Problem statement: The initiation of a detonation in an explosive gaseous mixture in the high activation energy regime, in three space dimensions, typically leads to the formation of a singularity at one point, the “hot spot”. It would be suitable to have a description of the physical quantities in a full neighborhood of the hot spot. Results of this paper: (1) To achieve this, it is necessary to replace the blow-up time, or time when the hot spot first occurs, by the blow-up surface in four dimensions, which is the set of all hot spots for a class of observers related to one another by a Lore

Wood is widely used for the production of sleepers in Russia. Sleepers made of natural wood have the disadvantage – short service life. It is possible to increase the service life of wooden sleepers using pressed (modified) wood for their manufacture. Wood pressing is one of the most promising areas for improving its physical and mechanical properties. Pressed wood, in its turn, has a drawback – the ability to significantly change size and shape when humidity changes, as well as low biological resistance. The solution to this problem is to impregnate wood with an antiseptic solution with a sta

To do so, an indirect experimental procedure is used to quantify the amount of Nb present in solution before rolling. The method is based on the effect of dissolved Nb on static recrystallization kinetics due to its solute drag effect. After different thermal cycles, simulating cold and hot charging conditions, double hit torsion tests have been performed with a 0.23%C steel microalloyed with 0.03% Nb. Abstract:
The method of heating water by means of a water jacket installed in the firebox of a solid-fuel burner, connected by pipes to a hot-water cylinder (HWC), was once commonplace in New Zealand, but has become less so in recent years. These systems, known as wetbacks, are covered by Building Code Clause G12, but considerable confusion has been caused by conflicting rules specified in the two main compliance documents, G12/AS1 and AS/NZS 3500.4 (hot water). In both compliance documents, wetback systems are defined as ‘uncontrolled heat sources’ with specific rules and limitations that stipulate how

Abstract:
In recent years, there has been growing recognition of the need for co-ordinated action to address the increasing health, environmental and economic costs of burgeoning plastics pollution and the role that trade can play as a solution. Annual global exports of plastics total about US$1 trillion (or 333 million tonnes), almost 5 per cent of world merchandise trade ($19 trillion, 2019–21 average). These trade flows have almost quadrupled over the last two decades, from an annual average of $260 billion (or 94 million tonnes) during 1995–97. To help reduce plastics pollution, 127 countries have a

Heat pumps are an excellent solution to supply heating and cooling for indoor space conditioning and domestic hot water production. Conventional heat pumps are typically electrically driven and operate with a vapour-compression thermodynamic cycle of refrigerant fluid to transfer heat from a cold source to a warmer sink. This mature technology is cost-effective and achieves appreciable coefficients of performance (COP). The heat pump market demand is driven up by the urge to improve the energy efficiency of building heating systems coupled with the increase of global cooling needs for air-cond

Electronic Voting Systems (EVS) has become more popular and has progressed despite many concerns about auditing and transparency. Authors present a technical solution for a prototype of a possible EVS. This prototype, with additional improvements, could be used as an EVS in Lithuania and other countries worldwide. This article is intended to show how EVS requirements relate to software solutions using open-source products.
