Remittances from migrants are essential for left-behind families in impoverished areas of developing countries. This paper uses data from the Thailand Household Socio-Economic Survey 2019 (HSES 2019) to quantitatively assess the impact of remittances on household spending behavior and their choice of labor force participation via a propensity score matching technique. An attempt is made to examine whether the outcome varies with the household head’s gender. It is estimated that 2.1 million households, 10% of Thai households, have received remittances from migrants in 2019. Remittance-receiving

The process of urbanization, which is perceived as a sign of progress, results increased number of households and their increased consumption of goods and services. This increases the volume of daily household waste which if not properly managed, can lead to various diseases and epidemics. Segregation of household waste into biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes can make household waste management easier as the biodegradable waste whose proportion is more than 60 % of the daily household waste, can be managed at household or local level. Current forecasts suggest that the vast majority of growth in energy demand will come from the developing world, and that China will play a major part in that growth. This paper presents evidence suggesting that the shape of the income distribution, which is typically omitted from forecasting models, plays a major role in driving household acquisition of energy-using durable goods in rural China. Compared to monogamous husbands and wives, polygynous husbands and wives are less cooperative, one with another, and co-wives are least cooperative, one with another. The husbands’ and wives’ behavior in a corresponding series of inter-household games indicates that these differences cannot be attributed to selection of less cooperative people into polygyny. This study aims to look from a different perspective by analysing the influence of lifestyle on the household cost of living in Malaysia. Lifestyle changes are one effect that arises from changes in household income and living standards. Households’ arrangement of upgrading basic needs by consuming more expensive and better-quality goods is defined as lifestyle and it is determined using household income elasticities.
