Abstract:
Il n’existe pas, à proprement parler, une histoire des Français de l’étranger. La définition même de ce terme reste floue et connaît de nombreuses variantes selon les auteurs qui se sont penchés sur le sujet ; ces derniers sont d’ailleurs rarement des historiens. Autre constat, le concept de présence française recouvre une multitude de réalités. C’est un terme polysémique qui n’a pas encore reçu, chez les historiens du moins, de définition claire et précise. Pour explorer ces pistes, il a semblé que Hong Kong dans l’entre-deux-guerres était un terrain propice.C’est une parenthèse active sur un territoire aux influences multiples ; la colonie britannique est aux portes de la Chine, voisine de l’Indochine, et elle connaît des développements et des remous nombreux entre 1918 et1941.L’ambition de ce travail est d’assembler les différentes formes de la présence française, souvent étudiées individuellement dans d’autres cadres chronologiques ou géographiques, pour offrir un tableau complet de ce que signifie réellement ce terme et réfléchir aux concepts contemporains de Français de l’étranger et de culture tierce. Au regard des spécificités géographiques et politiques de Hong Kong dans l’entre-deux-guerres, en quoi peut-on dire que la colonie britannique joue un rôle particulier pour la France, et qu’à ce titre, elle est un observatoire privilégié de la vie des Français de l’étranger à cette époque ? Cette interrogation cache évidemment de multiples articulations car la présence française suppose l’existence d’une communauté vivante et hétérogène, mais aussi une implantation purement matérielle et parfois abstraite
Strictly speaking, the History of French people abroad does not exist. The meaning of this term in itself is quite vague and there are lots of variations, depending on the scholars who may have flown over this subject; seldom are they historians. Another significant aspect is that the notion of French presence also covers many different realities. It is a polysemous term which, as yet, has never been given a clear and proper definition yet, at least among historians. In order to explore those tracks, using Hong Kong during interwar period as a search field was thought to be relevant.It is an active parenthesis on a territory animated by multiple influences; the British colony is on China’s doorstep, a neighbour of Indochina, and it has known quite a number of developments and upheavals between 1918and 1941.The purpose of this work is to gather different forms of the French presence, often studied separately and individuallyin other geographical and historic contexts, in order to offer a complete picture of what this concept really means. This is an opportunity to debate on the contemporary notions of fFrench people abroad and Third Culture. Because of the geographical and political specificities of Hong Kong during the interwar period, in what way can we consider that the British colony is playing a particular role for France in the area ? And, on this basis, how can it be considered a privileged observatory of the life of French people abroad at that time? Those questions are obviously hiding many others because French presences suppose the existence of a lively and heterogeneous community, but also a material and sometimes abstract implantation

July ist 1997, china will recover the sovereignty over hong kong. Is it a simple decolonisation phenomen? the reality is more complexe. For over a century, the british liberal theories combined with the chinese commercial feeling have created an original society with own identity. Hong kong has achieved a level of prosperity and of liberty unequaled with that of china. At the down of this profond change, several questions need to be raised : - why has there never been a nationalistic or independantist movement? - how did the government of hong kong function as a non-democratic yet allowing all fundamental liberties to its subjects? - will the join declaration between china and great britain, an international agreement drawn up for the futur of hong kong, have a chance to be applied? - why did the political democratisation interviene so late? - how can the chinese harsh political attitude towards hong kong be explained? - what might appen after july ist 1997? the 30th of june 1997, at midnight, the hong kong political system will have been dismantle. The democrates will have been marginalized and the liberties restrained. A prospective analysis of hong kong must take into account all the uncertainties that weight on the internal evolution of china as well as the particularities of hong kong (strong cultural identity and internationalization of the territory). En 1997, au terme de la souveraineté britannique, le PIB par habitant du territoire dépasse celui de la Grande-Bretagne, le pays en charge de sa tutelle, ce qui n'a pas de précédent dans l'histoire coloniale. L'objet de cette étude est d'examiner cette réussite et ses paradoxes, en se concentrant sur les années 1978-1997, une période exceptionnelle qui va de l'ouverture de l'économie chinoise à la fin de la tutelle britannique. Quelles sont les principales caractéristiques de ce développement ? Quel a été l'apport de la Grande-Bretagne, de la Chine, du monde chinois et de la population de Hong Kong, ainsi que le rôle joué par le contexte de la mondialisation ? After World War II, everything had to be rebuilt in Hong Kong : the colony was a vast refugee camp. In 1997, at the end of British rule, Hong Kong's per capita Gross Domestic Product was greater than that of Great Britain, a unique phenomenon in colonial history. This study investigates the key factors contributing to the successes and paradoxes of the development of Hong Kong between 1978 and 1997: an exceptional period beginning at the opening of the Chinese economy and ending on the last day of British Sovereignty. What were the main characteristics of this development ? What were the contributions of Great Britain, China, the Chinese world, the population of Hong Kong and also the part played by economic globalisation in this success story ? What were the weak points of Hong Kong's economic system which can explain the crisis which occurred after the hand-over ? These are the main questions this study tries to answer

La question géopolitique, loin d’être un "mécanisme" abstrait participe à l’évolution de l’espace local, de son organisation aux manifestations qui en émanent. L’étude de cinématographies nationales telles que Hongkong, La Corée du Sud, le Japon et Taiwan est l’occasion de mettre en correspondance par parallélisme les spécificités géopolitiques de chacun de ces "pays" et certains éléments constitutifs de leurs cinémas respectifs, pouvant jouer aussi bien dans une dimension historique, qu’institutionnelle ou esthétique. L’approche géopolitique se présente comme une contre-proposition à l’uniformité culturelle proposée par la notion de "cinéma asiatique" et entend, à partir d’une reformulation de la conception lefebvrienne de la notion d’espace (concret, social, mental), exhumer les qualités spécifiques de chacun des cinémas étudiés. Existe-t-il un art asiatique ? Un cinéma asiatique ?
The geopolitical issue, far from being a "mechanism" abstract part in the evolution of the local space, organization events that flow from them. The study of national film industries such as Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan and Taiwan is an opportunity to match the specific geopolitical alignment with each of these "countries" and certain elements of their respective theaters, which may play both in a historical dimension, and institutional or aesthetic. The geopolitical approach is presented as a proposal to cons-cultural uniformity proposed by the notion of "Asian cinema" and hears from a reformulation of the design Lefebvrian the notion of space (concrete, social, mental), exhume the specific qualities of each of the movies studied. Is there an Asian art? An Asian cinema?

1842年,香港岛被割让给英国。翌年发布的《香港宪章》(the Hong Kong Charter)和《致璞鼎查训令》(Instructions to Sir Henry Pottinger)标志着香港正式成为英属殖民地,英国对香港的殖民统治自此正式开始。毫无疑问,在英国官员为主的殖民政府和华人为主的被管治群体之间存在着巨大的语言鸿沟,这是殖民管治所面对和必须有效解決的问题。港英殖民政府内除有一批颇受重视、监管翻译工作的欧洲译者外,尚有不少华人译员。他们主要负责重要性较低的日常翻译工作,弥补欧洲译者人数不足的问题。然而长久以来,学界几乎完全沒有关注早期港英殖民政府內的华人译员群体,致使他们的工作和贡献一直沒有得到认识和认同。这可以说是香港殖民史以及香港翻译史上一个较严重的空白。
本文爬梳大量原始史料,分析这一群体从接受英语教育,到政府任职及进一步发展的人生轨迹以及此间的活动,揭示他们作为翻译史现象的复杂性:一方面,他们身处殖民社会,既是统治政府的执行人员,但又同时是被殖民者;另一方面,作为译者,他们处于中英两种语言及文化的交接点,面临不同语言和文化的冲突和抉择。正是这种复杂的境地,使得他们身份的不确定性和双重性充分突显出來。本文通过对于华人译员这种复杂性的分析,除让我们更好地理解这一特殊群体的面貌外,也希望能进一步展示译者研究的丰富性和可能性,期望能为长期被忽略的译者研究作贡献。
The Hong Kong Island was ceded to Britain in 1842. One year later, the Hong Kong Charter and the later Instructions to Sir Henry Pottinger were promulgated to establish the Hong Kong Island and its dependencies as a separate Crown Colony, beginning the British colonial rule over this former Chinese territory. Without doubt, there existed a huge language barrier between the British officials and the residents, who were overwhelmingly made up of the Chinese nationals. Communication had been a pressing and difficult problem faced by the Colonial Hong Kong Government.
In the Colonial Hong Kong Government, there were some European interpreters who were in senior positions to take charge of interpretation/translation supervision. They enjoyed superior status. On the other hand, some native Chinese also acted as interpreters/translators. They were subordinate to and assisted the European interpreters/translators in the government, undertaking relatively less important and sensitive interpretation/translation tasks. Little attention has been paid to the study of the native Chinese interpreters/translators in the early Colonial Hong Kong Government, resulting in a lack of understanding of their work and contributions in the translation history of colonial Hong Kong.
This dissertation studies the native Chinese interpreters as a special group in the early Colonial Hong Kong Government. By digging into first-hand historical materials, it analyzes the education background, the career paths, the achievements as well as the predicaments of this very special group of civil servants. It reveals the complexity of these interpreters as a phenomenon in the history of translation, that on the one hand, they were part of the ruling machinery of the colonial government, and on the other, they were native Chinese like the rest of the Hong Kong residents. As interpreters/translators, they were caught between two languages, two cultures, and two peoples. It is the purpose of the present dissertation to study and reveal this complexity, in the hope to provide a deeper understanding of this peculiar group of people at a peculiar stage of Hong Kong translation history. It is also hoped that it would provide some insights in the methodology of interpreters/translators studies.

本文回顧香港政府治理戲劇活動的歷史,分析三個歷史時期的治理策略,從而探討調節戲劇活動與殖民管治兩者的關條。香港政府在三個時期以不同方式介入戲劇領域,從戰後至六十年代的戲劇審查,後至六十年代後期至七十年代的文化服務,直到八十年代至九七年提倡戲劇的私營部門增長,三者並不連貫。三個時期的治理特色共同之處在於,政府僅僅為了排除危害社會穩定的麻煩,特別是制衡現代中國政權對香港(戲劇)的影響,並不志在正面地建立成果;因此,本文提出香港政府的文化治理是一種否定式治理策略。
I examine the history of Hong Kong government governing theatrical activities and then analyze the governing strategy in three historical periods; thus, I investigate the relation between regulations of theatrical activities and colonial governance. Hong Kong government employed different ways of intervention in three periods, including censorship from 1945 to 1960s, providing cultural service from late 1960s to 1970s and advocating growth of private sector of theatre from 1980s to 1997. These three strategies are not consistent in terms of achieving goals. Rather, the common character of governing strategies is to get rid of dangerous factor which may harm stability of Hong Kong society, especially the undesirable impact of modern China politics on Hong Kong (theatre ).

Abstract:
Agricultural development has long been the biggest challenge faced by governments or rulers of many countries and regions, be it in the past or at present. It affects the various political, social and economic development aspects of a country or region. Based on various long-term and short-term social needs, the authorities have attempted to find a suitable balance, searching constantly for feasible methods to manage agriculture, in the hope of harmonising the interests of peasant households, consumers and the ruling class through administrative measures. This has resulted in continuous adjustments in agricultural policies and effectively affected the development of agriculture as well as the well-being of farmers and the general public.
As an entrepot, Hong Kong had very little arable land. The number of people engaged in farming, either directly or indirectly, was dwarfed by the consumer population. How to provide the large population with sufficient food, enabling it to be a driver behind economic development? This question became an important political issue for the Hong Kong colonial government for more than 100 years. Sino-British relations fluctuated considerably after the Second World War and this made agricultural development a thorny problem for the colonial government. In the course of studying 60 years of agricultural development, the most striking impression is that the Hong Kong colonial government was totally involved in agricultural production in the New Territories through the systematic promotion of the cooperative movement involving production, transport and marketing. This had made contribution to Hong Kong's unique political and social environment.
This thesis reconstructs the agricultural history of Hong Kong in the post-war period. It explores the profound influence that the Agricultural Cooperative Movement has on the political ecosystem of the villages in the New Territories, economic efficiency and human relations in rural communities.

過往的教師專業發展都是圍繞着如何加強教師的專業知識及教學技巧,藉以改善學生的學習,甚至會嘗試探討如何可透過學校重組、重建,以改變教育的結構與文化。問題是教師面對充滿諸多限制的「處境」時,所謂專業知識、教學技巧又是否還有用武之地?這十五年的教育改革似乎已走向回頭路,作為專業教師還有其他可行的路讓其內藏的專業能力有效地發揮嗎?本研究借用伽達默爾「詮釋學經驗交流」的理論作為行動介入,嘗試尋找教師個人專業發展的空間與可行性。
研究設計分為三個階段。第一階段,研究員透過邀請五位教師敍說其教學經驗,反思自我置身於歷史洪流處境中的教師角色,並探討自己的價值觀念;第二階段,為了讓各受訪者有較廣闊的思考角度,研究員會揭示自我的教學故事;第三階段,研究員選用「詮釋學經驗交流」的對等交流模式介入受訪教師的視域,促使雙方在過程中更深入地思索教育的意義。
通過這項行動研究,我們共有三項重要發現。第一階段的研究顯示五位受訪教師剛入職時的「理解的前結構」是比較簡單的,因此影響了他們日後面對的教學工作。再加上,他們未有察覺「效果歷史」的存在,結果面對宏觀社會環境以及微觀學校處境突如其來的轉變,未及反應。結果,五位受訪教師既要應付教師行業「多樣性」、「變動性」及「不確定性」的特點,又要應付處境改變帶來的衝擊,而出現了不同程度的失衡狀態。
在第二階段的研究中,發現「效果歷史」會對五位受訪教師的「自我理解」起了一定程度的作用。透過研究員以文字將他們敍說的故事重新有機地組織,讓受訪教師以另一整合角度去閱讀自己的故事。閱讀過後,他們不單看到「效果歷史」的張力如何影響自己對教師角色的理解,還呈現對教師專業的種種想法。研究員的故事介入促進受訪教師思索、回顧自己昔日教學。研究員的故事就像一面鏡子,讓受訪教師看到與研究員教學相同與不同之處,形成一種遊走於熟悉與陌生之間的感覺,帶來一種無形之衝擊感,同時為下一階段「詮釋學經驗交流」作好準備。
研究的第三部份發現「詮釋學經驗交流」可促使教師個人教學專業的成長與理解,正如伽達默爾所言,交流有變換的力量,只要交談成功最終會在雙方身上留下構成改變的東西。確實,研究員與受訪教師在構建專業對話平台讓雙方在平等、開放的「來回玩」交流經驗中以新的視域看視問題,對不同的教育議題獲取了新的理解與知識。
透過本研究看到五位受訪教師在「效果歷史」的拉扯下所呈現的狀況,同時看到「敍說研究」以及「詮釋學經驗交流」的介入如何提昇教師的意識及自省能力,以達致發展教師專業,重新尋找到教育的意義。希冀每一位教師都能努力提昇個人教學專業,打開心窗,傾聽不同的聲音。在「詮釋學經驗交流」中進行專業對話,以擴闊個人有限的視域,讓新的教學思維與內涵可以有機會進入教師心中,為教育界帶來美好的轉變。
Teachers’ professional development tended to be centered upon how to enrich teachers’ professional knowledge and pedagogical skills for improvement of students’ learning or even how to restructure and reconstruct the school for the transformation of educational structure and culture. Yet, in fact, the crux of the matter is whether teachers’ professional knowledge and their pedagogical skill can still be put to use in face of many situational constraints. Given the fact that these 15 years of educational change seemed to be making about-face turn, can teachers still have alternative ways to unleash their interior professional capacities? This study is an action research drawing upon Gadamer’s theory of ‘hermeneutic of experience of language’ in an attempt to explore the spatiality and feasibility of teachers’ professional development as individuals.
This study design consisted of 3 stages. In the first phase, five teachers were invited to narrate their teaching experiences, reflect on the roles they played as teachers in the turbulent situation, and explore their personal values. As for the second phase, the researcher uncovered her personal teaching experience to broaden the interviewees’ perspectives. When it came to the last phase, the researcher adopted the "hermeneutics experience of language" approach in interacting with the interviewees on an equal basis so as to facilitate both parties’ deeper reflection on the value of education.
Through this action research, three important findings were identified. As shown in the first phase of study, it was found that the five interviewees’ relatively simple ‘fore-structure of understanding’ at their entry into the profession did have an impact on their later teaching performance. Besides, their lack of awareness of ‘the principle of history of effect’ did weaken their responsiveness to the sudden changes in the macro social setting and micro school environment. As a result, when confronted with the ‘diversity’, ‘volatility’ and ‘uncertainty’ of the teaching profession while at the same time, having to cope with the challenges brought about by the situational changes, the five interviewees suffered from a varying degree of imbalance.
From the second phase of study, it was found that ‘the principle of history of effect’ had some effect on the five interviewees’ ‘self-understanding’. The researcher made a written account of the interviewees’ narrations and then reorganized them. Reading their own stories from a different perspective not only helped them realize how ‘the principle of history of effect’ had influenced their understanding about a teacher’s role, but also threw light on different views towards teaching professionalism. The researcher’s own story further facilitated interviewees’ reflection and recollection of their teaching experiences. The researcher’s story was like a mirror, enabling the interviewees to notice the similarities and differences in their teaching as compared to the researcher’s. This interplay between familiar and strange experiences as a result made an imperceptible impact, preparing them for the next phase of ‘hermeneutics of experience of language’.
According to the findings in the third phase of study, ‘hermeneutics of experience of language’ could facilitate a teacher’s professional growth and understanding. As stated by Gadamer, exchanges had the power to transform, and as long as the exchanges were successful, both parties would experience changes. Admittedly, when the researcher and the interviewees were interacting and exchanging their experiences on a professional platform with equality and openness as well as viewing issues from new perspectives, they could get new understanding and knowledge about different educational issues.
This research has demonstrated how the five interviewees were shaped by ‘the principle of history of effect’ and how the agents of ‘narrative studies’ and ‘hermeneutics of experience of language’ enhanced teacher’s awareness and introspective capabilities in achieving teaching professionalism and rediscovering the value of education. Hopefully, every teacher will strive to work for better teaching professionalism, be open-minded and be willing to listen. Conducting professional dialogues through ‘hermeneutics of experience of language’ can help extend horizon and make way for new thinking modes of teaching and better character-building to bring about positive changes in education.
