Abstract:
The project is for the central building of a community center used by the communities of Blacksburg and Christiansburg. The building is a space configured as a hub that uses axes to determine entering, exiting and vertical movement. The hub configuration of the building is in concentric rings around the atrium in both space and materials. As materials were brought into the building, they enhanced the strong axial configuration and emphasized the layers surrounding the central hub space of the atrium. There are two pairs of axes in the building. The entrance axes are perpendicular to the f

In this study, we propose a two-phase solution approach for approximating the efficient frontier of a bicriteria hub location problem. We develop an evolutionary algorithm to locate the hubs on the network as the first phase. In the second phase, we develop a bounding procedure based on dominance relations and using the determined bounds, we solve the allocation subproblem for each located hub set. The two-phase approach is tested on the Australian Post data set and it is observed that our approach approximates the entire efficient frontier well. In addition, we suggest an interactive procedur

Abstract:
Abstract:
The dissertation investigates the design of a Youth Enterprise Hub on the east periphery of Mamelodi, east of the Pretoria s Central Business district. It aims to explore the potential for the restoration of social inequality within an emerging township economy in a context that has been historically deprived of any economic infrastructure. It suggests the integration of a train station, an informal community as well landfill through the proposal of an urban vision which investigates the possibility for the bridging of socio-economic exclusion through a new industrial ethos of innovation,

Abstract:
Transportation systems such as mail, freight, passenger and even telecommunication systems most often employ a hub and spoke network structure since correctly designed they give a strong balance between high service quality and low costs resulting in an economically competitive operation. In addition, consumers are increasingly demanding fast and reliable transportation services, with services such as next day deliveries and fast business and pleasure trips becoming highly sought after. This makes finding an efficient design of a hub and spoke network of the utmost importance for any competing
