Die Frage nach der Bedeutung beziehungsweise der Möglichkeit von Humor in der Instrumentalmusik überhaupt betrifft das grundsätzliche Verständnis vom Funktionieren der Musik: Was kann Musik sagen, wie können ästhetische und philosophische Kategorien Thema der Musik sein? Bisherige Versuche, den Humorbegriff auf die Musik zu beziehen, gingen meist davon aus, dass die universellen Begriffe sich direkt mit konkreten musikalischen Sachverhalten verknüpfen lassen. Am Beispiel der "Humoreske" von Robert Schumann wird gezeigt, wie der Ablauf eines Werkganzen auch auf höherer Ebene mit einer ästhetischen Kategorie parallelisiert werden kann. Zwischen dem Werk, dem musikalischen Zeitbegriff und dem romantischen Humorbegriff werden so Vernetzungen sichtbar, die nicht nur die Bedeutung der "Humoreske" innerhalb von Schumanns frühem Klavierwerk neu beleuchten, sondern auch weitere Möglichkeiten für die Betrachtung anderer Werke und Werkgruppen aufzeigen können.

AbstractThis article examines Mahler’s Fourth Symphony and its role in what the composer called his ‘perfectly self-contained tetralogy’. Previous explanations for this phrase include the first four symphonies’ shared song quotations and ideological content, but the dramas of ancient Dionysian festivals present a better model: three serious tragedies and a comic satyr play, a performance grouping also known as a ‘tetralogy’. Following Mahler’s first three symphonies (his ‘Trilogie der Leidenschaft’), the Fourth Symphony – originally entitled ‘Humoreske’ – is compared to a light-hearted satyr play, featuring abrupt juxtapositions of moods and a setting of the humorous song ‘Das himmlische Leben’. Praise for the redemptive effects of this ancient tragicomic juxtaposition plays an important role in Nietzsche’s The Birth of Tragedy, and the importance of humour especially shaped the philosopher’s later writings, many of which Mahler knew from his time as a student in Vienna. This new reading not only provides a better explanation for Mahler’s comment, but also illustrates Nietzsche’s influence on the composer’s sense of drama.

Abstract:
How can absence make presence become? The question turns a usual notion of form inside out; it subverts normative habits in drawing distinctions. If we adapt the models of time by which we might consider such things (and not-things), the relational terms of form can shift. Two lines of inquiry are pursued in this article. The first is an investigation of form and its relation to time. The second is an exploration of paradox in describing forms of art. Both are cybernetic in their framework and approach. The ‘Hastig’ (‘Hastily’) movement of Robert Schumann’s 1839 piano work Humoreske is the form that serves as site for the two inquiries to intertwine. Its construction presents a paradox through which form and time may be called into question. In considering Schumann’s composition as a re-conceiving of form and time, an idea emerges; art can make us aware of the constraints and possibilities of our models and our experiences of paradox in living with them.

Abstract:
Denna uppsats behandlar Robert Schumanns Humoreske op. 20 och ställer upp ett förslag till tolkning utgående från kompositörens liv och psyke. Syftet med arbetet har varit att skaffa en stabil kunskapsbas att utgå från då jag tolkar stycket och på så vis göra interpretationen så övertygande som möjligt. Uppsatsen inleds med en redogörelse av kompositörens liv fram till åren han skrev verket. Därpå följande rubrik innehåller en beskrivning av de metoder som använts för att uppnå önskat resultat. Därefter följer en formanalys och kronologisk genomgång av verket som ställer fram ett förslag till tolkning och slutet av uppsatsen består av en diskussion över nyttan av bakgrundskunskap om kompositören vid instudering av ett verk. Jag anser mig ha hittat möjliga samband mellan Schumanns livssituation och hans musik, vilket man kan ha nytta av inte bara vid instuderingen av Humoreske op. 20 utan även då man tar sig an andra verk av samma kompositör.

Esta dissertação se dedica a estudar qual o lugar dos humores no pensamento republicano de Nicolau Maquiavel. Entendendo por humores os grupos de cidadãos que constituem o corpo político grandes/nobres e povo , bem como os desejos e apetites próprios de cada um destes dois grupos, este estudo pretende mostrar como o autor florentino elabora seu pensamento republicano a partir dos conflitos civis, que é efeito da relação entre eles. Partimos da investigação do significado do termo humor na medicina antiga e renascentista, para tentar compreender a apropriação que Maquiavel faz para pensar a dinâmica entre os grupos políticos da cidade. Em seguida, dedica-se a compreender como o florentino elabora o modelo romano, isto é, como justifica a grandiosidade da tumultuosa república, sobretudo a partir dos desejos e apetites dos grupos políticos e das instituições que se originam dos conflitos entre eles. Por último, a análise da decadência romana apresenta a razão do funcionamento deturpado das instituições e o uso de vias extraordinárias para a resolução de conflitos por parte dos grupos políticos. Observa-se que Maquiavel apresenta, a partir da análise da corrupção, as condições necessárias para a fundação de uma república, bem como os efeitos da ambição por bens e do excesso do desejo popular por liberdade que podem, também, provocar a irrupção do processo de corrupção. Logo, este trabalho tenta pensar o modelo republicano de Maquiavel a partir da chave humoral, o que acaba colocando em destaque tanto a relação entre seus grupos internos, como as paixões que os movem.
This dissertation is dedicated to studying what is the place of the humours in Nicolo Machiavelils republican thought. Understanding by humours citizen groups which constitute the political body grandi/nobles and the people , as well as their own desires and appetites, this study aims to show how the Florentine author elaborates his republican thought from the civic conflicts. We start from the investigation of the term humours in Renaissances and ancient medicine to better comprehend Machiavellis appropriation of it to analyze the dynamics between the citys political groups. From then on the idea is to perceive how our Florentine builds up the Roman model, that is, how does he justify the grandeur of the tumultuous republic, especially accounting for the political groups desires and appetites and the institutions which follow from their conflicts. Finally, a study about Roman decadence offers the reasons for the perverted functioning of its institutions and the resulting use of extraordinary ways for conflict resolution. Machiavellis analysis of the corruption shows what conditions are necessary for the foundation of a republic, as well as the effects of property ambition and the popular desire for freedom both can start a corruptive process. Thus, this work offers a reflection on the Machiavellian republic model through its humours, highlighting the relationship between its internal groups and the passions driving each of them.

Nicolau Maquiavel foi um grande observador das ações políticas dos homens de seu tempo. Tanto quanto Secretário da República Florentina e, posteriormente em seu exílio, como um analista atento ao que ocorria na Europa pôde formular teses sobre o agir político e o comportamento do corpo social das comunidades políticas. De seus estudos emergiram ideias que possibilitaram o desdobramento do pensamento político precedente, mas o pensamento de Maquiavel promoveu inovações que marcariam a passagem do pensamento medieval para o moderno. Exemplo disso é a Teoria dos humores objeto deste estudo que defende a ocorrência de tumultos como um mal necessário para a conquista da liberdade. O instrumento necessário para que isso ocorra é a existência de boas leis, que regulem os conflitos sociais para que esses não desviem dos interesses coletivos. É na obra Discursos sobre a primeira década de Tito Lívio, especialmente no Livro I, que Nicolau Maquiavel analisou a temática dos Humores; sendo assim nosso estudo se deterá com mais atenção a essa obra.
Niccolò Machiavelli was a keen observer of the political actions of this time. As far as secretary of the Florentine Republic and later in exile, an attentive watcher to the situation in Europe was able to formulate theories on the political behavior and the social organization of political communities. Ideas emerged from his studies that enabled the deployment of the former political thought, but the Machiavellis thoughts promoted innovations that mark the passage from medieval to modern thought. An example of it is the Humor Theory object of this study which defends the occurrence of disorder as a necessary evil for the liberty conquest. The required instrument for this is the existence of good laws, which regulate social conflicts so that they do not deviate from the collective interests. It is in the book Discorsi sopra la prima deca di Tito Lívio by Tito Lívio, especially in Book I, Niccolò Machiavelli analysed the template of humors; so our will be engaged more thoughfully to this work.

La vita politica e gli elementi che la costituiscono sono sempre stati e restano ancora oggi oggetti di studio della filosofia politica. Le discussioni su come gli uomini devono strutturarsi politicamente, nel miglior modo possibile, hanno permeato tutti i periodi della storia della filosofia, in particolar modo nei pensieri politici di vari autori, e casi non rari sotto molti punti di vista contrastanti. In questo lavoro, si propone di discutere i testi di Machiavelli riguardanti gli elementi strutturanti della vita politica, sottolineando il tipo di rapporto che può esistere tra dissensi di umori e libertà repubblicana. Basandosi su questa analisi, si discute l'originalità dell'autore sul tema e anche le condizioni che, secondo lui, fanno con cui i conflitti siano convergenti con la libertà, così come quelli che li rendono dannosi alla vita libera.
A vida política e os elementos que a constituem sempre foram e continuam sendo objetos de estudo da filosofia política. As discussões em torno de como os homens devem se estruturar politicamente, da melhor maneira possível, têm perpassado todos os períodos da história da filosofia, destacando-se nos pensamentos políticos de diversos autores, e em não raros casos, sob perspectivas bastante divergentes. Neste trabalho, propomos discutir os textos de Maquiavel no que concerne aos elementos estruturantes da vida política, dando ênfase ao tipo de relação que pode haver entre as dissensões dos humores e a liberdade republicana. Com base nessa análise, discutiremos a originalidade do autor acerca deste assunto e, igualmente, as condições que, segundo ele, tornam os conflitos convergentes com a liberdade, assim como aquelas que os tornam nocivos à vida livre.

Resumo: O objetivo central deste trabalho foi analisar a variação da capacidade antioxidante total, conferida por antioxidantes de baixo peso molecular (ABPM) em fluidos biológicos e tecidos, através do uso da voltametria de pulso diferencial (VPO). O capítulo 1 corresponde a um artigo de revisão sobre as possíveis fontes de geração de espécies reativas de oxigênio no músculo esquelético durante o exercício físico. O capítulo 2 é um artigo de divulgação, cujo objetivo é fornecer subsídios para a análise da capacidade antioxidante total de amostras biológicas conferida por ABPM para acompanhar a modulação do sistema de defesa antioxidante em função do treinamento físico. Para tanto, são discutidos o uso da voltametria cíclica e a possibilidade do uso de outras técnicas voltamétricas, como a VPO. O artigo contido no capítulo 3 apresenta dados da concentração de ABPM no plasma e na saliva de atletas submetidos a um período de treinamento físico. Observou-se, nesse estudo, uma diminuição da capacidade antioxidante total do plasma após 6 semanas de treinamento (879.28 :t 197.92 j..Imol Trolox equiv. L-1 na segunda semana versus 787.82 :t 154.71 j..Imol Trolox equiv. L-1 na sétima semana). Essa diminuição foi associada a um aumento no desempenho em testes físicos específicos e à manutenção das concentrações de marcadores de lesão muscular e de processo inflamatório, sugerindo que uma diminuição na capacidade antioxidante plasmática faz parte do estágio inicial de adaptação ao treino. As capacidades antioxidante da saliva e do plasma apresentaram correlação entre si (r=O.5871, pAbstract: The objective of this study was to analyze the changes in total antioxidant capacity conferred by low molecular weight antioxidants (LMWA) in biological fluids and tissues by the use of differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Chapter 1 is a review article about the possible fonts of reactive oxygen species generation in skeletal muscle during exerci se. Chapter 2 is a divulgation article that deals with antioxidant defense systems, LMWA detection methods, cyclic voltametry and DPV. The paper in chapter 3 presents the results about LMWA concentration in plasma and saliva of athletes submitted to physical training. It was observed a decrease in plasma total antioxidant capacity after 6 weeks of training (879.28 :t 197.92 !-Imol Trolox equiv. L-1 in second week versus 787.82:t 154.71 !-Imol Trolox equiv. L-1 in seventh week) associated to an enhanced physical performance in specific tests and maintained indices of muscle damage and inflammation. The data suggests that a small decrease in the plasma antioxidant capacity is part of a normal answer in the initial stages of a physical training programo It was also shown in this study a significant correlation between plasma and saliva antioxidant capacity (r=0.5871, p<0.01) and a significant correlation between this samples antioxidant capacity and their respective urate concentrations. In chapter 4 the kinetics of liver and skeletal muscle hydrophilic and lipophilic LMWA and enzymatic antioxidants from rats submitted to exhaustive exerci se preceded by 24h of fasting, are shown. Liver and muscle hydrophilic extractions and liver lipophilic extraction presented two classes of LMWA while muscle lipophilic extraction presented only one class. It was observed a significant decrease in the antioxidant capacity conferred by hydrophilic and lipophilic LMWA and enzymatic antioxidants in ali analyzed moments (30 min, 1, 6 e 24 h). Only one class of muscle hydrophilic LMWA showed to be reestablished 24h after exerci se. Liver lipophilic first and second classes of LMWA were increased in 57% and 42% respectively after fasting. Enzymatic antioxidants activities were also reduced during the whole analyzed period, presenting a strong correlation with the antioxidant capacity conferred by LMWA. These is the first report of the use of differential pulse voltammetry for total antioxidant capacity determination conferred by LMWA of biological fluids as plasma and saliva and tissues like liver and skeletal muscle

Abstract:
Neste trabalho, pretendemos olhar para o texto literário como exemplificação de um Código Alimentar que aparece claramente marcado pela História da Medicina do século XII. Neste contexto, ao ser dado relevo ao discurso médico num ~ literário da mesma época, o escritor medieval é colocado perante um saber enciclopédico que reflecte a presença de outras ciências no seu trabalho literário. A primeira parte do estudo, dedicada à História da Medicina, proporciona uma série de noções que permitem entender melhor como é que esta ciência cresceu durante o renascimento intelectual do século XII. A segunda parte, centrada no estudo do Código Alimentar, visita aspectos da cultura medieval e sugere algumas das noções básicas da História da Alimentação. A terceira e última parte do trabalho, centrada na análise do texto literário, procura identificar sinais de um Código Alimentar e de uma Medicina que influenciaram a Literatura do século MI. Os romances antigos, os romances de Chrétien de Troyes e de Gautier XALras foram dissecados, para depois avaliarmos quais os elementos mais significativos para as temáticas estudadas. / ABSTRACT: The aim of this work is to consider the literary text as an example of a food code that appears clearly marked by the History of Medicine in the 12th century. In this context, due to the relevance given to the scientific discourse in a literary corpus of the same period, the medieval writer faces an encyclopaedic knowledge that reflects the presence of different sciences in his literary work The first part of this study, dedicated to the History of Medicine, offers a series of notions that enable a better understanding of the development of this science during the intellectual rebirth of the 12~ century. The second part, focused on the study of the food code, visits aspects of the medieval culture and suggests some of the basic notions of the History of Food. The third and final part of the work, centred in the analysis of the literary text, seeks to identify signs of a food code. We have dismembered and dissected the old romances, the romances of Chrétien de Troyes and Gautier d'Arras and, subsequently, we have assessed the most significant elements for the studied themes.

O presente trabalho, sob o referencial da Teoria da Regulação Pessoal e Social da Conduta Delituosa, ocupou-se da compreensão da adaptação pessoal de um grupo de adolescentes judiciarizados (GJ) em comparação a um grupo de adolescentes não-judiciarizados (GNJ). Sessenta adolescentes do sexo masculino, com idades entre 16 e 18 anos, participaram da pesquisa, 30 constituindo o GJ e 30 constituindo o GNJ. A coleta de dados foi feita com três instrumentos: Invetário de Personalidade de Eysenck, (IPE), Inventário de Personalidade de Jesness (IPJ) e Inventário de Depressão de Beck (BDI). Os resultados indicaram diferenças de adaptação pessoal entre os grupos na medida em que o GJ e o GNJ tiveram médias significativamente diferentes em muitas das dimensões dos instrumentos utilizados (Propensão à Delinqüência, Neuroticismo e Psicotismo do IPE; DS, OV, Im, Au, Al, AM e IA do IPJ e; Tristeza, Insatisfação, Punição, Auto-aversão, Choro, Perda de Apetite e Escore Total do BDI). As diferenças entre os grupos revelaram que a adaptação pessoal do GJ é deficitária, denotando um desenvolvimento de personalidade mais egocêntrico (em oposição a um desenvolvimento alocêntrico da personalidade), em comparação ao GNJ. Os resultados obtidos através dos três instrumentos foram discutidos à luz dos resultados publicados pela literatura científica sobre o tema. Teceram-se algumas considerações finais acerca das contribuições trazidas por este estudo, bem como acerca de suas limitações.
This study was conducted under the basis of the Offensive Behavior Personal and Social Regulation Theory. It aimed to understand the personal adaptation of a group of adjudicated adolescents (AG) in comparison to a group of non- adjudicated ones (NAG). Sixty male adolescents with ages between 16 and 18 years participated of the research (30 composing AG and 30 composing NAG). The data collection was made with three instruments: Eysenck Personality Inventory, (EPI), Jesness Personality Inventory (JPI) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). The results indicated that the groups differentiated on personal adaptation as AG and NAG had significantly different averages in many of the dimensions of the instruments (Propensity to the Deliquency, Neuroticism and Psicoticism of the IPE; SM, VO, Im, Au, Al, MA and AI of the IPJ and Sadness, Dissatisfaction, Punishment, Self-aversion, Tears, Appetite loss and Total score of the BDI). The inter-group differences showed that the AG personal adaptation is low, denoting a more self-centered personality development (the opposite of a personality alocentric development), in comparison to the NAG. The results from the three instruments were discussed in a comparison with the published results from scientific literature on the subject. Some final considerations regarding the contributions brought by this study, as well as some considerations regarding its limitations was carried out.

Our daily life is usually full of contradiction, opposition, agonizing, compromising, and even ridiculous events under the overlapping of simultaneous multiple tempos and rhythms. Tempos in our daily lives may seem so natural and omnipresent. Their repetitious cycling can be seen as water dimpling and gradually fading away. It is the stable repetitions of these tempos that make our lives sensible and meaningful in the world. Playing a drum set involves beating a group of percussion instruments with various strength, speeds and intensities. From these personal experiences, I was able to feel and realize the connection between body movement, rhythms and changing of tempos. The experience of drumming is made parallel to my observation in riding R23 bus, running between beach in Tansui and MRT 紅樹林station, on the way to my band studio. The bus route is seen as tracks for three different transportations including buses, bicycles and motorcycles. It can be interpreted as a metaphor of drum playing. The drum beatings initiate the movement of musical notes leading variations on the intensity of tempos; and by the juncture of other instruments the melody can be expressed. Tempos in daily lives are affected by complex culture and social factors, and involve multi-facet repeating cycles in terms of years, seasons, months, weeks, hours, minutes, and seconds. The temporal unit for repetition may vary among different events. There are religious ceremonies and political campaigns that are held by the years, pigeon racing by the seasons and the month, my band rehearsing and lotteries by the week, and so on. There are also tempos in terms of hour time of the day, such as office hours, minute time for bus schedules, and seconds for traffic lights. Based on these thoughts, six sites for events with multi-tempos are designed to represent ensembles of Tansui daily life signifying humorous and cynical aspects of the edge town environment. By emphasizing and manipulation of overlapping and sometimes contradicting tempos, a humoresque, and refreshing theme is then developed to generate new impression, programs, and activities for the edge town area. This thesis not only tries to provide a different way of city reading but also implies space programming, and experiment on new possibility for combinations of building elements in different spaces according to tempos.

Abstract Among the earliest autograph materials for the Fourth Symphony is the plan of movements that Mahler made for a Fourth Symphony with the subtitle ‘Symphonie Humoreske’. Such a plan would serve as a point of departure when he actually began to work on the music. Mahler himself confirmed this as his initial conception of the work when he later admitted to Bauer-Lechner that he ‘only wanted to write a symphonic Humoresque [eine .rymphonische Humoreske]’.2 This early plan is for a six-movement work with programmatic titles for each movement, and this conception bears a subtle relationship to the completed Fourth Symphony. Mahler eventually abandoned this plan for the Fourth Symphony as a ‘Symphonie Humoreske’, but some of its elements were part of his early thoughts on this new composition.
