Abstract:
In order to provide more convenient options for users and developers, the design of Human Machine Interface (HMI) based on ARM and embedded Linux is put forward. It makes full use of multiple peripherals of ARM and flexibility of Linux OS. Firstly, hardware design of the HMI system is presented. Then methods of embedded Linux transplanting and the device drivers programming are discussed. Finally, running results and applications of the designed HMI are considered. The design combines the features of traditional HMI and Micro Control Unit (MCU) HMI, including low cost, rich interfaces and easy programming.

Abstract:
Usability is a key indicator in the evaluation of Human-Machine Interface (HMI). ECDIS has a typical HMI for e-Navigation system. In order to improve the usability of ECDIS HMI, it is necessary to carry out usability evaluation. This paper investigated the time spent in executing typical navigation operations using two common designs, which are based on single document and dialog box. The accuracy of the theoretical prediction was verified against actual test results, and the efficiency of the two design schemes was compared. The research results can provide scientific guidance to improve the usability of ECDIS and design of HMI.

Abstract:
This study proposes a Building Information Modeling (BIM)-based Human Machine Interface (HMI) framework for intuitive space-based energy management. The BIM-based HMI supports building managers with a method of linking data between BIM and Building Energy Management System (BEMS), which are heterogeneous systems, and provides space-based real-time energy monitoring. This study also proposes a BIM and BEMS data linking framework for systematic BIM-based HMI development. Towards this end, the BIM-based HMI framework was defined after deriving the considerations and requirements necessary for linking the energy control point and BIM through a questionnaire designed by practitioners. Through case analysis, the authors implemented BIM-based HMI and analyzed its effects. The results of the analysis confirmed the positive effects (3.9/5.0) on the connectivity of BIM-based HMI, the benefits (4.3/5.0) for real-time data monitoring, the system function expandability, and the BIM-based spatial intuitiveness.

Abstract:
Connected vehicle (CV) technology aims to improve drivers’ situational awareness through audible and visual warnings, commonly displayed on a human–machine interface (HMI), thus reducing the likelihood of crashes caused by human error. Nevertheless, the presence of an in-vehicle CV HMI may pose an increasing threat to driver distraction, particularly for truck drivers and under high workload driving conditions. With this concern, this research investigated the effects of a HMI developed by the Wyoming Department of Transportation CV Pilot on truck drivers’ cognitive distraction and driving behavior through a driving simulator experiment. Revealed preference survey and vehicle dynamics data were employed to assess the cognitive distractions of the Pilot’s HMI. Simulation results indicated that when CV warnings were displayed on the HMI, they did not introduce significant effects on participants’ longitudinal and lateral control of the vehicle. Nevertheless, from the revealed preference survey, it was found that approximately 27% of the participants indicated that the CV HMI tended to introduce additional visual workload for them, particularly when approaching an active freeway work zone under reduced visibility condition. In this regard, this research pointed out that the design of CV warnings and HMI displays needs to incorporate drivers’ ability to recognize and react safely to the received CV warnings to minimize the cognitive distractions introduced by the CV HMI.

Abstract:
Technological developments have brought changes in the industry, the process that was originallydone by humans has turned to the automation system. In this paper the application of the automationsystem is carried out on the processing of palm oil. The system is made in the form of a simulation ofan automation system using the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human MachineInterface (HMI). Automation of palm oil processing using PLC with the help of Unity Pro XLsoftware, monitoring processes using HMI with the help of Vijeo Designer Basic software, and analoginput simulated using a potentiometer. PLC receives and processes data from both analog inputs andfrom HMI. The process of cooking and extracting palm oil carried out by the PLC is displayed on theHMI. From the test results, it is known that the PLC can communicate with HMI and HMI can displaythe processes that occur in palm oil processing.

Abstract:
HMI (Human-machine Interface) is the media of communication between human and the computer system; designers should not only consider the completeness of its functions in the design of software products, but also human factors. It is necessary for the software products to meet the functional requirements of users, besides; a friendly interface is also needed to improve customers’ satisfaction while improving users’ productivity. This paper discusses the principles and specific method of designing a user-centered human-machine interface and then applies the method in the design of the mounter’s interface so as to test the method put forward in the paper.

Abstract:
Industries have implemented automation technology to increase their productivity. One machine that applies automation technology is the handling station. This machine is useful for moving parts or components in the industry. For the performance of this machine to be monitored directly, we need a system that can control and monitor the work process of this tool. This article is an explanation of the results of the study aimed at designing the HMI handling station automation system using a PLC as its controller, HMI as a media for operation and monitoring of machines, magnetic sensors, inductive sensors and pressure sensors to detect machine conditions. Research conducted using quantitative methods. After testing, the system can be monitored and controlled through HMI, besides that data recording carried out with a data logger can also record the system work process directly when the system is run.
