Amniotic epithelial cells (AECs) represent a useful and noncontroversial source for liver-based regenerative medicine, as they can differentiate into hepatocytes upon transplantation into the liver. However, the possibility that AECs can differentiate into other liver cell types, such as hepatic sinusoidal endothelial cells (HSECs), has never been assessed. In order to test this hypothesis, rat- and human-derived AECs (rAECs and hAECs, respectively) were subjected to endothelial cell tube formation assay in vitro. Moreover, to evaluate differentiation in vivo, the retrorsine (RS) model of live

Abstract Aged or damaged RBCs are effectively removed from the blood circulation by Kupffer cells in the liver, but little is known regarding the mechanism of the clearance process. Here we show that stabilin-1 and stabilin-2 in hepatic sinusoidal endothelial cells (HSECs) are critical in effectively clearing damaged RBCs in mouse liver. Damaged RBCs and phosphatidylserine (PS)–coated beads were effectively sequestered in the hepatic sinusoid regardless of the presence of Kupffer cells, suggesting a role for HSECs in PS-dependent sequestration of PS-exposed RBCs in the liver. Power outage is the problem that hinders social and economic development especially for developing countries like Tanzania. Frequent power outages damage electric equipment, and negatively affect the industrial production process. Power outages cannot be completely eradicated due to uncontrolled cause like natural calamities but technical challenges can be managed and hence reducing power outages. The existing manual methods used to locate power outage like customer calls is inefficient and time consuming. On the other hand, modern method like the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) still f

The present study was focused on establishing guidelines for successful friction stir welding of Al alloys and Cu lap joints. Detailed investigations in respect to tool geometry, tool material, work-piece material, welding parameters, stacking sequence, and heat sink were carried out. The soundness of welded joints was tested through microscopic analysis and the lap shear test. The results revealed that the tungsten carbide (WC) tool with square-pin produced sound joints in terms of minimized defects and high strength. Further, the use of heat sink proved as an important pre-requisite when the

Engineering Cementitious Composites (ECC) has gained significant attention in civil engineering due to its excellent tensile strength, crack width control capability, and remarkable ductility. This study examines the influence of the ECC strength and reinforcement on the flexural behavior of ECC slabs through four-point flexural tests. The results demonstrate that ECC is well suited for flexural applications. During flexural tests, the fibers within the ECC provide a bridging effect, allowing the ECC in the tensile zone to sustain a load while developing a dense network of fine microcracks at

Abstract We present the first detection in space of O-protonated carbonyl sulfide (HOCS+), in the midst of an ultradeep molecular line survey toward the G+0.693-0.027 molecular cloud. From the observation of all K a = 0 transitions ranging from J lo = 2 to J lo = 13 of HOCS+ covered by our survey, we derive a column density of N = (9 ± 2) × 1012 cm−2, translating into a fractional abundance relative to H2 of ∼7 × 10−11. Conversely, the S-protonated HSCO+ isomer remains undetected, and we derive an upper limit to its abundance with respect to H2 of ≤3 × 10−11, a factor of ≥2.3 less abundant tha

Herein, we report the finding that a naturally sunflower pollen‐derived microspheres (HSECs) with hierarchical structures can selectively absorb polyC and polyA with high efficiency and affinity. HSECs exhibit the capability to selectively absorb polyC and polyA ssDNA under neutral and acidic conditions. It has been observed that the presence of metal cations, specifically Ca2+, enhances the absorption efficiency of HSECs. Mechanically, this absorption phenomenon can be attributed to both electrostatic interactions and cation‐π interactions. Such an appealing property enables the functionaliza
