Abstract:
Aim: Hyalinizing Trabecular Tumor (HTT) of the thyroid gland is an unusual and rare follicular derived neoplasm, which was first described from Carney and colleagues in 1987. We aim to present two cases of HTT diagnosed as papillary thyroid carcinomas in preoperative FNA cytological findings, although the postoperative histological examinations revealed the presence of Hyalinizing Trabecular tumors. Moreover, a short review regarding the diagnostic and clinical aspects of this rare thyroid tumor is also presented. Cases Presentation: A 30 year old and a 33 yea

A 34-year-old woman with a 4-year history of a slowly enlarging thyroid gland underwent a total thyroidectomy. Histologic sections showed multinodular colloid goiter. In addition, a 1.2 centimeter diameter discrete mass with a solid white cut surface was noted within the left lobe. Sections from the left lobe mass show a well-demarcated tumor whose cells are arranged in trabecular and nested growth patterns. (Figure 1) The cells are polygonal to spindly and have ample eosinophilic, slightly granular cytoplasm and oval to angular nuclei that are often grooved. (Figure 2) Hyaline material

Hyalinizing trabecular adenoma is a follicular-derived tumor of the thyroid gland with a strong predilection for women. In the reported cases, the biologic course has been benign and without recurrences. The most important histologic differential diagnosis is medullary carcinoma, particularly the encapsulated form of that neoplasm.

Hyalinizing Trabecular Tumour of the Thyroid (HTT) is a rare type of tumor that affects the thyroid gland. It was first discovered by Carney in 1987. This tumor is of follicular origin and has unique nuclear, architectural, and immunohistochemical features that differentiate it from other well-known thyroid abnormalities, such as Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma (PTC) and Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC). Although initially thought to be a subtype of PTC, several later reports showed that HTT is an independent entity. The incident rate of HTT ranges between 0.44% and 1.3%. This case report present

Abstract Context.—Cytoplasmic yellow bodies are a common and frequent histologic finding in hyalinizing trabecular adenoma of the thyroid gland, a morphologically distinctive neoplasm, and are visible in fine-needle aspiration biopsy of the tumor. Objective.—To determine the prevalence and frequency of cytoplasmic yellow bodies in common thyroid tumors. Design.—Microscopic slides of random cases of papillary carcinoma (61 cases), follicular adenoma (27 cases), and Hürthle cell adenoma (12 cases) were searched for cytoplasmic yellow bodies. Setting and Patients.—Slides were from patients who ha

Objectives: The hyalinizing trabecular tumor (HTT) is a rare benign neoplasm of the thyroid gland. This neoplasm has overlapping cytological features with Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma, Medullary Carcinoma and Follicular Neoplasm with Nuclear Features of Papillary Carcinoma. This can lead to misdiagnosis of malignancy in fine needle aspiration (FNA) cytology specimens with unnecessary total thyroidectomy. The aim of this study is to determine if there are some cytological features that could help us to suspect HTT on FNA specimens and avoid radical surgery. Material and Methods: With this purpos
