Since their formation, these faults have likely been transpressionally reactivated in the contemporary E-W-oriented compressive stress state. A better method compared to expensive and time-consuming heating is desirable to pasteurize, accelerate the liquefaction and retard the crystallization process in honey. Hygienic behaviour is experimentally measured using the freeze-killed brood (FKB) bioassay and can be increased by selective breeding, generating lines of hygienic colonies. Abstract:
Although manuka honey has been shown to inhibit Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an opportunistic pathogen implicated in cutaneous wound infections, the mechanisms of action are not yet defined. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to investigate the inhibitory effects of manuka honey on P. aeruginosa. Initially, a bactericidal mode of action was confirmed using suspension cultures of P. aeruginosa. Laser scanning confocal microscopy, atomic force microscopy and hydrophobicity assays identified physiological changes in manuka honey treated cells, such as reduced surface hydrophobicity, membrane bl

Abstract:
The aims of the study presented here are to develop methods of accurately predicting bend loss in arbitrary index fibres, to use these techniques to explore the potential offered by holey fibres in the large-mode-area, single-mode regime, and to place their performance in context against conventional step-index fibres. In the study presented here, numerical and experimental techniques have been developed that are capable of accurately evaluating the bending losses, the fundamental mode area and the modedness of holey fibres. Note that these techniques are also applicable to conventional solid

L’hypothèse no.1

The Black South African literary oeuvre has as its dominant background township life. There has been a considerable neglect of village or rural setting. Even the proliferation of writing that has been regarded as depicting genuine African experience has fallen short of remedying this malady. There is a paucity of writings that endeavour to depict rural communities, and even where South African writers attempted to depict rural community, theirs has been an indolent attempt, as evinced by a lack of insight in such writings. One example is Matshoba's Call Me Not A Man. which is merely a glimpse

Abstract:
Honey possesses therapeutic properties which are the result of a range of factors including high sugar content, low pH, hydrogen peroxide and bee-derived peptides. Honey also contains antimicrobial phytochemicals which represent a rich source of leads for the development of drugs for the treatment of microbial infections. Honey samples donated by UK beekeepers (217) and Manuka samples (3) were screened for the presence of novel antibacterial compounds by determining activity against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) using optimised agar well diffusion and broth microdilution a
