Abstract Testing for human papillomavirus (HPV) relies exclusively on techniques of molecular biology using nucleic acid probes. Tests for HPV using nucleic acid probes have been commercially available since the late 1980s, but early tests were cumbersome, involving the use of nucleic acid probes labeled with radioactive phosphorus (32P). These early HPV tests did not achieve widespread use because they did not detect all oncogenic HPV genotypes. The current commercial HPV detection kit, Digene's Hybrid Capture 2 kit, detects virtually all high-risk oncogenic HPV types, as well as most low-ris

Abstract:
Knowledge about people’s HIV status is important for developing effective HIV prevention, treatment and care strategies. HIV testing is typically performed using Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) at dedicated VCT centres or healthcare facilities. However, many people lack access to VCT sites or prefer not to use them. One strategy to boost the uptake of HIV testing is to use trained counsellors or lay health workers to provide VCT in patients’ homes.

Abstract:
Low uptake of HIV testing is one of the main reasons why only one third of people who need antiretroviral medications are currently receiving treatment worldwide. Mass media are sometimes used to promote voluntary HIV counseling and testing and to sustain test seeking behavior. Mass media include television, radio, internet, newspapers, books, posters, and billboards.

Abstract:
Early detection and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, HIV, and hepatitis B and C are vital to minimise the harm they cause. This Evidence Check aimed to identify effective initiatives that engage and support GPs and the GP clinic workforce in NSW to increase testing for these conditions. It also aimed to identify effective modifications to practice management software to increase GP engagement in screening and care for these conditions. Sixty-two articles were found in total. The most effective initiatives used multiple interventions, particularly provider education and quality imp

Background An estimated 292 million people are living with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection globally, including 223,000 people in Australia. HBV diagnosis and linkage of people living with HBV to clinical care is suboptimal in Australia, with 27% of people living with HBV undiagnosed and 77% not receiving regular HBV clinical care. This systematic review aimed to characterize population-level interventions implemented to enhance all components of HBV care cascade and analyse the effectiveness of interventions. Review questions Question 1: What population-level interventions, programs
