Full text
Abstract:
The influence of environmental parameters (air humidity, air and ice temperature) on the friction pair stainless steel-ice sliding ability is studied in the dissertation. Based on empirical measurements, a sliding time prediction model, depending on environmental conditions and measurement and prediction methodology, was developed. The texture and mechanical properties of the ice surface and the surface texture of steel samples were studied. The macrogeometry of the experimental samples was measured, the factors influencing the measurement accuracy in on-field experiments were analysed, and th

Abstract:
Among the planets in the Solar System, Earth is unique in possessing large quantities of water, and water’s properties are highly significant in determining weather. This is because water readily exists in three different phases (ice, liquid water, and water vapour) at temperatures frequently encountered on Earth. ‘Water in the atmosphere’ explains humidity and saturation: the number of molecules of water vapour in the air is determined solely by temperature. Unstable conditions lead to the formation of cumuliform clouds and precipitation is created by either glaciation or coalescence. There a

A pocket reference that allows the non-specialist to identify major insect and arachnid pests found in stored cereal grains, grain products and grain legumes. It describes most storage pests found worldwide and provides concise information on the biology, distribution, damage and economic importance of each species.
Each entry contains at least one colour photograph. The notes for each species tell the nature of the pest or beneficial and the commodity affected; temperature and humidity conditions at which the species can survive; optimum conditions at which eggs take the shortest time

Abstract:
This book takes a fresh look at garden-worthy plants for Australian conditions. It will help gardeners to reappraise their climate, select appropriate plants and modify gardening practices to create beautiful gardens featuring native and exotic plants with proven drought tolerance, reliability and minimal weed potential.
The New Ornamental Garden shows how heat, cold, water availability, rainfall patterns, length of growing season, evaporation rate and humidity influence plant growth in Australia, from the wet sub-tropics to the temperate climate of southern Australia. It also discusses

Abstract:
Grasslands are herbaceous dominated areas with very low abundance of trees and shrubs. They are found in areas with intermediate precipitation amounts (250–1000 mm) characterized by occasional droughts and are usually the most extensive in the interior of continents. Grasslands began to form 11–24 million years ago (MYA) when grasses invaded woodlands. Grasses initially all had C3 photosynthesis and were found in shaded conditions. However, grasses with C4 photosynthesis require full sun, and they increased in abundance during this time to achieve between 20–40 percent of the local vegetation.

Abstract:
An orbitally induced increase in summer insolation during the last glacial-interglacial transition enhanced the thermal contrast between land and sea, with land masses heating up compared to the adjacent ocean surface. In North Africa, warmer land surfaces created a low-pressure zone, driving the northward penetration of monsoonal rains originating from the Atlantic Ocean. As a consequence, regions today among the driest of the world were covered by permanent and deep freshwater lakes, some of them being exceptionally large, such as the “Mega” Lake Chad, which covered some 400 000 square kilom

Abstract:
The use of energy in buildings is a complex problem, but it can be reduced and alleviated by making appropriate decisions. Therefore, architects face a major and responsible task of designing the built environment in such a way that its energy dependence will be reduced to a minimum, while at the same time being able to provide comfortable living conditions. Today, architects have many tools at their disposal, facilitating the design process and simultaneously ensuring proper assessment in the early stages of building design. The purpose of this book is to present ongoing research from the uni
