Abstract:
Poisson models are widely used for statistical inference on count data. However, zero-inflation or zero-deflation with either overdispersion or underdispersion could occur. Currently, there is no available model for count data, that allows excessive occurrence of zeros along with underdispersion in non-zero counts, even though there have been reported necessity of such models. Furthermore, given an excessive zero rate, we need a model that allows a larger degree of overdispersion than existing models. In this paper, we use a random-effect model to produce a general statistical model for accomm

SummaryAmong those who present to the emergency department for self-harm, many will repeat. Self-harm repetition is an outcome of interest in both observational and intervention studies. However, few such studies analyse the number of repeat self-harm presentations. Here, hurdle models are introduced as a potentially useful statistical method for these analyses. Emergency department data from the Province of Ontario, Canada, are used to illustrate an example of implementing hurdle models and interpreting their results.

Yet, practitioners may lean toward multiple-hurdle models, because administering an entire predictor battery to every applicant can be time-consuming, labor-intensive, and costly. Using Monte Carlo simulation, we considered some specific cases to illustrate, in terms of selection utility and the cost-reliability tradeoff between compensatory and multiple-hurdle selection models. According to the 2003 National Household Survey, mean labour income for an indigenous worker is only 56% of that for a non-indigenous worker. Studies of ethnic discrimination in Peru’s labour markets generally find that discrimination is too low to explain inequalities of this magnitude. However, Sigma Theory (Figueroa 2003) predicts that social exclusion is a source of inter-ethnic inequality, and that has not been empirically tested. The primary aim of this paper is to fill this gap by estimating the extent to which exclusion and discrimination contribute to income inequality. Hurdle models

Abstract:
When it comes to conservation, fungi are often overlooked. This module provides an introduction to fungi, explains their importance, and takes a look at their conservation. Fungi are a highly diverse group of organisms, though still not well understood. The various types of fungi have value for many reasons including as goods, for services and for essential ecological interactions. Like other organisms, fungi face common threats, e.g., climate change and habitat fragmentation, but face different conservation challenges due to scientific, informational and public concern hurdles.

The Swiss labour market will shrink without immigration. But even with high immigrationnfigures, it will not be possible to maintain the previous growth of the labour market. Employers need to adapt to this situation. This study compiles and arranges different measures for dealing with the labour shortage, with the aim of showing different approaches to deal with the situation. The measures are arranged following the formula: Number of person-hours x efficiency = output The increase in the number of person-hours includes, on the one hand, measures to make employers more attractive. Abstract:
The Smart Energy Design Assistance Center assessed the administrative, technical, and economic aspects of feasibility related to the procurement and installation of photovoltaic solar systems on IDOT-owned buildings and lands. To address administrative feasibility, we explored three main ways in which IDOT could procure solar projects: power purchase agreement (PPA), direct purchase, and land lease development. Of the three methods, PPA and direct purchase are most applicable for IDOT. While solar development is not free of obstacles for IDOT, it is administratively feasible, and regulatory hu

Polymer flooding is one of the most promising EOR methods (Smalley et al. 2018). It is well known and has been used successfully (Pye 1964; Standnes & Skjevrak 2014; Sheng et al. 2015). From a technical perspective we recommend that polymer flooding should be considered as a viable EOR method on the Norwegian Continental Shelf for the following reasons: 1. More oil can be produced with less water injected; this is particularly important for the NCS which are currently producing more water than oil 2. Polymers will increase the aerial sweep and improve the ultimate recovery, provided a prop
