Horse gram (Macrotyloma uniflorum) is one of the inexpensive sources of protein, calcium and iron. Simple processing methods such as soaking and roasting were tested to reduce the anti-nutritional factors. A sample of horse gram was washed, soaked in sufficient water for 12 h with periodical change of water at 4 h interval. Later, the sample was dried in hot air oven at 60ºC for 2 h and powdered. In a separate processing method the horse gram sample was roasted for 10 min on low flame, cooled and powdered. Abstract:
A significant portion of casting defects in the Lost Foam Casting process can be traced back to a lack of consistency in the Expandable Polystyrene (EPS) foam pattern. The present study focuses on determining the cause of EPS foam pattern irregularities through the characterization of the two-phase flow of an EPS bead injector. The process variables studied during this experiment include fill time, fill pressure, EPS bead canister pressure, and fill hose diameter. It was found that the air flow rate under vented EPS bead canister condition using a 1.9 cm (3/4 inch) diameter fill hose increases

Abstract:
The research purpose was to characterize morphometric features of invasive larvae of Oesophagodontus robustus and to study the spread of equine oesophagodontosis in the Altai Mountains. Fecal samples from animals spontaneously infected with helminths were examined using the Berman-Orlov larvoscopic method followed by calculation of abundance rates (prevalence, %) and infection intensity (larvae/g). Infective Oesophagodontus larvae were identified with reference to morphometric features. It was found that the average larvae length and width were 1022.4±14.2 (min, 939.5 µm, max, 1068.4 µm) and 3

Birds are an important component of park ecosystems. Due to their high body temperature, rapid metabolism, and high ecological position in most food webs, birds are also good indicators of the effects of local and regional ecosystem changes. Patterns in the community composition, distribution, and occurrence of breeding birds provide a metric for assessing ecological integrity and sustainability in southeastern U.S. ecosystems. Further, trends in these attributes in relation to activities occurring at Fort Sumter National Monument (e.g., management actions, natural disturbance, invasive-specie

This report contains an update and an expansion of a cost-benefit model for wildlife-vehicle collisions and associated mitigation measures along highways, that was originally calculated in 2007 US$ and published in 2009. The direct cost values (vehicle repair, human injuries, human fatalities) were updated for deer, elk, and moose, and expanded by including additional species: gray wolf (Canis lupus), grizzly bear (Ursus arctos), and free ranging or feral domesticated species including cattle, horse, and burro. The costs associated with collisions were also expanded by including passive use, o

One particularly promising implementation is on small unmanned aerial systems (sUASs) flown by service providers or in-house personnel or even more ambitiously as part of larger network conducting autonomous, continual monito

In 2009, the Heartland Inventory and Monitoring Network initiated bird surveys on Homestead National Historical Park to monitor changes in bird community composition and abundance and improve our understanding of relationships between breeding birds and their habitat and the effects of management actions on those relationships. This information helps park staff plan management objectives and assess the effectiveness of management alternatives.
