Abstract:
Sustainable food systems have the potential to protect humans and planet health. Green public procurement (GPP) is a tool for the sustainable transformation. In Poland, the share of GPP is extremely low. As part of the StratKIT project, a survey-based research study was carried out in the city of Rybnik (Silesia Region). The aim of this paper is to diagnose the level of awareness in the field of sustainable development of the project stakeholders, and to propose further sustainable actions related to GPP in Poland. The survey was conducted in social care homes and two primary schools. Statisti

The subject of this work is the assemblage of anhydrous sulfate minerals formed on burning coal-heaps. Three burning heaps located in the Upper Silesian coal basin in Czerwionka-Leszczyny, Radlin and Rydułtowy near Rybnik were selected for the research. The occurrence of godovikovite, millosevichite, steklite and an unnamed MgSO4, sometimes accompanied by subordinate admixtures of mikasaite, sabieite, efremovite, langbeinite and aphthitalite has been recorded from these locations. Occasionally they form monomineral aggregates, but usually occur as mixtures practically impossible to separate. T

Tree-ring analysis was used to investigate the impact of air pollution on forest stands in the southern part of the Upper Silesia region of southern Poland. Four about 120 years old Scots pine stands located near Wodzisław Śląski and Rybnik were selected for study and 20 increment core samples from each stand were taken. All study stands were selected based upon their considerable exposure to air and dust pollution. The results of dendrochronological analysis showed strong and significant reductions in tree ring growth especially during the period from 1960 to 1990. Emanuel Pietyra's Memoir of a Terrible War and Experience of 1945 is a record of the events that took place in the first months of 1945 in the areas of Zarzecze, Podlesie and Kostuchna. These areas have been part of Katowice since 1975. Their inhabitants, faced with the Red Army troops advancing into Upper Silesia, experienced many traumatic experiences. In 1945, the Soviets carried out arrests, thefts, arson and rape throughout the region. They behaved similarly in Zarzecze, Podlesie and Kostuchna. In this study, the contents of selected heavy metals (Zn, Cu, Cd, Pb, Cr, and Ni) and macroelements (C, N, K, P, S, Mg, Na, and Ca) were measured in wild mushrooms growing in a heavily polluted forest ecosystem in the northeastern part of the Upper Silesian Industrial Region. The research was conducted on 10 species of mushrooms belonging to three families: Boletaceae, Russulaceae, and Suillaceae. Using a spatial autoregressive model, the study showed a strong relationship between heavy metal concentrations (especially Zn, Pb, and Cd) and the distance from a source of industrial pollution (a z

This paper deals with the relationship between the clustering potential and the actually created cluster structures in Poland. The authors compared the level of concentration of entities representing creative industries, expressed as the Location Quotient (LQ), with the locations of the creative clusters actually existing in Poland. The questions to which answers were sought were: (1) what is the geographical distribution of clustering potential where creative industries are concerned? (2) which gminas (units of local-government administration) are home to the entities forming the creative clu

Titanite, an accessory mineral of pegmatite related to aplogranite, was identified in the Szklarska Poręba Huta quarry within the Karkonosze granite massif in Lower Silesia, Poland. It formed during pegmatitic to hydrothermal stages. Besides the isovalent substitution Sn → Ti, the chemical composition of the mineral is characterized by three coupled substitutions: (1) (Al, Fe, Sc)3+ + (OH, F)- → YTi + ZO, (2) XREE3+ + Y(Al, Fe, Sc)3+ →X)Ca2+ + YTi4+, and (3) (Al, Fe, Sc)3+ + (Nb, Ta)5+ → 2YTi. These substitutions are strongly dependent on the composition of the magma in terms of its Al2O3/TiO2

AbstractThe main objective of this study was to determine the content, mobility, and the variability of concentration of zinc, lead, and cadmium in soils from the Gorce Mountains (south Poland), located over 100 km south-east from the potential industrial sources of contamination—zinc-lead sulfide ore mine and smelter in Bukowno, as well as hard coal mines of Silesia region and Kraków Nowa-Huta steelwork. The abovementioned problem is crucial in the context of the traditional mountain farming still extant in the region, as well as intensively developing tourism. The geoaccumulation index and p
