from the caregivers. Both patients were also observed in their day-to-day functioning, at school and during therapies. This further contributed to the early detection and diagnosis, planning appropriate management strategies, assessing the action of the selected remedy and deriving inferences. Homoeopathic treatment was used along with the required ancillary measures. Results: The challenges in managing the cases were mainly with respect to formulating a diagnosis, understanding the importance of disease evolution, differentiating between the common and the characteristic symptoms of the disease, application of homoeopathic principles and arriving at a similimum. On reflection, it showed the value of using the bio-psychosocial model to highlight the relationships among the different forces, determine the evolution in individual cases and emphasise the need for holistic intervention. The importance of a sound knowledge of the principles of homoeopathy and their correct application to arrive at a similimum was also learnt through reviewing the results of intervention. Further, the results showed that homoeopathy along with ancillary measures helped to bring about a significant change in functioning on all fronts and a better adaptation of the children to their environments. Conclusion: Homoeopathic intervention in children with autism holds a promise. Integration with ancillary measures enhances the outcome. Homoeopaths would need to train themselves in applying the bio-psychosocial model and integrating it with homoeopathic principles to ensure a favourable outcome. The findings of this study can provide important leads for professionals involved in the care of children with ASD and the affected families.

Abstract:
AbstractCuriously, classical homoeopathy has departed from the unalloyed homoeopathy which Hahnemann developed. The actual discrepancies between Hahnemann's homoeopathy and classical homoeopathy are astounding. The distinction began with the theory of chronic diseases, the miasms, that Hahnemann put forward in 1828. This led to the ignoring of the rules and principles he laid down in his work, The Chronic Diseases. Since then, classical homoeopaths have disregarded the later works of Hahnemann and have adhered to the earlier editions of The Organon. Hering's practice does not confirm to the principles and rules laid down by Hahnemann in The Chronic Diseases, even though Hering praises the genius of Hahnemann's theory of the miasms. He also propagated classical homoeopathy in America; therefore, the last and very fruitful 15 years of Hahnemann's research remains widely unaccounted for in the English literature. The cleft in Germany between classical and Hahnemannian homoeopathy started in the 1830s and the magazine Die Allgemeine Homöopathische Zeitung became the journal for classical homoeopathy. These classical homoeopaths laid down the fundamentals of the homoeopathy they adhered to, and Hahnemann's homoeopathy went into the shadows; it was practised by a very few. Now it is time to revive Hahnemann's homoeopathy and remind people of his extraordinary insights and of their effectiveness.

Abstract:
Abstract Background Homoeopathy is the newest art and science of healing. Like conventional medicine, pharmacovigilance is an important aspect of homoeopathy. There is a paucity of knowledge and ignorance among the practitioners. The necessity is to create awareness and encourage the homoeopathic professionals regarding drug safety surveillance, documentation and reporting of adverse events. Methods A web-based online search from databases, journals, bibliographic resources regarding the practice of pharmacovigilance in homoeopathy was done. Articles and publications till January 2021 along with literature from homoeopathic books were analysed. Results Data on adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and events in homoeopathy have been collected and reported in European countries. In India, of late these terminologies are being acknowledged among a group of homoeopathic practitioners only. Still, a dearth of cognizance on the subject exists and little reporting is done. People usually do not relate such adverse reactions to the use of homoeopathic medicines. For scrutinising the same, the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, has taken an initiative for Pharmacovigilance of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani & Homoeopathy systems of medicine for reporting and taking measures against ADR and objectionable advertisements. The probable risk factors and ways to prevent ADR and benefits of pharmacovigilance in homoeopathic practice could be deduced. Conclusion Homoeopathy is a widely followed system of medicine that is quite popular among the common people. The need of knowledge and promotion of suspected ADR reporting should be emphasised to increase the credibility of homoeopathy among the scientific community. Also, the profession should refrain from misleading and objectionable advertisements in print and electronic media.

Homoeopathy is an alternative medical treatment developed in Germany by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. He proposed two theories about homoeopathy: “Like cures Like” and the “Law of Minimum Dose”. The objective for this study was to evaluate the level of awareness about homoeopathic medical treatment among university students. A Questionnaire was developed containing five basic questions related to homeopathic medical sciences. 500 students from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Pakistan were selected for this study. The only 5% university students used homoeopathic medicines in their live. From our research, it was concluded that awareness about homoeopathy among students is not up to the mark. AbstractBasic information on the history of vaccination and anti-vaccinationism in the US and Germany is followed by discussion of the various opportunities for homeopaths to assess vaccination and the different assessments made in the early history of homoeopathy. Attitudes to vaccination are explored in American homoeopathic publications (books, selected journals, family medical guides). American homoeopathy is shown to have tended toward integration with conventional medicine rather than criticism of and opposition to it. Late 19th century American homoeopathy is shown to have been influenced by non-homoeopathic ideas. It did, however, have some characteristic ways of focusing on diseases, especially chronic diseases and their treatment in a specifically homoeopathic way, with homoeopathic physicians thinking in terms of ‘constitution’ and showing therapeutic optimism.

Abstract:
AbstractAmong homoeopaths the idea of specialist provision for children followed the general trend. It was encouraged by the high morbidity and mortality among children due to poverty. The prevalence of tuberculosis, syphilis and the infectious fevers, together with the ignorance about hygiene of mothers of young children, were all factors of concern. Homoeopathic physicians and their supporters wished to give poor children the benefits of their system, which they believed could deal more efficaciously with the risks to their health. Homoeopathic specialist units gradually disappeared, partly due to the NHS and partly because the factors which stimulated their inception no longer applied. Homoeopathy itself became the speciality.

Abstract:
Homoeopathy is one of the most widely used forms of complementary medicine in the West. However, its methods and philosophical underpinnings are basically polarized in relation to those of conventional medicine. Many homoeopathic patients choose to continue using conventional medicine while they receive homoeopathy, but from a homoeopathic perspective, these treatments are often regarded as undesirable or even damaging. This article will utilize the principles of conversation analysis (CA) to explore points in homoeopathic consultations where practitioners address their patients’ use of conventional medications. It will be suggested that approaches which display a degree of incorporation are preferred to those which imply categorical rejection. By not emphasizing the underlying tensions between conventional and homoeopathic paradigms, and displaying an adaptive and inclusive approach, homoeopathy essentially sets itself up as a parallel (i.e. equal) system, rather than one that is purely in opposition to the dominant medical model.

AbstractAt the end of the last century, debate on the pros and cons of homoeopathy was lively in Germany. By 1920 it had died down almost entirely and homoeopathy seemed to have gone into a decline. In 1925 the prominent surgeon August Bier published a paper which immediately revived the discussion and helped homoeopathy become a prevalent form of treatment again in Germany. His paper and the at times emotional exchanges that followed were directly responsible for a change of climate in the discussion between homoeopaths and representatives of the conventional school, a number of clinical investigations into the question of clinical efficacy and the creation of a university chair of homoeopathy in 1929. Reading this story one can hardly help being impressed and amused by similarities between then and now.

AbstractA review of classical and contemporary textbooks showed that although the term homoeopathy is widely known and used, it remains ambiguous and vague. In an attempt towards clarification we present a review of Hahnemann's definition of the term and conclude that it refers to the outcome of interaction between two different vital affections which, however, have very similar effects on living organisms. We found that Hahnemann used examples to demonstrate the homoeopathic phenomena and postulated that homoeopathy could exist without experimental provings in healthy individuals, infinitesimal doses, dynamization and single medicines, all of which are fundamental elements in his methodology. We also discuss the benefits of using one strict conceptual definition of homoeopathy. This can contribute to recognition of the homoeopathic phenomenon in nature and in medical practice.

Abstract:
Objectives: Lifestyle disorders such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases eventually affect the kidneys, often causing renal failure. The current gold standard methods for managing renal failure are renal replacement therapy and haemodialysis. Unfortunately, dialysis deteriorates the patient’s quality of life (QOL). Homoeopaths rarely treat cases with such advanced irreversible pathology; the scope of homoeopathy in such cases is, therefore, unclear. We observed the effect of homoeopathy as an adjuvant on the QOL in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The QOL was assessed using the Marathi version of the Kidney Disease QOL Short Form 1.3 (KDQOL SF version 1.3). Materials and Methods: Three Indian patients with ESRD (two men and one woman, individualized ages 38, 50 and 54 years) consented to have their data published. The cases were managed with constitutional homoeopathic remedies in the 50 millesimal (LM) potency as an adjuvant to their current allopathic medications and were observed for 6 months. They were assessed with the Marathi version of the KDQOL SF 1.3 before and after homoeopathic management along with regular haemodialysis. Results: The patients showed significant improvements in the QOL, especially in the areas of sleep, pain, symptoms and problems, cognitive functioning, emotional well-being and social functioning, as assessed based on the increase in scores in their respective domains. Conclusion: The results of the observations are promising and in concurrence with homoeopathic philosophy; the benefits of constitutional medicines were seen. All three patients showed an improvement in their QOL. However, studies with larger sample size and randomised controlled trial study design are suggested. Homoeopathic constitutional treatment has a significant impact on the QOL in patients with ESRD.

Scientific publications are possible only after completing proper documented research work. Research is one of the important methods for ensuring that the homoeopathic discipline keeps growing. A case report is one type of research design; it can be conducted with minimal resources. Case reports are, therefore, valuable despite being at the bottom of the ladder in terms of scientific evidence. It allows a physician to share their unique clinical experience/s in a peer group. Experiences of using homoeopathic concepts in different clinical situations and widening the scope of homoeopathy can be shared through this method. Case reports provide an opportunity to train young physicians to learn observation skills and use the scientific method to convey valuable clinical experience/s. The CARE guidelines are the gold standard guidelines for writing a case report. A group of homoeopaths have recommended further modifications to these guidelines for writing homoeopathic case reports; these specific guidelines are termed the HOM-CASE guidelines.

Background: Since its discovery by Samuel Hahnemann over two centuries ago homoeopathy has gifted us many incredible cures, apart from many more cures of simple diseases. Moreover, it offers cheapest medicines. Still, it lacks wide acceptability. Its main reason is lack of scientific explanation, particularly for higher potencies -- Where is their medicinal value and how do they work? In trying to throw some light on such mysteries of homoeopathy this article arrives at a new and unifying concept of medicine. Method: Taking an earnest view of innumerable cures by homoeopathy many scientists from different fields are searching answers for the fundamental questions stated above. This article analyses logically sound and promising investigations. Results and Discussion: Indication is obtained that water structure holds the key to unlock the mystery of homoeopathy. Action mechanism of some main-stream medicines also supports the structural model. Together they lead to a generalized concept of medicine. Conclusion: The above analysis points to the conclusion that medicinal value of both homoeopathic and non-homoeopathic medicines lies in structures. Key words: generalized concept of medicine, structure holds the key.

Objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic prevented people from accessing medical care in person; in such a scenario, telemedicine emerged as a boon. Telemedicine helped to increase the availability of homoeopathy during the pandemic. The Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) formulated guidelines to enable registered homoeopathic practitioners (RHPs) to safely provide healthcare using telemedicine. In this study, we demonstrated the scope of telemedicine in homoeopathic practice by incorporating Hahnemannian principles in a case-based learning (CBL) module. Materials and Methods: A retrospective purposive study was conducted on 10 acute cases that were treated with homoeopathy through telemedicine during the COVID-19 lockdown. Patient-physician communications were analysed using Hahnemannian principles. Cases were assessed based on telecommunication application, type of consent, symptoms, signs, nosological provisional diagnosis, risk assessment, comorbidity, miasm and susceptibility status, totality of symptoms, repetition strategy and type of consult. Therapeutic management included building a logical framework of the case and auxiliary counselling. Patients were followed up to determine their health status. Results: All 10 cases were successfully treated with homoeopathy using AYUSH Telemedicine Practice Guidelines (ATPG) and incorporating Hahnemannian principles. Tele-homoeopathy was found to be effective in the pandemic by preventing disease spread and progression from mild to severe stage. Conclusion: Adhering to the ATPG and incorporating Hahnemannian principles can be effectively demonstrated through CBL modules; these enable RHPs to develop rational thinking and learn from clinical experiences.

Background: Homoeopathy is a medical science that should be practiced with evidence. As a practitioner, I was keen to show how Homoeopathy can give relief in this pandemic where conventional therapy was also struggling to offer treatment. Homoeopathic remedies given in Covid-19 cases in my OPD were prescribed to patients 1. who took only Homoeopathy, 2. who took Allopathy but got no relief and 3. hospitalized yet got relief with Homoeopathy. Few cases which did not get symptomatic relief were advised to stop treatment. Aims: To see the efficacy of Homoeopathy in treating covid 19 patients – with mild, moderate, and severe symptoms. Methodology: Data collected after permission from the patients to share case studies for Homoeopathy treatment of Covid-19 were obtained from GraceHealing Homeopathy clinic in Nagpur were categorized as mild to moderate and moderate to severe as per AYUSH guidelines; similimum with matching potency prescribed after detailed case inquiry, and regular Follow-ups were done until patients felt relief. Hypothesis: To see the action of Homoeopathy similimum - as a palliative, curative, and no action in treating covid-19 cases. Results: Homoeopathy has shown definite results in mild to moderate and moderate to severe cases up to 80% relief in mild to moderate 60% in moderate to severe. Mild to moderate cases where only Homoeopathy was given: China-ars, Ferrum-p, and Gelsemium were satisfactory. Baptisia and Carb-v adjuvant to Allopathy was also satisfactory. In hospitalized severe case gave relief, where Allopathy did not help. If Homoeopathy was given in such cases, it acts in increasing the immunity to make healing faster: Kali carb and Nux vomica satisfactory. Conclusion: With detailed case inquiry, symptomatic treatment with simillimum in correct potency can give Covid 19 patients relief.

The principles of homoeopathy are to be revisited within the current context and more catered approaches for expansion of the Materia Medica with its application are the immediate requirements. This is possible primarily with Dr Hahnemann's versatile approach and principles, which stand the test of time, and secondarily due to the fact that chemotherapeutic dependence has permanently created negative imprints on human ability to fight diseases/external infections. Methods A literature review of the existing knowledge of homoeopathy and its classical literature was done using books, databases like ResearchGate, PubMed and archives from the World Wide Web. Homoeopathic approaches and applications were reviewed, for a more catered design. Modern medical terminology and its relevance were also explored, with homoeopathic explanations. Causes of virulence of COVID-19 and their probable relations to comorbidities and drug dependence are catered upon. Results Effectiveness of homoeopathy in management and prevention of epidemic outbreaks is well known. Literature and research have established immunomodulatory effects in vitro and in vivo. Application of this natural healing system to combat the after-effects of continued chemical interventions in large doses is sought. Conclusion Homoeopathy is a natural system of healing the ailing humans from diseases and an unquestioned method of detoxifying/antidoting the chemotherapeutic effects that render the human body susceptible to vague/novel diseases. Today, the challenge lies not only in diagnosis, but also in management of complexities in presentations of novel diseases and in restricting the transformation of simple infections into deadly outbreaks. Realisation of natural principles of healing is the urgent need.

Abstract:
AbstractRetrospective studies can be considered as the first step towards an evaluation and improvement of homoeopathic practice. Through these preliminary studies, criteria for future prospective studies can be chosen as well as suitable homoeopathic practitioners to conduct them. From this study, we can conclude that disorders of heart rhythm seem to be an excellent subject for research into the efficacy of homoeopathy. Especially for paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, all patients were cured and able to discontinue their allopathic medication. In view of the fact that 50% of the patients included in this study stopped the use of allopathic drugs, one can conclude that homoeopathy certainly has a place in the treatment strategy of these diseases.

AbstractA comparison is made between psychiatry and homoeopathy, with reference to five homoeopathic principles. These are the law of similars, the self-healing principle, the microdose effect, Hering's Law and diagnosis through pattern recognition. There is evidence that all of these have been incorporated into contemporary psychiatry, and that recent neurobiological research provides a measure of validation to these age-old teachings. Some testable research questions are also proposed.

AbstractThe main objective of this survey was to assess the attitude of General Practitioners (GPs) in Lothian, Scotland, to homoeopathy, with a view to deciding if there was sufficient support to justify the continuation and expansion of the NHS homoeopathic clinic in the area. The 540 GPs currently in practice were surveyed by means of a simple questionnaire which required them to tick selected boxes; many chose to add further comments. A total of 304 GPs (56%) responded. The questions were designed to elicit attitudes to homoeopathy and other complementary therapies and to assess the referral pattern for this. 92% of the respondents were willing to refer patients for homoeopathic treatment and 74% would welcome a specialist facility in Lothian. This level of support indicates that provision of an NHS specialist homoeopathic service in Lothian would be well-used.

Abstract:
AbstractPain is a common companion of people receiving palliative care in cancer and at the end of life. Cancer pain is multifactorial and complex. Its impact can be devastating, with increased morbidity and poor quality of life, if not treated adequately. Cancer pain management is a challenging task both due to disease process and due to treatment-related side effects; therefore, it requires a holistic approach which can be covered by homoeopathic remedies. The purpose of this article is to enlighten the scope and future perspective of homoeopathy in pain palliative care and at the end of life. This article summarises the need of multidimensional approach towards the cancer pain palliation and at the end of life in which homoeopathy may play a key role of supportive care. Homoeopathy may become a valuable treatment in palliative care to provide relief and comfort to the dying patient, and therefore the fear of death may reduce and the family may be better prepared for the bereavement. Homoeopathy can well integrate with standard oncologic cares to improve patient outcome including symptom burden, quality of life and end-of-life outcomes, all achieved with low associated costs.

AbstractThe north-eastern region of India accounts for a total of 37,448 cancer cases reported from 11 population-based cancer registries (PBCRs) from 2012 to 2014. Studies suggest that with the holistic approach adopted by homoeopathy, not only the symptoms like cancer pain are alleviated, but also the overall well-being of the patient. Homoeopathy can be beneficial to minimize the treatment-induced adverse effects like radiation-induced mucositis, skin reactions, postoperative seroma, bleeding, and complications associated with the use of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. This study intends to provide homoeopathic services as an add-on to conventional treatment to the patients referred for homoeopathic treatment after their due consent. The primary objective is to study the usefulness of homoeopathic medicines for combating the suffering of cancer patients having complaints other than cancer. A sample size of 70 patients per group in two arms (Arm A: standard allopathic drug and Arm B: standard allopathic drug + homoeopathic treatment) will be recruited using simple random sampling without repetition. Cancer patients reporting complaints other than cancer itself and suffering from the after-effects of cancer treatment with chemotherapy and radiation therapy to any reputed cancer institute will be screened and will be recruited according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. After completion of the six months study duration, results will be able to predict the role of homoeopathic treatment as an add-on to conventionally treated cancer patients to minimize the suffering other than cancer and the after-effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. If found significant, this could prove to be a contribution in the health care system in handling cancer cases that are very difficult to treat. Further, the cost-effectiveness of homoeopathy will enable developing countries to manage such a disease effectively.

AbstractCritical appraisal of a scientific trial involves deciding on its internal validity— whether the hypothesis has been correctly accepted or rejected—and its external validity—the extent to which the trial's findings can be generalized. Discourse on homoeopathic research has focused on the former at the expense of the latter and an analysis of homoeopathic research demonstrates that it has low external validity. One solution would be to split the research process in two. Large scale, triple-blind trials could be used to determine the extent to which the action of homoeopathy may be explained by placebo. Importantly, no assessment of external validity would be made. Audit and cohort studies could then be used to examine questions usually associated with external validity, such as the conditions most suitable for treatment and the long-term clinical value of homoeopathy.

Abstract:
A Peritonsillar abscess is also known as Quinsy. It is an accumulation of pus behind the palatine tonsil due to an infection. Precisely, it is a collection of pus between the fibrous capsule of the tonsil, usually at the upper pole & the superior constrictor muscles of pharynx. The signs & symptoms of quinsy include fever, throat pain, trouble in opening mouth, redness, swelling and change in the voice. Pain is usually worse on one side. The complications may include blockage of the airway or aspiration pneumonitis. The conventional treatment is done for removing the pus by incision & drainage along with medications for swelling & pain management. The homeopathic line of treatment depends on the actual state of the condition. Homeopathic medicines can be used in mild to moderate cases of peritonsillar abscess successfully as see through this research study. In this study, 46 cases of peritonsillar abscess of age group between 5 to 80 years were included. After going through the results, it is observed that the peritonsillar abscess can be treated successfully by Homoeopathy. The scope of Homoeopathy in the treatment of peritonsillar abscess is excellent and shows high success rate of 44 out of 46 patients responding successfully to the Homoeopathic treatment with no signs of recurrence in near future. The outstanding Homoeopathic remedies in the treatment of peritonsillar abscess were found to be mostly Hepar Sulph & Merc Sol along with Calc Carb, Baryta Carb and Phytolacca. All that is required in the treatment of peritonsillar abscess is quick selection of right remedy and right dose for the instant relief rationally. Hence we can rightly claim that by proper Homoeopathic treatment we can make the world better for the future generation. This research paper will certainly help the health professionals to overcome such problems of surgical cases and consider the benefits of the facts in scope of Homoeopathy in peritonsillar abscess.

AbstractHerpes zoster (HZ), also known as shingles, occurs due to reactivation of varicella zoster. It is manifested by unilateral, painful, vesicular rashes following a dermatome. Homoeopathy is well known for its tremendous results in chronic cases. This article presents the evidence-based significant result of single homoeopathic remedy in an acute case of HZ within a short time period without any post-herpetic neuralgia which usually follows the HZ for months. Three to four doses of Hypericum 30 CH provided significant relief within a day and complete recovery within 10 days. Modified Naranjo score is 9, indicating definite causal attribution. This case proves that by selecting appropriate similimum, promising and positive results are achieved by homoeopathy, be it acute or chronic cases in a safe and gentle way. No such existing homoeopathic literature provides any characteristic information particularly related to HZ in Hypericum. So, future research and clinical trials could be beneficial for better validation of Hypericum as a therapeutic for HZ.

Abstract:
Background & Objectives: Psychological fragility caused to human life has been the largest aftermath of the pandemic posing a raised public health concern globally. This psychological impact is identified as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which was the most commonly diagnosed psychological disorder during this pandemic. These cases, if left untreated and unidentified may take a devastating transformation into psychotic disorders and cause gross damage to the individual and the community by disrupting human relations. Keeping in view the beneficial role of Homoeopathy in dealing with psychological disorders based on its philosophy and previous studies, a clinical case series of 10 PTSD cases successfully treated with Homoeopathy during this pandemic are presented here. Method: 10 cases of PTSD consulted during the first wave of pandemic diagnosed based on the clinical picture analogous to PTSD cluster symptomatology from Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-5 (DSM-5) and objectively through Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale for DSM-5 (CAPS-5) were treated with Homoeopathic intervention. Homeopathic medicine was prescribed based on the totality of each case through repertorization and in consultation with the sourcebooks of Homoeopathic Materia Medica (HMM). The cases were followed monthly for clinical improvement and every three months using the CAPS-5 score. The outcome was assessed after six months clinically and objectively through the CAPS-5 score. At the end of one year, further to assess the casual attribution of clinical outcome to homoeopathic intervention, validated MONARCH (Modified Naranjo Criteria for Homoeopathy) tool was utilized. Results: The 10 diagnosed PTSD cases showed marked improvement assessed after one year of Homoeopathic treatment. Significant improvement was found in the clinical picture affirmed through CAPS-5 score and MONARCH tool. Conclusion: Homoeopathic medicines showed a significantly beneficial role in the management of PTSD during the pandemic in the presented 10 cases. Further validation through well-designed clinical trials is warranted.

Background Symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common condition in elderly men and has a significant impact on their daily lives. Surgical procedures are currently used for the conventional treatment for BPH; but they have been associated with clinically significant adverse effects in patients. Objectives The main purpose of this article is to evaluate the role of homoeopathic medicines for the treatment of BPH. Materials and Methods Clinically diagnosed 30 subjects of BPH were given homoeopathy treatment and followed up for a period of 1 year. Homoeopathic medicines were prescribed to the subjects according to the principles of homoeopathy. Effects of homoeopathic medicines were analysed periodically by American Urological Association score (AUA score) and ultrasonography. Results Marked amelioration of symptoms and reduction in size of prostate gland in BPH subjects were observed after homoeopathic treatment when analysed by AUA score and ultrasonography. There was marked reduction in various symptoms of BPH like nocturia, straining, incomplete sensation after urination, interrupted flow of urination with dribbling of urine and urgency significantly from 21.60 ± 4.64 units to 12.23 ± 3.68, that is, ∼57% reduction in symptoms of obstruction of bladder problem. The reduction was statistically significant (p = 0.001). However, transabdominal pelvic ultrasonic scan did not show statistically significant results. Conclusion Homoeopathic medicines can prove to be an alternative treatment of BPH.

Abstract:
Atopic dermatitis is a common, chronic, intensely pruritic, relapsing inflammatory skin disease that affects both children and adults. Atopic dermatitis is often the originating of a series of allergic disorders, mentioned as the "atopic march".There are numerous risk factors correlated with AD development. However, only two have always been related, and they are (1) family history of atopy and (2) loss of function mutations in the FLG gene. Topical anti-inflammatory therapy with topical corticosteroids or topical calcineurin inhibitors treatment are available in conventional therapy but sometimes it has been reported that patients are also benefited from Homoeopathic treatment. Four patients who presented at the outpatient department at National Institute of Homoeopathy, Saltlake, Kolkata with Atopic dermatitis and a family history of asthma, allergic rhinitis were treated with constitutional homoeopathic medicine. Details of consultations, treatment and assessment are summarized. A constitutional treatment thus eliminates the symptoms locally and internally as well as long-lasting relief from complaints. Common remedies include Mercuris Solubilis, Sulphur. This case series shows positive results of homoeopathy in the treatment of Atopic dermatitis. Abstract:
Homoeopathic remedies for migrane are widely available over the counter, statutorily offered by the national health service in the UK, and apparently popular with patients. Do they work? Sixty-three outpatients with migraine with or without aura b IHS criteria entered a 4-month randomized placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel-groups trial of individualized homoeopathic prophylaxis, the first month being baseline with all patients on placebo. Three patients (4.8%) dropped out, leaving 30 in each treatment group. There were chance differences in attack frequency and severity between the groups at baseline (attacks were more frequent but less severe in the placebo group). Both groups improved on therapy but neither to a great extent on the primary outcome measure of attack frequency (verum: —19%; placebo: -16%). Reduction was mostly in mild attacks on placebo, more in moderate and severe attacks on homoeopathy. Few adverse events were reported. Overall, there was no significant benefit over placebo of homoeopathic treatment. The course of change differed between groups, and suggested that improvement reversed in the last month of treatment on placebo. On this evidence we cannot recommend homoeopathy for migraine prophylaxis, but cannot conclude that it is without effect.

Abstract:
AbstractThe terms ‘esoteric’ and ‘exoteric’ are used in German idealistic philosophy for the view from the inside (of the thinking process) and from the outside (on the thoughts that result). They can also be used to present new perspectives of homoeopathy.Homoeopathic literature generally explains homoeopathy esoterically, i.e. as seen through the eyes of devoted practitioners, in terms of faithful obedience to universal laws, eternal truth, divine revelation, etc. In contrast to this, critical medical colleagues usually look at homoeopathy exoterically as a system based on speculation and dogmatism with no clear evidence of efficacy. The reaction to the critics’ exoteric view has divided homoeopaths into those who adopt the critics’ way of reasoning and try to prove their own claims scientifically, and those who ignore external criticism and just go on with their medical work. Both positions are one-sided and have severe shortcomings. Nevertheless, they have decisive practical impacts.Faithful adherence to the doctrine of homoeopathy is likely to help physicians get a maximum effect out of it that would probably not be possible to achieve with a sceptical attitude towards its principles.Limiting one’s horizon to a strictly esoteric view, however, may also be detrimental to the patient, if not balanced by a realistic exoteric view of one’s own limitations. A self-critical attitude may curtail otherwise possible clinical results, but in the long run a mixed position will be safer for patients, and is the only way of communicating and collaborating with mainstream medicine and legislators. Keeping the balance between an esoteric and an exoteric view of homoeopathy is an art, dependent on virtues and bound to ethics. Homoeopathy is therefore not merely a medical method. Its wise application also involves spiritual, artistic and ethical dimensions on the part of the practitioner.

Abstract:
AbstractDespite its high prevalence in clinical and consultant liaison psychiatry populations, adjustment disorder (AD) research has traditionally been hindered by its lack of clear diagnostic criteria. Here, we are presenting five cases of AD diagnosed with Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.Five patients who consulted at the Out Patient Department of National Homoeopathy Research Institute of Mental Health, Kerala, India, with symptoms of AD were treated with individualised homoeopathic medicine. Assessment of the symptoms was done using Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale—21 Items. Details of consultations, treatment and assessment are summarised. Possible causal attribution of changes was explicitly depicted by Naranjo Criteria. It shows the positive role of homoeopathic treatment in AD.All five patients showed marked improvement. We were able to prevent the considerable self-harm and suicidality associated with AD. However, more extensive research is needed in the topic to prove the effectiveness of individualised homoeopathic medicine in AD.
