Water-in-glass evacuated tube solar collectors are widely used in two main configurations: (1) a single row of tilted tubes connected to a header tank, and (2) two rows of horizontal tubes on either side of a central manifold. Published studies on water-in-glass collectors have been focused almost entirely on the former, commonly used for domestic water heating applications. This study considers the latter type, which is well suited to larger solar water heating applications. Experimental data from outdoor testing demonstrates a good fit to the ISO 9459-2 expression for collector performance.

Abstract Among a collection of fine ceremonial adzes presently in the Pitt Rivers Museum there is one—with a long, rounded haft carved with twenty-seven horizontal deeply notched rings—which no longer has its green jade blade (Fig. 7.1). By the time Henry Moseley signed it into the Pitt Rivers collections on 13 February 1886 the adze handle has lost its blade, although the sinnet binding that once held it in place remained intact. An aged and heavily corroded horizontal iron rim lock for the left side of a door was examined at the request of Anson (“Tuck”) Hines, Director of the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC). The lock was reportedly found by a contractor on SERC’s property during renovation, and the iron corrosion is typical of exposure to the elements. It was anticipated that the lock would date from the time of the oldest part of the Sellman/Kirkpatrick-Howat house constructed in 1735 or its Greek Revival enlargement in 1841.
