New water - Soluble platinum (II) complexes containing [8-hy-droxy-7-(4-sulfo-naphthylazo)-S-quinoline sulfonic acid. Disodium salt) (HSNQ) by using phase transfer catalysis have been prepared. Complexes of the form [(HSNQ)PtL2], where L2 = 2,2'- bipyridine, I. 10 phenanthroline, (PMe2Ph)2, have been synthesized by the reaction of L2PICI2 with the corresponding (8-hydroxy-7-(4-sulfo-naph-thylazo)-5-quinoline sulfonic acid. disodium salt) in a two phases system of water and chloroform in the presence of benzyl triphenyl phosphonium chloride. The complexes are characterized by elemental analysis

Hairy nanoparticles, which graft organic chains on nanoparticles, have led to a wide variety of advanced materials and have been applied in many fields over the past two decades. In this paper, effects of nanoparticle size and organic chain on the tribological properties of amino functionalized hairy silica nanoparticles (HSNs) were investigated. Silica nanoparticles with different sizes and amino group organic chains were synthesized and dispersed into polyalphaolefin (PAO) via a modified process. The synthesized HSNs were characterized by variety of methods. The tribology properties of those

Abstract We have established nurse cell-like clones from long-term cultures of the human skin. These human skin nurse cell (HSNC)-like clones were type I collagen+, type IV collagen-, vimentin+, cytokeratin-, CD44+, CD54+, and weakly positive for VCAM-1, and easily identified by the pseudoemperipolesis that allowed T lymphocytes to migrate beneath the HSNCs. HSNCs and various T cell lines formed a typical complex in the hanging drop culture system. The majority of human and murine T cells, and some of the tumor cell lines other than T cells, including B lymphoma and myeloblastoma cells, migrat

The polarization of post-mitotic neurons is poorly understood. Preexisting spatially asymmetric cues, distributed within the neuron or as extracellular gradients, could be required for neurons to polarize. Alternatively, neurons might have the intrinsic ability to polarize without any preestablished asymmetric cues. In Caenorhabditis elegans, the UNC-40 (DCC) receptor mediates responses to the extracellular UNC-6 (netrin) guidance cue. For the HSN neuron, an UNC-6 ventral-dorsal gradient asymmetrically localizes UNC-40 to the ventral HSN surface. There an axon forms, which is ventrally directe

Abstract Background In Henoch–Schönlein nephritis (HSN), a risk factor for unfavorable outcome is prolonged proteinuria, but the value of renal biopsies in prognosis assessment is debatable. Methods We evaluated serial renal biopsies from 26 HSN patients. Follow-up biopsy occurred at median 2.1 years after diagnostic biopsy. Patients formed two groups at the follow-up biopsy: patients without proteinuria (group I; n = 11) and with proteinuria (group II; n = 15). Biopsies underwent evaluation according to three classifications: International Study of Kidney Disease in Children (ISKDC), Oxford (

Abstract:
Abstract Treatment of the ligand l,3,5-tris[(diphenylphosphanyl)methyl]trimethylbenzene (P3) with (tetrahydrothiophene)gold(I) chloride results in the symmetrical trigold complex [(P3)(AuCl)3]. In the presence of sodium methoxide, [(P3)(AuCl)3] reacts with thiocresol (HSC6H4Me-4) and 2-mercaptoquinoline (2-HSQn) to provide the complexes [(P3)(AuSC6H4Me-4)3] and [(P3)(AuSQn)3], respectively. Reaction of [(P3)(AuCl)3] with KSCN also yields the expected product [(P3)(AuSCN)3], however, treatment with 2-10 molar equivalents of NaSMe results only in the unsymmetrical cationic complex [(P3)Au3(SMe)

Abstract:
While QDs are typically made of semiconductors, metals at low dimensions also turn to discrete electronic structure. The characteristic transition size from bulk to nanodot is lower, because Fermi level position is at the band middle, while discretization of levels starts from the band edge. Therefore, only for sizes of a metal entity ~ 1 nm a QD-like behavior manifests. Here we show that metal nanoclusters Au16Ag7 of an electrum alloy (gold-silver) with adamantanethiolate ligands possess PL quantum yield of ~ 70% in a thiol-ene polymer matrix [1]. PL is in NIR range with a large Stokes shift.
