Justin Martyr, in his First Apology, disputes the way Christians were being judged before the Roman magistrates. Because he does not agree with this, he exposes his arguments in favor of Christians. In order to strengthen his argument, Justin brings us past and contemporary events and relies on his eschatological hopes. The use of temporalities in his arguments led us to ask how he understood his present time. Based on the historical time of definition proposed by Reinhart Koselleck, we set out to analyze the First Apology to understand Justin's look towards his own time. We look after, in this way, to try to understand what factors underlie his tension, which would explain its vision of the world. In the search for a better understanding of these factors, we propose three steps: To broaden the knowledge about our source through the study of its form and content to analyze the most present intertextuality in his work (his conception of prophet and prophecy from Judeo-Christian literature) and, finally, the way he dealt with past, present, and future temporalities.

Full textThe work of Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio has already been the subject of numerous investigations, but they provide little lights on the potential reader who is nevertheless an essential literary phenomenon. The role of the reader as receiver of the work has a particular importance on the quality of the act of communication because he receives the book with the sum of his prejudices and aspirations. He participates in the production of meaning and development of themes that run through the work of the writer. What is the virtual reader’s image as projected in the text of Le Clézio? What is his role in creating the work? And how does the author manage to minimize the distance between writing and reading? We try to answer these questions by making a sémiostylistique analysis on short story cycles of the writer : Fever, Mondo and Other Stories, The Round and Other cold Hard Facts, Spring and other seasons and Burn Heart and Other Romances

This research analyses Monteiro Lobato’s times in the composition of the Brazilian nation, between the years 1914-1927. The writer understood socioeconomic cultural inequalities inherent to the increasing inclusion of the country in the capitalist economy, integrating the most remote corners of the country to the frenzy of the offer, the demand and the competition, through temporal concepts, highlighting the different cadences of the transformation of the Brazilian society. According to this view, the past is something anachronistic, backward and obsolete; the future is “tomorrow”, the modern and the progress. There was a tension between the space of experience related to the caboclos from blackland, “dead cities” and the misery in the backlands and the horizon of expectation represented by the sequence of technological developments, the North American advance and Henry Ford’s principles of prosperity according to Reinhart Koselleck’ s categories. So, I investigate the elaborate projects in order to cadence the time of the nation and finally build the imagined community called Brazil as a nation where the “jecas” would be integrated to the progress through new conditions of work. Monteiro Lobato, through the fictional universe of the Yellow Woodpecker Farm, (re)connected past/future or traditional/modern, removing unethical aspects of these concepts and finding their synthesis. Monteiro Lobato’s complete works constitute the sources of this dissertation as his short stories, novel, journalistic texts, stories and texts about art critic.

Full textThis thesis investigates how a group of 21 young people narrate and reflect on their lives within the framework of long interviews. The participants were interviewed at the ages of 15, 17, 22 and 25 years. The interviews are analysed as life-stories, a theoretical and methodological perspective which illuminates the interviewees ways of interpreting and constructing meaning in their lives. The study has two aims: firstly it is a contemporary study with the goal of investi-gating what the conditions for entering adulthood are, and how young people relate to becoming an adult. Secondly it is a study of method which places great importance on how life-stories are constructed situationally and culturally. These two perspectives are linked by the strong connections that exist between the young people’s way of understanding themselves and the life-stories they construct. The work is concentrated to three main questions: how experience and expectation interplay in the participants stories, how their stories relate to dominant cultural narratives, and how meanings of becoming an adult are constructed and change over time in their life-stories. The process of becoming an adult mainly involves the search for identity, autonomy and place in society. The study demonstrates how this can be understood as a process where experiences from the past interplay with expectations for the future. It highlights the complexity and diversity of the transition from youth to adulthood, and the fact that meanings of adulthood are neither self-evident nor definite. Life-stories as told by the participants arise to a large degree in negotiation with narrative life-scripts. These scripts structure the stories and provide a basis for evaluation of their own lives. The study also points out that young people´s life stories are part of a double hermeneutic process where a “Grand Narrative” about the individualised society is interpreted and reproduced.

Full textThe corpus of this essay is mainly to study accurately the following literary compositions: A Maior Flor do Mundo by José Saramago, O Gato e o Escuro by Mia Couto and O Mistério do Coelho Pensante by Clarice Lispector for childish readers. The undertaken analyses has as a theoretical reference Estética da Recepção by Hans Robert Jauss and Teoria do Efeito Estético by Wolfgang Iser, tendencies wich take the reader as an active active element in the act of reading, letting him/her go deeply into the text and fill in the blanks left by the authors who make the reader formulate what was not said through his/her imagination. The language of the mentioned books works as the readers instrument of perception and childhood symbol, so that they will be so amazing, fantastic and wonderful without having the function of controlling and moralizing , which made children not to express themselves with freedom in the past. When concepts as reception, effect horizon of expectations and implicit reader are worked, we try to explain how the reading involves children and its introduction in the cultural context of sense production. The analysed literary compositions contribute to make analytical and thoughtful readers object life experiences. The book illustrations do not appear as only verbal text complement, but also getting expression and esthetic meanings

Abstract: The low reading score indicated by international assessments, such as the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), and by state assessments, such as the School Performance Evaluation System of the State of São Paulo (SARESP), justifies the need for research that analyzes and produces methodological proposals aiming at developing reading repertoire. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate strategies that will add to the body of knowledge of Behavioral Analysis regarding planning and evaluating teaching conditions, for the development of reading comprehension skills of literary texts, as in these students have shown a lower performance in SARESP, 2018. As an interdisciplinary research, it borrows from theorical contributions of Linguistics of Enunciation and Reception Theory in order to elaborate the planning according to literature pedagogy. It is a participatory research conducted during night classes with 35 freshman-year high school students, among which 12 were selected to be followed as a class sample, in a peripheral school within São Paulo school district. The procedure used is divided into four phases, each comprising different stages: Phase 1 aims at characterizing oficial documents of the State Department of Education, such as the State Curriculum and the Evaluation Matrices, highlighting the theoretical and methodological guidelines that support the teaching-learning process. Phase 2 consists in the production of an analysis protocol composed o... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

Full textThe writer Campos de Carvalho published his major novels between 1956 and 1964 having a relatively indifferent reception from critics. Writing in a time when the national developmentalism reigned in the country and under the auspices of committed literature, he was excluded from the canonical works of his time. With the military coup of 1964 began to be significant changes in the Brazilian cultural field, when the engagement began to be challenged. This rupture occurred abruptly in 1968 when, with the decree of Institutional Act No. 5, the standards of the national artistic production began to reflect this new reality. With an extremely violent state and democratic freedoms limited by repression and censorship, it took new artistic expression of spaces such as call alternative press. In this new context, marked by movements such counterculture, marginality and Tropicalismo, Campos de Carvalho and his work began to be reevaluated, finding new interpretative horizons for its literature. Contributing as a columnist for O Pasquim, found new readers.

Full textIn this scientific essay: The art of being a specialist and listening, I reflect and examine my practice as a professional in the area of HR. I examine some of the expectations that I and my surrounding have on me and my professional role. How do I do when I meet conflicting expectations? How should I understand the way I’m acting at work? I retell three situations from meetings with managers taken from my work experience. These stories help me to make my practical knowledge visible. Through these examples, and the questions above I let my profession meet modern management research and theories about interpretation, context and specialist role from the philosophers Paul Feyerabend and Hans-Georg Gadamer. I conclude that my practical knowledge is to read the complexity and expectations in the situation I find myself and dare to remain in uncertainty without having the answers given, I have to stay in the process, and when I do, solutions will be given to me. The importance of being able to listen turns out as an important part of my practical knowledge. Another important insight is that my role as HR employees are dependent on it just me in a certain context practicing my profession and to my person and my role is intimately linked in my profession. You can not separate us.

Full textProvide clarity to the feelings and reasons that emerge from the experiences of the students in Vitória-ES, between 2009-2010, and what move them toward their professional projects is the goal of this work. The notion of design used here (Velho, 1999) differs from the classical liberal understanding of human being, autonomous, free and unique, responsible for their successes and failures, underlie to studies on "career choice". The proposed idea is that the field experiences of the subjects mark their professional projects, but their deliberate conduct, not necessarily rational, expose certain life expectations, whatever is the social position of these individuals. To test these expectations, these subjects were seen in their social relations on the intersections of class, gender, ethnicity, generations, etc. It was recognized also that the reasons and feelings (WILLIAMS, 1969) also forge professional projects of subjects under different social conditions and in spite of them. Considering that these projects carry human manifestations not always visible, often covered, the metaphor of "rhizome" (DELEUZE; GUATTARI, 2004) was useful as methodology. Evidences (GINZBURG, 2007) suggested research paths and some of the meanings attributed by those subject to these projects could be detected. The prospect of long-term historical and multiple times chaired the examination of trajectories of a selected group of subjects studied between the years 2009-2010, which favored the perception of historical continuities, but also the occurrence of certain changes in social trends. Two pre-university courses, one public and one private, in Vitória, ES, at this juncture, showed a bit of a plurality of different expectations of young people - poor, middle and upper classes, men and women, whites, blacks and browns, younger and older in relation to high school - present in their professional projects. Reasons and feelings that move them and that move is not always considered in studies on the subject, were exposed. Contributions of Elias (1990), Williams (1969), Bourdieu (2003, 2009), E. P. Thompson (2002), Löwy (1990), among others, supported evidences that the relation between individual and society, always plural and complex, express only parts of their civilizing senses. To reduce uncertainties, it was used macro and micro data (Revel, 1998). Interviews with these teenagers and advisers, observations from group dynamics and also examination of official publications, periodicals to disseminate material on vestibular, between 2009-2010, were located a tract of analytical scales difficult to exercise. Apart from relations of class, gender, skin color, generation, etc., is possible to conclude that these subjects, for reasons and various feelings, with their professional projects, move are not from their social origin, but all of them, in their new experiences and different ways, also prepare themselves to act on the senses civilizing of his time.

This work is the result of an investigation, developed for three years, targeted to the literature teaching and to train the reader in the school environment. As a general objective, with this work was searched to reflect on how the reader is trained and the choices and preferences are articulated by certain authors and certain works. From the development of this research, it was able to realize a survey of the repertoire of works read from 1998 to 2000 by students in the 5th, 6th and 7th grades, as well as diagnosing which works are attractively regarded by them. Among those considered the most attractive, it was examined in this thesis the work Harry Potter and the philosopher's Stone by J. K. Rowling, elected in the modality: reading proposed by the teacher. The analysis, based on the aesthetic reception, aimed to detect the horizon of the students’ expectation, by means of the work reception. Concomitant to the works selected by the students, it was developed a work based on the constructivist principles towards reading of several texts by different authors in order to make them to broaden their horizon of expectation. For that, it was used the aesthetic reader concept, privileging, as the reading methodology, the reading act as an exercise of artistic and cultural comparisons which the text brings in itself.

Written by the Italian novelist and essayist Italo Calvino, and published by Einaudi in 1979, If on a winter’s night a traveler is one of the most significant metafictional works of Western literature, to the extent that the author reveals the mechanisms of narration, triggering a reflection about the practice of writing and reading, as well as about the relationship between the writer, the text and the reader in the literary work itself. Thus, this dissertation aims to demonstrate how the novel If on a winter’s night a traveler operates on the horizon of expectations of the Reader – the protagonist of the novel, taking as theoretical references the Philosophical hermeneutics, the Aesthetics of reception and effect, as well as the conceptions derived from the studies of region and regionality. It is observed, in this sense, concepts and categories intrinsically associated with the horizon of expectations of the Reader, such as hermeneutic experience, aesthetic experience, empty spaces, region, and regionality.

Full textThe means of producing an image have always been influenced by the inscription of a tangible physical reality. The digital image, which is a distinct method of visual rendering, should therefore change our relationship to visual representations. However, in reality, is the viewer’s experience of digital images in any way different from those issued by the recording techniques? To answer this question, this thesis mainly analyzes, using the semio-pragmatic approach, how the viewer's perception is conditioned through the recording techniques (photography, film and video). Then, this study compares the habits and visual expectations generated by these techniques with digital images. Finally, this study attempts to expand the problem of digital rupture into a broader perspective, and establish the question in the global tradition of artistic representation.

Full textFocusing on the different roles of sound in horror videogames, this master thesis aims to expose the cognitive process of a gamer during his gameplay activity. From the structure of the soundscape to the production of meaning through the sound’s functions, this research measures the implication of audio in the creation of a mise en scène of videoludic fear. As a means to do so, it presents, evaluates and develops a plurality of concepts about gameplay, modes of listening, diegesis, sound generators, systemic and immersive audio functions, and the building of fear with different sound strategies.
