Abstract Delhi metro uses 25kV single phase AC traction electric supply to power trains which is usually supplied through a continuous conductor running along the track such as overhead lines. Traction power is supplied from Traction sub stations which can cater a smaller portion of the line. Hence, AC traction system for one line comprises of different sections of suitable length being fed by different sub-stations. The electric power is generated in three phases with each having a phase shift of 120°, there is a possibility of two different traction sections being fed by different phases of

Wooden house building has centuries-old traditions, to which Russia has made a significant contribution. Historically, our country is rich in forests, hence the quite natural choice of wood as the main material for housing construction. Everyone knows the methods of building wooden houses by Russian architects of the early Middle Ages “with one ax and without a single nail.” Well, of course, we must understand here that there was more than one ax, there were auxiliary manual wood-cutting tools. Well, without nails – it does not mean at all that the connecting elements were not used, they just

Configuration and design of cogeneration power plant supplying 374 MW electric power and 1500 t/h process steam for a new Reliance Jamnagar Refinery and Petrochemical Complex have been optimised on the basis of (i) reliability of power and steam supplies, (ii) fuel availability, (iii) capital and operating cost, and (iv) synergy between the refinery and petrochemical complex, and power plant start-up schedules. The basic equipment of the power plant consists of 8 Gas Turbines of average site rated power output 31.7 MW per unit, 4 Steam Turbines of 30 MW power output each, 8 HRSG with supplemen

Abstract The ambitious five-year strategic business plan for Petrobras presented a challenge for its Surface Installation Engineering Department. This paper explores the business case behind the strategy, initiatives and identified issues that enabled Petrobras to design, plan, contract, build and deliver more than fifteen new O&G production systems. The company transformation relied on strategic parallel initiatives. Four areas concentrated the efforts: Corporate Integration, Surface Installations, Subsea Systems and Reservoir Wells. This article focuses on the analysis of the technical a

Subsea umbilicals are key part on the development of deep water fields. Generally, they are used to connect Platforms to all type of subsea equipment. Umbilicals’ component failure may result to great production losses. Traditionally, Petrobras uses thermoplastic hoses for chemical injection and control applications in its subsea systems; it has acquired a great deal of technical knowledge. Nevertheless, in recently presented layouts, the steel tubes have gained importance worldwide and this was due the increased water depth, integrity and higher pressure / higher temperature. Abstract:
The Fast Ice Drilling System (FIDS) is a concept to extend the season for Ice Island drilling and to move it into deeper water as an alternative to bottom supported drilling units, such as the Steel Drilling Caisson (SDC). As currently conceived, the FIDS can support drilling of up to four wells during the course of one winter season. The FID System is designed to overcome one of the limitations of current ice island drilling, i.e. the requirement for shore access via an ice road. Building of ice roads can delay season start and shore leads and over-flooding in the spring can make the ice road

Abstract:
According to future projections based on current demographic growth trends, Auckland’s population will reach two million in 2033. Since the city is already afflicted by a serious housing crisis, at the beginning of 2017 the newly elected Mayor Phil Goff set up a task force. Formed by representatives of various stakeholders, it was given the task of producing a report with strategic and tactical guidelines to mitigate the situation. Unitec researchers were invited to respond to the report, which came out at the end of 2017, in the form of three think pieces towards the Building Better Homes, To
