However, both cost savings and the quality-based need to decrease hospitalizations of children will be fullfilled only if each patient cared for in a day care surgery unit would otherwise have been an inpatient and the bed vac

Abstract:
Population aging and the growing burden of chronic disease are causing many countries to explore new options as they reorganize their health systems from acute care toward increased chronic care provision. There are several modalities to deliver recuperative intermediate care at a level between the hospital and primary care, but some patients will require a bed-based solution. For these individuals, inpatient non-acute facilities may provide superior outcomes at a lower cost than traditional care on a hospital ward. The international literature regarding this type of service reveals positive f

This paper estimates temperature impacts on workloads at hospital emergency departments in the People’s Republic of China between 2013 and 2022, finding that mean temperature is directly associated with inpatient admissions. The results show that within emergency departments, the areas of internal medicine, surgery, and pediatrics experience greater increases in workload during extreme heat. Men, children, and patients with injuries or respiratory diseases make up a larger proportion of total admissions on extremely hot days. This research highlights the need for the healthcare system to incre

Abstract:
The study proposes an analytical framework that examines the effects of fiscal decentralization on health service delivery using difference-in-differences (DID) method. It draws up the standard measure of the extent/degree of fiscal decentralization affecting the health sector. The findings of the DID analysis suggest that greater health decentralization has negative impact on access to hospital inpatient services and access to sanitation (toilet). It contradicts the hypothesis of the study that greater health decentralization will result in better health services. Nevertheless, it is consiste

It has been reported that diabetes prevalence is higher in rural areas than in urban areas. Other studies have shown that rural persons with diabetes have higher morbidity from diabetes-related complications than urban persons with diabetes. This study used data from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project Nationwide Inpatient Sample (2009-2014) to examine hospital-based diabetes-related mortality and whether there were urban-rural differences across census regions. On average 2.63% of all diabetes-related urban hospital admissions resulted in death, while 2.73% of all diabetes-related rur
