Abstract:
Abstract. This paper deals with the possibilities of creating a 3-D model and a visualization technique for a presentation of historical buildings and sites in Peru. The project Nasca/CTU is documenting historical objects by using several techniques. This paper describes the documentation and the visualization of two historical churches (San Jose and San Xavier Churches) and the pre-Hispanic archaeological site La Ciudad Perdida de Huayuri (Abandoned town near Huayuri) in Nasca region by using photogrammetry and remote sensing. Both churches were damaged by an earthquake. We use different process for the documentation of these objects. Firstly, PhotoModeler software was used for the photogrammetric data processing of the acquired images. The subsequent making models of both churches were different too. Google SketchUp software was used for the San Jose Church and the 3-D model of San Xavier Church was created in MicroStation software. While in the modelling of the "Abandoned town" near Huayuri, which was destroyed by a climatic event (El Niño), the terrestrial photogrammetry, satellite data and GNSS measurement were applied. The general output of the project is a thematic map of this archaeological site; C14 method was used for dating.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Liver injury, one of the causes of liver failure, is mainly due to T-cell-mediated immunity. Traditional Chinese medicine Jiedu Huayu granules are often used to suppress liver damage and improve liver function. The specific regulatory mechanism of Jiedu Huayu granules has not been fully studied, and its function in the immune system remains unclear. Therefore, in this study, the mechanism of Jiedu Huayu granules in the prevention of hepatic injury was studied in a rat model of hepatic injury induced by D-galactoside and lipopolysaccharide. The cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) in the peripheral blood were examined. Perforin, granule B, and PD1 expression in CTL increased after the induction of hepatic injury and could be reduced by Jiedu Huayu granules. Hepatic apoptotic factors OX62, FAS, and TNFR1 associated with CTL function were also reduced by Jiedu Huayu granules. These results suggested that Jiedu Huayu granules could inhibit the inflammatory response to relieve liver damage by mediating the T-cell immunity. Therefore, the discovery of the mechanism of action of Jiedu Huayu granules in the immune system could allow their use more effectively in clinical practice.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The topic of Prehispanic llama caravan trade has been widely examined in the archaeology of Northern Chile and Norwestern Argentina. Comparatively speaking, in Peru the topic has been previously explored only minimally. Recently, research based on bone isotope analyses from sites in the North Coast of Peru is adding to our knowledge of Prehispanic camelid herd management systems. The present article aims at advancing yet a different case of camelidherd exploitation, this time from the South Coast of Peru. This interpretation stems from the first evidence of ceramic bells from Huayuri, a Late Prehispanic Nasca settlement (1100-1532 AD) with a clear Late Horizon occupation (1470 – 1532 AD), and is complemented with information of other examples from the region not formally reported before. After presenting the context of the findings, I propose these ceramic bells were llama bells. As suggested by ethnographiesof llama (Lama glama) herders, the presence of these bells in the domestic area of the site strongly suggests a direct involvement of some of Huayuri’s domestic units in the organization of the caravans. At a more general level, descriptions from colonial documentation and the regional distributions of additional bells, support the idea a northsouth axis of circulation crossing the deserts of Ica and Nasca, from Tacaraca in Ica to Arequipa to the south of Nasca.

In the past, researchers who study on the Mandarian curriculum for immigrants mostly emphasize the investigation of the relevance of adult literacy education to the agency of immigrant empowerment. In the meantime, teachers who teach immigrants Mandarian are mainly those who currently teach in primary or junior high schools or volunteers who work at social welfare organizations. Recently, more and more educators and researchers adopt the concept of second language acquisition and teaching as the foundation of curriculum practice and development. Therefore, more efforts have been dedicated to the teaching and the research of this issue, and the composition of CSL teachers for immigrants has been changed in correspondence. This study aims to explore the relevance of CSL teachers’ professional competency, curriculum consciousness to curriculum operation and praxis. In light of the purposes of this study, this thesis tries to answer the following questions: 1) What is the relevance of CSL teachers’ professional competency for teaching immigrants Chinese to the operation of the Mandarian curriculum for them? 2) What is the relevance of CSL teachers’ curriculum ideology to curriculum praxis? To investigate how CSL teachers’ professional competency influence curriculum praxis, three CSL teachers for immigrants recruited from the third phase of Lai-Qu Huayu program have been interviewed and designated as the observing objects. The data used in this study are collected from classroom observation, field notes, recording and interviews, including the topics that are related to second language acquisition and teaching, professional competency for the Mandarian curriculum and curriculum development and praxis. The research methods adopted in this study such as encoding, assembling, grouping and defining are employed to analyze the data and to confirm the result. Moreover, the analysis of triangulation is used to ensure the data validity. Finally, the theory of bilingual education is employed to verify the influence that CSL teachers’ professional competency has made on the praxis of the Mandarian curriculum. This study has brought to light three significant conclusions. First, CSL teachers’ professional competency - subject matter knowledge, and pedagogical knowledge should be further clarified. Second, due to the promotion of teachers’ professional competency, CSL teachers for immigrants view immigrants’ multi-language ability as recource, then constrct immigrants’ bilingual and bicultural ability. Third, the curriculum ideology of CSL teachers for immigrants is established on the concept of second language acquisition and teaching, bilingual and bicultural education and empowerment. Finally, this study has provided some insights into the current Mandarin curriculum for immigrants. The educational units should focus on second language acquisition and teaching when they design and organize the Mandarin curriculum and realated measures so that they can clearly understand the teaching background of CSL teachers. In addition, academic exchange platforms for professional CSL teachers should be set up across counties and cities, which can simultaneously promote the Mandarin curriculum to meet learners’ demands.

Under the background of the global economic integration, the competition in all walks of life is not only for the production capacity any more, while the spread of information becomes more and more important in the information age. The rivals in the same industry stand in so great numbers that the business institutions have to drastically show their distinctive sides on the basis of their own characteristics. The medical institutions have become a indispensable part in the human life because of their special nature and their fuzzy localization between the commerce and the reverse. Moreover, among the industry groups of the medical institutions, traditional Chinese medicine medical institutions are outstanding as the more peculiar ones, which are object of this study. In terms of the industries which have strong national characters and a rich historic culture, the image design for the general enterprises is somehow applicable while it could be still improved. Nowadays, traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) medical institutions in most parts of Taiwan and the mainland are still in the operation pattern of pursuing to restore the nature and succeeding the tradition blindly, without paying attention to the measures they should take in the modern business model under the influences of the trends. Sticking to convention may be not the best methods for the development and sustainabilities of the traditional culture. This study will be carried out on the design and programme of TCM’s visual identification systems through the discussion on the literatures of the Corporate Identity System and the learning of TCM history and TCM knowledge. This study collects cases of the visual identification design of TCM in different countries and regions, and, after the classification and analysis of them, some design modes of TCM’s visual identification systems are acquired from the conclusion. This paper selects Xiamen Huaxia Clinic as the experimental subject, applies the design mode acquired to the design plan for it’s modification and get some conclusions and suggestions from the feedbacks, which will find some opportunities for the operation and development of the TCM medical institutions.

This study emphasizes the importance of social context and second language acquisition. Through applying 8 components of speech—the context theory of Hymes (1974), the researcher intends to uses context of situation to help immigrant Chinese learners build up contextualized cognition links, and thus produce dialogue outputs. In light of this, the purpose of this study is to investigate the practice process of integrating contextualization strategy into oral Chinese program for immigrant learners. First, the researcher design and carry out the whole process, and then bring up ways or solutions for challenges which the researcher confronts during the process, at last, investigate immigrant students’ views and reflections of the program. This is an action research, and it is conducted in an immigrant Chinese program which is held by Association of Taiwan Lai-Qu Huayu and Taichung Chung Shin Elementary School’s Learning Center for New Immigrants. The participants of this study are 10 immigrant students and 2 volunteer teachers. Conducted from mid-April to June of 2013, through 10 times, and 30 hours teaching, the researcher collected research data from teaching journals, students’ works, learning handouts, interviews, and photos, and then use data to do cross-comparison and analysis. There are three findings of this study: 1) Integrating contextualization strategy into immigrant oral Chinese program could suit immigrant students’ true needs better; 2) On the teaching aspect, when teacher integrates contextualization strategy into oral teaching, he/she could upgrade single and complex sentence practice to discourse level; 3) When teaching oral Chinese to immigrants, composing dialogue is a good way to practice oral expression, it could not only satisfy immigrant students’ needs of character writing, but also develop their oral organization ability at discourse level. The conclusions of this study are as follow: 1) In the field of Immigrant Chinese, oral context and discourse teaching could help immigrants develop their speaking ability and build up their confidence; 2) Oral language is the main communication way for immigrants to interact with Taiwan’s society, with better oral expression and strategy, immigrants could establish better and diverse resources for their interpersonal relationship.

This thesis presents an empirical study which analyzes the correspondence between test results of language proficiency and the communication skills of language learners in daily life. We design a set of oral tasks based on the Common European Framework (CEF) and the communication intension of testee. These tasks can be divided two types, namely monolog and interaction, which are used to comprehensively grade the oral ability of 30 Chinese learners who has attended the Test of Proficiency- Huayu (TOP). We first analyze the distribution of the graded oral ability with respect to CEF for three types of learners, namely those who fail the basic level of TOP (Type-I), those who pass the basic level of TOP but fail the intermediate level (Type-II) and those who pass the intermediate level of TOP (Type-III). Then we examine the correspondence between the testee’s oral ability and their TOP grades in listening, grammar as well as reading. The analysis results show that 1) the testee outperforms in interactive oral tasks than in monolog ones, 2) the oral grade of the testee with respect to CEF is higher than the CEF one transformed from their TOP grades, 3) the oral ability of the testee who take the basic test is relevant to their grade in listening and grammar, 4) the oral ability of the testee who take the intermediate test is relevant to their overall grade in TOP and 5) there exits intermediate correspondence between the testee’s grades in TOP and their oral grades in CEF. These results clarify the relationship between the oral ability and the language proficiency tests, showing that under interactive conditions, testee has higher oral grades than those quantified by their TOP test results. These results indicate that the development of Chinese oral tests should take the communication intension into account. Also the spoken Chinese teaching class should especially emphasize grammar and communication skills of students. This study analyzes the relationship between CEF and the learners’ oral performance, which can be good references in developing oral tests for the Chinese proficiency test community. Furthermore this study is the first one that identifies a correspondence of TOP by designing oral tasks based on CEF. In this manner, we expect that CEF would receive more and more attention in the research for applications of Chinese.
